    Large one off house with PV but no smart meter yet. So yes, the car was plugged into his zappi the second I arrived, with the type 2 to type 1 adapter I had bought new for the buyer on Amazon and had brought with me (had tested it at my home first to see it was working ok)

    Having done a number of scenic drives as well as a fair bit of motorway driving over the past few days I can definitely say a relaxed scenic drive is a much better experience

    It's rare you can chill out while driving and enjoy the experience without the hustle of trying to get to wherever as fast as possible

    Motorways are functional, they get you from A to B, but fun they aren't. Even if you aren't in a hurry they can be a bit stressful when drivers around you are in a rush

    I've no problem driving hundreds of kilometres on motorway with the Travel Assist on, but I'm not going to pretend it's much fun. At least it's somewhere to catch up on podcasts

    Actually to give one example, we took the car up the scenic drive at Great Orme in Llandudno, Wales yesterday

    Just did it on a whim, we'd visited the town and spotted the sign for the scenic drive so we went for it

    The drive is along a cliff road above the Irish sea. It's a slow one way system so there's no real reason to feel rushed, plus plenty of places to pull in to admire the view

    There's a road up to the summit which includes multiple steep inclines. The ID.4 handled it all like a champ, no messing around with revving and clutch control

    Afterwards we went back to the A55 across north Wales and I was miserable, no fun to be had, just dodging aggro English **** trying to get home to see what football match they'd lost now

    I think once you're off the motorway and on A or smaller roads EV drivers might find they get much better range due to slower speeds and the roads being less open to the wind.

    Sometimes it makes little difference to journey times as the A or smaller roads is more direct than the motorway and less tailbacks.

    Honestly I think I've slowed down to conserve battery a total of 3 times in 6 years, and two of those were in the Leaf

    I would agree that it does lower the energy usage a lot, but I'd view it as a bonus for taking the scenic route, not an incentive to go slow

    I just got bored with the motorways especially in the UK and the traffic. Scenic route was much nicer way to travel. Then when got the EV noticed the difference in economy.

    True, did the M6 past Birmingham a couple of years ago which was doing a great impression of a car park

    Ended up taking a detour to save time. The twisty roads are a bit easier in an EV I'd say, no gear changes and the weight is down low keeping you planted on the road

    Potentially silly question, but what's the story with older Model S having CCS sockets?

    I was charging at Flint Mountain in Wales earlier and there was a pre facelift Model S beside me not plugged in. Noticed the superchargers only had CCS, I thought they have both CCS and Tesla/NACS here because the older cars didn't have CCS

    I noticed a few minutes later they'd plugged in so I'm guessing the car had CCS or an adaptor of some description

    They have a CCS adaptor. Can pull about 135kw.

    And not only that, my old Model S could charge at every single fast chargers in the country:

    22kW from a 22kW / 43kW AC charger

    45kW from CHAdeMO (with €99 adapter bought from Tesla)

    135kW from CCS (after CCS upgrade from Tesla costing €291)

    135kW from any Tesla Supercharger

    My current Model S is the same except only 11kW on AC

    The Tesla's here never had the NACS connector. They used a modified version of the type 2 to do the super charging,

    And as others said there was a CCS upgrade available for them internally, and also an physical adapter to allow the CCS to plug in

    Bit of a side topic but I checked out a new Osprey charging location along the A55 yesterday because for some reason I didn't want to go to Flint Mountain

    Osprey must have been getting desperate for locations because they put a dozen 300kW Kempower units behind a proper greasy spoon truck stop diner called Billy Jean's Cafe.

    The car park isn't even tarmaced, no lights or bathrooms or any of that modern garbage 😂

    I wouldn't have minded checking out the diner but unfortunately it closes at 2pm. Hopefully it opens for longer on the back of more cars stopping to charge

    82p/kWh as well, you could fund a decent drugs habit for that money. Needless to say I decided to use the superchargers today for some more convenience

    A CCS socket is too large for the Model S charge flap location

    Any Model S/X older than 2022 will need to use this adaptor in order to charge at V3 Supercharger sites (Enfield, Cork, Athenry, Sandyford, Belfast)

    Yep, tidied it up, local bike shop did the tyres and brakes. I then bypassed all the original electronics, refurbished the original motor, then installed a modern 36V system with a lithium ion battery and handlebar throttle. All running fine and driving but needed more mechanical work, which is neither my forte nor my interest, so I sold it on

    Second hand EQE 300's start from 58k on DD. What kind of 2nd hand value would boardsies expect a 2022 or 2023 to retail for this time next year?

    Looking at Brady's mercedes in Dublin they refer to VAG financing. Any idea what APR one would be looking at here. Details are sparse on the website. If they dropped to 50k then I could in theory only need to finance 30k (HP) but going through with the deal would very much depend on the cost of finance.

    Tesla, vw and Hyundai are very transparent when it comes to financing but jesus mercedes are a disaster.

    How do EV batteries fare when idle/used for short journeys a lot. When I say idle I mean parked for a few days and then maybe driving 30 km. Then idle for a few days again.

    The EQE is never going to be in big demand. They had to cut the prices big time earlier this year. I can see it bring discontinued soon.

    That said, I kinda like them.

    I expect some bargains out of them in the used market next year or so.

    That would work out at around 5000km per year? As long as it's not sitting above 80% charge for those days you'll be grand. But your EV fuel savings will be low with that mileage.

    €50K in 2025 for a used base model EQE sounds realistic. It will depend on availability more than anything. They didn’t sell well hence expect that there won’t be a lot of them for sale at 3 years old. Owners that bought the heavily discounted stock recently are unlikely to be moving them on anytime soon. Some demo 2023 and pre registered 2024 cars are still sitting on Merc forecourts if you you’re a cash buyer and fancy a haggle now.

    I agree it's an awful location. Drove in and straight out again last Wednesday due to the lack of services. Ended up stopping at Chester services (Gridserve) who have 12 x 350kW. £0.50kWh for the summer if you use their app.

    Johnstown House (Tesla) is a good option, but be aware that you will end up paying the toll charge twice if you are stopping for food. Kinnegad Plaza is a good option for charging as there are multiple units. Avoid Applegreen Enfield (both directions) - single charger at both locations and you may not want to queue.

    I was actually going the other direction so Chester was in the wrong location

    If they opened the cafe for longer and did up the car park and signage it'd probably be grand

    I suppose it's a good sign if CPOs are fighting for locations even along what would be considered fairly minor roads in the UK

    We're probably still a ways off from that here, motorways aren't saturated with chargers yet

    As others said just don't leave it above around 80% for days and you'll be fine.

    Range can suffer when doing a lot of short hops in winter because the car cools down and has to be warmed up every time.

    Doesn't really make a difference to battery life but it does mean the GOM range can end up being pessimistic

    No issue whatsoever. Less hassle than diesel in this instance as no filters, EGR, DPF etc

    Just don’t leave it sitting there at 100% for those few days.

    Not sure how you would do that - there are no human beings at the ramps back onto the motorway. I use an Eflow tag and it has never done it automatically for me.
