What to upgrade in my 2017 build.

You have a lot of options at the moment .

1 . Get a new CPU . Your motherboard can support ryzen 5000 series CPUS . SO update its bios and get a 5700x3d for 210 euro . No other hardware needed . You could slowly upgrade the entire system buying a motherboard and gpu later on .

2 . Wait till the end of the month . AMD are currently getting ready to officially launch ryzen 9000 . SO current ryzen 7000 cpus and probably b650/x670 motherboards will probably drop in price . You could build a very powerful PC on a budget . You will need to buy new ram as are DDR5 only .

3. wait for the rzeyn 9000 series and get that with a motherboard .

It would be nice to know what your budget is . That said the 5700X3D was launched this year alongside the 7800X3D . There is only a few percent between them . SO staying with your current motherboard means its cheaper in the long run . IT gives you time to check things out and upgrade your GPU . The gtx1070 is a bit long in the tooth . The Latest low end nvidia and amd GPUs which are gimped by bandwidth limitations are still faster . SO if you have another 500 to 600 euro so spare i would go for a RTX 4070 or an RX 7800 . They should see you out for a few years even on the AM4 socket .

Again if i knew what budget you have and what you want out of your PC it would be easier to give advice .

I'd return that GPU and stretch to something better. Not only does it have a 128 bit memory bus it's also runs x8 so along with the limited VRAM its going to have issues with the PCIe 3.0 port on your current motherboard. You can make it work and if your budget was tight I can see an arguement for it but seeing as you are saying you have no real budget right now I'd work on another option.

Oh, and if you are thinking this is deliberate from Nvidia to increase sales by aging the cards faster than that would be very cyncial of you :)

Ok, the 4060 Ti cards are also x8 PCIe connections so you run into a similar problem there. At the very least you need 16GB for the 4060/4060 Ti models so the 4060 Ti 16GB is the only choice here for a system running PCIe 3.0. Personally, at this price point I go with the cheaper, faster and more VRAM 7700XT but I understand if you are uneasy not getting a Nvidia card.

If you really wanted a Nvidia card the best bang for buck option out there is the 4070 Super but I'd argue you better also plan to get a high refresh rate monitor to go with it or you are wasting your money. I assume you currently have a 1080p60 monitor which is perfectly fine but if you plan to stick with it the two first cards mentioned are absolutely perfect for that resolution and refresh rate.

Gun to my head, second hand 6700XT/6800 would be my plan. I'd also sniff out any second hand 5x00 chip. X3D or not. I'd suspect you'd be hard pressed to notice the difference day-to-day and you'd get years out of that combo. If I was buying anything new I'd just go whole hog and get a 7600x/9600x system at this point.

There is no 16GB option for the 4070 Super, only the 12GB version (Again, Nvidia don't make this easy). It's not completely ideal but for now it's perfectly fine. Benchmark is the current gen consoles and they are 10GB/12GB so you are good for the time being. Also it runs at x16 on the PCIe bus so if it does have to offload to the systems RAM its not a major bottleneck.

If that's your monitor, get a X3D CPU if you can. I'd wait the few day for the 9x00 release and you could see some nice price drops on all 5x00 CPUs. Good luck.
