Even with the 4 shot lead the first hole that day was crucial as he was in trouble and very close to it being a 3 shot swing which could have changed things.

Tommy missed a makeable enough birdie putt and Shane holed a good putt for bogey. If that had gone the other way his 4 shot lead would have been 1 after just 1 hole.

I was there and it was a strange feeling that even though Tommy had cut the lead to 3 it was almost like a win psychologically for Shane. Shows you the fine margins in golf.

Lot of low scores already today. Conditions seem easy. Lowry will need a good round to keep in front.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,850 ✭✭✭CMcsporty

to keep in front he might only need an even par round.

    Rain is coming over.

To win he’ll probably need to shoot 3 under.

Sundays have not been a friend of Lowry recently

I was just thinking that. Has the Open ever teed off this late??

Shane is coping with the rain very well so far. Hope he continues to do so and maybe even extend his lead. Lots of lads under par today before the rain came.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,280 ✭✭✭techdiver

Should be further ahead. That's 2 putts for birdie just lacking a roll of pace.

Pity a couple of those didn't drop

    Giving himself decent chances

That's twice Lowry has left the ball just an inch short of going in for birdie. I hope they don't come back to haunt him. You could probably blame all the rain for stopping them short.

Ah #### sake Shane. You shouldn't be missing that. Another birdie goes a begging.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,280 ✭✭✭techdiver

    That's a terrible putt on 7.

He's starting to lose ground on the chasers. They reeling him in and whilst he's playing solid he's not capitalising.

Really needs to start making some of these chances.

He’s playing very well but the putts aren’t dropping. Starting to look over his shoulder now at the pack. Needs a few birdies on the back 9.

That did not look like a good swing by Shane off the tee on 8. He's followed Brown straight into that coffin bunker.

Chasers are closing and Shane is creaking, needs the wind to reemerge.

    Oh no

coffin to be the graveyard for Lowry's open bid?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,293 ✭✭✭✭sligeach

At least a bogey coming up for Shane, could easily be a double bogey. He should have had 3 more birdies that could have softened this upcoming blow.

    Next hole is huge

    Lowry putter gone cold

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,281 ✭✭✭big_drive

A balls but still leading this thing so needs to stay positive now.

The postage stamp is an unbelievable hole, tv doesn't do it justice. I couldn't believe how far below the tee the green is when you see it. It doesn't look as much on tv

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,293 ✭✭✭✭sligeach

Did I hear that right? That Lowry and Brown were the only 2 to end up in the coffin today. That couldn't be right. Though I don't remember seeing anyone else in there.

The putts are really frustrating, he's hitting them well and only missing by inches

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,293 ✭✭✭✭sligeach

Another birdie putt from Shane that ends less than a ball width away from going in on 9.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,281 ✭✭✭big_drive

Another miss by a fraction. Needs to keep the head now as hard as it probably is. Others are struggling too so keep it steady. Can still be leading into final round

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,431 ✭✭✭dublin49

am thinking -3 will be leading so anything under par will be in touch.Unless conditions improve.

Another dropped shot coming up most likely

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,850 ✭✭✭CMcsporty

he could end up in -3.

His chipping is not up to the elite standard and with a cold putter he’s not going to get back to -7.

Someone from the field will come in at -6 at least

As Beemer just mentioned, I think his biggest issue now is losing the cool. This thing is still well there to be won tomorrow. Great save for a bogey just there on 11, but F me, he wouldn't putt it into a medium sized bucket. If he gets it back to the house at -5 he's still in good shape.

Still think Scheffler is the real danger tomorrow though, followed by Schauffele.

He's struggling now....really needs to get it together or he could play himself out of it

  • Administrators Posts: 54,168 Admin ✭✭✭✭✭awec

that’s really bad. Hes in trouble here.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 52,599 ✭✭✭✭tayto lover

Back at -4 after being at -8. He needs to stop this and start making putts.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,280 ✭✭✭techdiver

Head is gone. Shocking bad round so far. Putter is dogshite today.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,783 ✭✭✭abff

    Ah feck it!

I’ve no time for that at all. And after yesterday’s rant…no wonder he’s blowing up now.

    Very disappointing

Just needs to stay calm now and try and hit good shots the rest of the round.

I'm concerned about the putter, a couple of short ones missed.

Is this starting to become a bit of a choke...feeling that way

Completely thrown this away with the putter.

Moving day in the wrong direction, unfortunately.

Still hanging in there, got unlucky today with the weather after getting away with it in first 2 rounds. Conditions look brutal

    Trying to force it now!

Just play percentages tomorrow is another day!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,836 ✭✭✭Trampas

Unlucky? They’re all out in it. His 4 shots worse than his playing partner who is playing his first major

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,280 ✭✭✭techdiver

The rest of the leaders have the same conditions but Shane's round is by far the worst of any of them today.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,171 ✭✭✭DellyBelly

    Another bogey incoming...

Made some huge mental errors today after missing the few putts when playing well early. Seemed to feel the need to chase it. Probably out of it now.
