He wanted revenge, now it will always be that Biden beat Trump, Trump didn't want that.

Kamala ah Jaysus , they were better off leaving Biden in there

Neither Biden nor Trump should be anywhere near this shyte show.

Both are too old, Biden is becoming senile, trump has the mind of a toddler.

    Bring in young blood.

Harris first words since Biden drops out

''With the significance of the passage of time, we can be, unburdened by what has been''

Thats a phrase she has used a lot over the years... unburdened, often with undaunted. Google it.

I'm not a fan, but mainly because US voters will traditionally penalize a woman.

That said she's of course she's a thousand times better than Trump but more importantly she's better than Biden in his current state. He was a good president, but he was politically done for due to something out of his control, age decline. Even if his team could have run the country for 4 years, US voters weren't going to accept that. Every single poll was showing that. Sadly it was a definite game over if Biden stayed in.

That definite doesn't exist with Kamala. The risk is still there, but everything has changed. She is guaranteed the Democrat block vote. She is young, coherent, articulate, new candidate energy, is a relative unknown, doesn't have a "bad record", possibility of vitalising women and younger voters (as well as black/Asian vote)

Now the race will be on, instead of a foregone conclusion.

Bad move going for neither white nor male. Pushed it too far.

If theyd gone with a run of the mill white male it would be in the bag now.

So the Trumpists who were whining about Biden and calling him a dementia case are now feeling sorry for him? Why bother with that bullshit?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 747 ✭✭✭thatsdaft

Speaking of dementia, let’s start putting on bets how many times geriatric Donald Trump will call Harris … Hillary 🤣

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 31,341 ✭✭✭✭odyssey06

Dunno. Trump beat a lot of run of the mill white guys in primaries in the past.

What message would that send to minority and/or female Democrat base if Harris is seen not to be treated fairly. They have to keep their coalition of votes together.

    Obama beat two white guys.

    Its a compromise.

If they have to choose between two white males and are already on the left theyre voting anyone but DT.

A minority woman however, in this climate, will chase off lots of white male swing votes.

Most white guys are sick of the nonsense from both camps. And a minority woman will just keep the pendulum swinging, and we'll have to hear the usual feminist minority soapbox victory whinging and rhetoric.

    Two items

    1. The spending of campaign funds are not official acts of the President. The distinction between what a president does as a candidate vs does as a president is already well entrenched.
    2. That's not exactly what the Supreme Court said anyway. Immunity from prosecution for an action does not make the action legal and thus it may still be stopped judicial or other means.

It's very odd "imagine what can be and be unburdened by what has been"

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 31,341 ✭✭✭✭odyssey06

What 'nonsense' has Harris come out with that different to Biden that would scare white males?

The Democrats need to get their base out not just for the Presidency but down ticket too.

    It is a balancing act.

If you think white guys feel like that, then similar arguments could be made for women and minority voters if they see 2 white guys running again.

    Cuts both ways.

Seems like a more poetic way of saying look to the promise of tomorrow not what went wrong before ?

Trump is now the oldest candidate ever, very low energy, keeps falling asleep

Well, I'd say its even money that the next President who takes office will be doing so after the Supreme Court has had a heavy involvement in the process.

Democrats should be locking Marc Elias and Jamie Raskin in a room between now and Jan 20th next year to first prevent any mis-steps in what is now happening and secondly to challenge the wall of sh*t that Trump and the GOP are going to throw in to courts after November, should he lose again.

Below tweet pretty much sums up why Harris is now such a threat to Trump. Aside from the main criticism against Biden for being too old having been removed, Harris is a woman who supports abortion rights, and a former prosecutor. Whoever posted above about how a minority woman running might annoy white males, he's forgetting that white males aren't the only people who vote, and abortion rights have become one of the biggest motivators for women voting in huge numbers since Roe V Wade was overturned.

Harris being able to nail Trump on abortion rights and his criminal cases (especially since Trump can no longer use Hunter Biden as a talking point), Harris would eloquently and succinctly demolish Trump in a debate.

Now that Biden is out, I'm looking at all those experts in geriatric medicine to cast their same learned vision on trump given that he's twenty years old that his presumptive opponent

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,259 ✭✭✭Oscar_Madison

He’s had “slip ups” on names and such like but considering his hours long “speeches” just sound like endless “rants” designed to probably be packaged into social media sound bytes for clicks, you’d be hard pressed and good luck in determining what’s intended and deliberate and what’s indicative of mental decline

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,186 ✭✭✭eightieschewbaccy

Or just deciding that he's not up to another four years. Historically speaking, his presidency is likely to be viewed positively... Can't really say the same for Trump's first term...

Fair play to Biden for eventually making the right decision, it was completely untenable to continue.

The trenchant defense of his cognitive competence on here from @Overheal, @everlast75 et al was increasingly divorced from reality and difficult to read.

Thankfully we can now get back to all the ways Trump is dangerous for democracy. He now becomes the oldest nominee ever, and the script can be flipped to his cognitive issues, rambling speeches and fundamental unsuitability to be leader of the Free world. Let’s goooo

Fair play for “listening” to him -it’s more than even his own followers probably do

I say Harris taking over as the running candidate for the Dems is very and probably likely

DNC executive committee member Alan Clendenin of Florida told CBS News on Sunday that he expects a "supermajority" of delegates to coalesce around Harris in the coming days.

"The delegates at the convention are the ones who place our candidate on the ballot," Clendenin said. "If Biden was still on the ticket, that was going to be process."
