He won't be challenging tomorrow. Pity. But he hasn't putted well at all today.

  • Registered Users Posts: 9,640 ✭✭✭TheCitizen

in the name of eff. Must be hanging around with McIlroy too much

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 52,600 ✭✭✭✭tayto lover

Fair play to Dan Brown who actually kept his head.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,171 ✭✭✭DellyBelly

You'd think Brown is the tour veteran in this group...thought he'd capitulate today not the other way round

  • Registered Users Posts: 9,640 ✭✭✭TheCitizen

Well if he stopped panicking he could finish within a couple of shots of the lead.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,749 ✭✭✭coillcam

Flat stick not cooperative today but some poor choices too. Definitely got rattled and struggled to steady the ship.

If he can conjure a birdie he's still got every chance. Hoping that the leaders bogey or par home at worst now.

Nice for a useless amateur like myself to see pros struggling in these conditions. Not that I'd break 100 out there. Mere mortals eh?

The last time he was seen hanging around with McIlroy he won his first PGA Tour tournament in years 🤷‍♂️

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 52,600 ✭✭✭✭tayto lover

Shane didn't conduct himself very well today with the giving out to people after he played a bad shot. Seems to have a bad temperament when under a little pressure. Not nice.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,117 ✭✭✭eggy81

seems to get wound up too easily when it goes against him

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,220 ✭✭✭riddles

went to the cinema to see twisters and he was -8 when I went and -3 when I came out - was he caught in a storm.

he has dropped 6 strokes from hitting the high of -8 eariler, yes he has been unlucky with a few birdies that have come up short but with the exception of rose is the only other player over par on front page of the leaderboard, rose has battled gamely though. it definitely feels like a bit of a choke if I'm been honest

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,757 ✭✭✭✭AdamD

Brown's gotten away with murder multiple times off the tee in fairness. On another day he has multiple double bogeys

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,452 ✭✭✭basillarkin

in the bunker on 17 now after hitting driver and taking his anger out on that club

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,171 ✭✭✭DellyBelly

Another poor shot on 17....Will do well to par it...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,437 ✭✭✭KaneToad

Another terrible shot and he's going mental in the tee box.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 52,600 ✭✭✭✭tayto lover

He's probably out of it now. You have to take the good with the bad in golf and not go into meltdown. Shane has let himself down today and not just with the bad golf.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,582 ✭✭✭NoviGlitzko

What is it with Irish golfers and imploding in majors? Hope he can par the last two.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,836 ✭✭✭Trampas

Showing his bad side in every way today. I’d be fearful of the locker room. Pure meltdown in every way

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,143 ✭✭✭RoyalCelt

Same got a text he was leading, went for dinner and I'm back at the Room now seeing he's imploded! If he can stay within 3/4 he'll have a chance tomorrow but this is bad.

I stopped watching after he missed yet another short putt on the 12th. It felt like death by a thousand cuts. I went for a walk and make the mistake of checking his score when I got back. Even worse than I feared. 🤯

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,265 ✭✭✭✭paulie21

    Finally holed a putt

  • Registered Users Posts: 9,640 ✭✭✭TheCitizen

That’s a great putt on 17. Get a 4 on the last and live to fight another day

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 52,600 ✭✭✭✭tayto lover

He's after taking out someone in the Village.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,452 ✭✭✭basillarkin

what is he at on the last

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 52,600 ✭✭✭✭tayto lover

He needs to get up and down now.

thats a terrible chip, will be 3 behind going into final round

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 807 ✭✭✭bobster453

Now he has them right where he wants them..in the headlights rather than the rear view mirror.Great strategy..roll on tomorrow😁

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,749 ✭✭✭Dr. Bre

that putt on 18 sums up Lowry day. He’s not out of it tho 3 behind

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,836 ✭✭✭Trampas

Might be an interesting interview coming up. Do they poke the bear

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,242 ✭✭✭TheRiverman

Only three shots behind after that collapse, there's hope for tomorrow.

2 early birdies and hes right back in it,hopefully out of spotlight he settles dowm and plays up to rounds 1 & 2.Think all the missed putts today allied to horrendous playing conditions eventually melted his head. His team need to work on him, ordinarily his play today would have played him out of contention but it didnt so hes lucky to have another chance .

  • Registered Users Posts: 9,640 ✭✭✭TheCitizen

lol. After all that 3 behind the leader starting the final round he would have taken that if offered it on Thursday. The only good thing was his meltdown round happened on the 3rd round so a chance to redeem himself tomorrow

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,813 ✭✭✭CMOTDibbler

I think one of his biggest problems was the pace of the greens. They slowed up so much with the rain, he just didn't seem able to hit them as hard as he needed to. He wasn't the only one, lots of them seemed to struggle with the speed.

The other stuff was all him. Lost the head and tried to make up the deficit with predictable results.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,431 ✭✭✭dublin49

I did say yesterday he doesnt generally put 4 good rounds together,if he starts well tomorrow the crowd will be behind him and he might rebound.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,836 ✭✭✭Trampas

    Out with Scott tomorrow.
someone will need to give him a kick up the backside and tell him to do whatever he needs to do to get whatever is in his system out so he can move on. If not he hasn’t a hope tomorrow.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,848 ✭✭✭Panrich

Yes. He lost focus today and let his emotions get the better of him. You can feed off your emotions to improve your focus a la Padraig in 2007 and especially 2008 but I'm afraid that today, Shane lost his composure.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,280 ✭✭✭techdiver

I just don't see him contending tomorrow unless luck really goes his way and the leaders come back to him.

He lost head and even parts of his game he can usually rely on (short game etc) completely let him down. He hit a lot of bad chips (18 was really bad).

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,281 ✭✭✭big_drive

Hopefully gets the focus back now and has a good run at it tomorrow.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 39,026 ✭✭✭✭eagle eye

He's still in it at three back, high winds is what I want to see, he's without doubt the best in the wild winds, with no rain of course.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,468 ✭✭✭BrianD3

Getting thick with caddies, spectators and probably himself is a pattern with Shane. Loses composure and this then seems to affect his putting which is fragile anyway. Playing in those conditions today has to be frustrating so if any of the leaders was going to implode today, it was likely to be him.

He might get away with losing composure on a GAA pitch but not in golf.

When things don't go his way he gets thick. Whereas when things don't go Rory's way, he gets bewildered.

At least he is still within 3 shots of the lead and can still win it.

why are you bringing GAA into it, is that some kind of a side swipe at his background?

Then you contradict yourself at the end that he can still win it because he’s within 3 shots, so he might get away with the one round where he lost his composure.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,512 ✭✭✭✭fullstop

Had a moan about the ball rollback to the press after because of the 17th 😂

They play in tough conditions once or twice a year, every other week you’ve lads hitting a drive and iron to 600 yard par 5s.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 807 ✭✭✭bobster453

Nice to see them playing in our normal conditions and struggling.Gives me a nice warm glow.😁

Disappointed in Shane really, as a fan.

Turned up to first tee so positive and a great attitude. Things went wrong on 8 ...but so what ..part of the event ..you dont let wheels come off ..forcing stuff ..driver off deck...

    Temper

    Bad language

    Banging clubs

    Blaming crowd ..media

    Course set up

It was real Rory like carry on attitude wise.

I'm being harsh now , but lad in America too long ...couldn't handle bad weather and slow greens ...should be meat and veg. Also ..where was Bo when needed..

Too far back now with lads above.

    One that got away..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,080 ✭✭✭bigtimecharlie

Only 3 back, could have been worse. -7 wins so he still needs a 65………

  • Registered Users Posts: 275 ✭✭dk1982

I don't see why the crowd would be behind him. He's an absolute ignoramus and behaves like a petulant child when things aren't going his way. Does the man of the people schtick then when things going well. Such a dislikable character. If it was Bryson everyone would be calling him out

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,836 ✭✭✭Trampas

Irish media make out butter wouldn’t melt in his mouth but really when pressure on he’s not and if someone else people on here be calling him out. As said earlier Harrington seems to be an exception to the norm. Comes across as a genuine nice guy no matter what the situation is.

They poked and he had a rant about tee positions on some holes. Disappointed to hear it. The golf course was same for everyone

same, very disappointed in his handling of relatively common Irish golfing weather.

He mustn’t have played Winter League growing up.
