Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Yeah absolutely agree on that part, I'm in a role that suits my own skills right now however and I'm bored as beans… Barely enough work to get through half a day, no COs so I can't build any kind of experience up for applying to HEO, etc. Lovely people here and very understanding but I'd love something busier and even a little bit of stress!

    Assessment is done online so should be no issue getting it done in the timeframe allocated.

    Interdepartmental competitions are always classed as promotion.

    I think it mentions it in the booklet. Something along the lines of an individual currently serving at the grade of EO or equivalent cannot apply for this role. This is due to the fact you would be eligible for open competitions and mobility.

    This is an example of this on a HEO comp. It is found under eligibility.

    “a) be serving in an established, unestablished or acting (see para 4.e) below) capacity in the
    Civil Service in a grade below that of Higher Executive Officer.”

    HEO has never been, and still isn't, a grade with open recruitment though so not really comparable.

    Incorrect. It has been open recruitment recently with various departments. One has been the data protection commission & the open HEO nationwide competition for an auditor.

    The one thing I would say though is, if you have lots of free time right now then use that time to do lots of EO level courses on One Learning. There are lots of Management courses that are open to you now that wouldn't have been when you were a CO so take the opportunity now before trying to move to a busier role.

    You can also say to your manager that you are interested in getting more diverse experience and as you aren't very busy to keep you in mind for any extra jobs that come up, that could work in your favour later. After you have finished probation as EO you can ask to move to a different team where you might have more work and/or direct reports but unless you hate your current manager/team then you might be better off staying where you are and finishing probation. I am pretty sure that the probation clock would start again if you moved to a new EO role but I may be wrong on that front.

      must satisfy all of the following requirements:
      a) Be serving in a permanent, temporary or acting capacity in the Civil Service in a grade below that of Executive Officer or equivalent. Officers serving in an acting capacity at Executive Officer or equivalent level whose substantive grade is below that of Executive Officer or
      equivalent are eligible to compete in this competition.

    I'll definitely give One Learning another look, I did everything it had as a CO honestly LOL.

    Your probation doesn't restart if you move to another EO role but my Department's HR said they can't consider internal move requests before 2 years in my current role unless the SecGen requests it so this competition seems a no brainer, my team is nice so I'm hoping to stay here until the start of February when probation is up but honestly I live payday to payday on EO wages and need the management experience so I can hopefully get up to HEO to be somewhat more comfortable financially.

    Hey im reckoning around the 8th and a guess is sova ive been doing lots of practice on job test .prep .uk and practice appitude test and really hoping to get it this time .

    Need to get out of my current role and also feel like its my time

    Surprised no internal movement option for two years in the same dept tbh. Are there different units in your division that might be busier? Should be easy enough to move units once you're staying in the same division, a few in mine have done it.

    Re courses, some recently came up on one learning that might be useful for capabilities for heo - couple of project management ones, presentation, etc. I've got a team of COs now but have had my heo sign off on those courses for extra heo level experiences

    I'd say 2nd or 3rd week of August, open for a week with results in Mid September then first interviews start of October with the first people starting before Christmas

    @Araic yeah there's the verbal reasoning, the numerical one and the situational one ( they give u a situation and u decide the best course of action. The numerical u have to pass but usually only the other 2 count for your score.

    any websites or online prep I can do for the tests? I entered the AO and EO back in 2022 and the situational and verbal reasoning was my weakspots so I want to be better prepared

    Best of luck all have applied for EO but them bloody tests get the better of me. I get a decent score but somehow never really get anywhere. A question I have is what's the difference between an EO and a Staff Officer (county council)? Thinking of applying for both

    When do people reckon you should hear back on this?

    Looking at the CO campaign, closing date was 8th and OOMs out in people's inboxes on the 19th - 9 working days

    Would it be similar? Closing date was the 16th.

    will have to do the tests before you get the oom, it was part to the CO application this year hence why it was so quick

    last year eo went slower than the co comp at almost every point, not too sure why. But I think the results were only about 2 weeks so should be similar!

    Can anyone recommend an EO competition prep course?

    CareerServices .IE came up after a Google but wondering if anyone has a personal recommendation?

    There was no EO nationwide competition last year, only Dublin.

    The last Nationwide EO competition was in 2022. Applications deadline was on 2nd June and stage 1 testing was online (notification went out on 29th June) and you had until 6th July to complete it. Stage 1 results issued on the 29th July. And then interviews started but very slow, some applicant's only completed interviews this month, almost 2 years later.

    So a rough timeframe of stage 1 testing above from 2022 competition.

    Also, the CO competition had a different process, you were given an OOM after application form submitted. So can't compare that timeframe.

    So am I right in thinking the next stage is verbal , numerical and situational reasoning then? I've posted a link earlier in the thread for some free aptitude tests but if anyone else has any suggestions please link in here.

    Yes correct. With your scores for verbal and situational used for your OOM. As regards practice, from memory I think they give u a few examples.

    It's on score of tests. Work experience education comes into interview and scoring after that.

    Just to let people know you can jump a lot in the interviews. I was 36 in the open stream after the tests last time and jumped up to no.7 in batch 1 after the interview.So don't lose hope if you don't score as good as you hope. For Timelines I was 7 open panel and started in January so 6 months after the testing roughly. Best of luck everyone.

    They don't look at it, need to pass the psychometric tests then in interview slight chance they might ask.

    Better waiting to see what company is over the tests, they use different ones. The internal a few weeks ago used AON , numerical and verbal 6 minutes each, 18 questions with negative marking and then situational judgement in the form of instant messages, no time frame.

    It also massively depends on the county you go for . They absolutely flew through the dublin panels last time, and I agree your OOM can really change at interview stage

    if it does change at eo, at co it didn’t change after interview your order of merit was based on the tests and the interview was a pass/fail with your your oom remaining the same
