    Agreed.

The modern game is littered with fouls, every since Cody introduced the playing on the edge bullshit the game has become dirtier and dirtier.

Its a tough job being a ref, the amount of fouling that goes on is ridiculous.

Grabbing of players jerseys, grabbing the opponents arm, grabbing the hurley, pushing, shoving, wrapping arms around players.

Its a mans game but all the above are fouls and should result in frees but they dont, it often needs 2 or even 3 of these incidents to happen in a row for a free to be awarded.

Agree 100% we either have rules or we don't.I said the very same thing after the Limerick match in Cork when the ball was pucked out as the ball went over the bar and the ref bottled it and didn't call it back.Swings and roundabouts my friend swings and roundabouts. You can't apply the rules that suit u and ignore the ones that don't.

What's bizarre about it,you wanted the rules applied today but were happy to ignore them when it suited you

It's weird if some refereeing calls went our way we would've won. Yet it feels that we're still a fair bit off winning an all Ireland. The last tactically astute manager we had was our most recent all Ireland winning one John Allen.

The referee was a total joke today but leaving him aside I just never felt we had it at any stage. Clare were better at picking up the loose ball and getting stuck in. We never got to grips with the fact that Clare stifled the long puckouts. Cork only won about 45% of our own puckouts versus 60% against Limerick. You're not winning with that sort of stat as it means you're on the backfoot too often.

With regards to the physical stuff the winning of the dirty ball etc, the way club matches in Cork are refereed is not helpings things at all. We seem to be allergic to that sort of stuff in Cork!

The Clare half back line was the rock we perished on today. It's crazy the amount of 50/50 balls Clare won. Yet we still stayed in the game right until the very end.

We died with our boots on in fairness. I just hope we can improve and build on this year and not go backwards.

The reality is that most reffs won't give us a sniff. We need to be at least three or four points a better team to win.

I think Cork just need to be dirtier as well. With the current accepted standard of refereeing playing nice gets you nowhere whereas constant fouling, pushing and jersey pulling gets rewarded. Limerick and Kilkenny showed us that, as did Clare today.

@High bike Take your sour grapes back to the Limerick thread please.

Anyway we have a good spine there in the two Downeys at full and centre back, and we should give Brian Hayes a go at centre forward as well. We should've brought him out there today. It might have helped stem the tide a bit. We need to start getting that bit cuter, slyer and dirtier.

We came back in 1982 and 1983 from losing all Irelands. We did it again after 2003, and the footballers came back to win after 1987 and 1988 and 2007 and 2009. Hopefully the same will happen here!

1000% agree. We need become more dirty and learn few dark arts if we are win Liam. We are just too nice not going to cut it and we won't win Liam Mccarthy until we do so. Ya can see what teams can do now and little is done.

In fairness the lads gave us a rollacoaster year. We were 66/1 before limerick game to get to Holy grail and we nearly did it but came up short.

One team had to lose today and sadly it was us. Got get back up again though.

Sport can be cruel but ya get nothing feeling sorry for yourself. We lost, move on and get tougher and bring more next time.

9 months until the Munster round robin. The intercounty championship season is too short!

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,471 ✭✭✭robbiezero

This year the Clare half back line is better than Limericks.

Hayes is brilliant but the other 2 have struggled all year and are in trouble once they have to turn back towards their own goal.

All 3 Clare half backs are better than Hannon and Byrnes this year ( who have been brilliant players in past years)

3 months of club games coming up if you're interested???

  • Registered Users Posts: 18,263 ✭✭✭✭namloc1980

I know that. I was specifically talking about the intercounty championship.

Speaking of clubs, referees in Cork generally tend to apply the rules more rigidly at club level. This doesn't help our intercounty players when they play for Cork due to the different and more "anything goes" approach to refereeing at intercounty level.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,992 ✭✭✭almostover

It's a bit mad though that we have to resort to not playing by the rules at club level to compete at intercounty level? Hurling has a rules problem now with a long time. I think back to Richie Hogan's deserved sending off Vs. Tipp a while back and the sh*tstorm that caused. That's the reason why you see decisions made like what happened today.

Club hurling in Cork is an issue. We haven't won a Munster club hurling since Newtown in 2009. And haven't had a club in the final since the Glen in 2016. The famine will continue a while yet until that is sorted out

The all Ireland finals really do need to be switched back to August imo.

It's because Cork hurling is too nice and too by the book. Once we get out of Cork at any level the refereeing is very different and other counties are much cuter at playing to that standard.

It's not the only problem with Cork hurling, but it's a factor.

We've only won the one all Ireland in that as well after Midelton's 1988 win, and that sole win by Newtownshandrum was twenty years ago now.

Trying to make sense of the day. Thought Clare played better in general from 15/20 minutes onwards. Lorded it in their half back line and found space so easily in the midfield. Goals were well taken but question marks over the defending of each. Yet Cork stayed in it.

Some of the ref’s decisions were cat and the one point difference highlights them more. Have been to matches over the years where you rue one decision in a tight game and there were multiple here to complain about. Leaves a sour taste.

Fair play to the Clare defending though. If the Cork forwards got going today, we had the beating of them but some of our lads (who looked great in the semi), were kept fairly quiet. Where we had lads out a few yards of their marker in the semi, they were only on top of them today.

I actually thought we had a decent chance going into extra time with some decent subs. In hindsight, maybe a replay was badly needed after the performance to that point. Still proud of the team though and of the fans. Really showed ourselves to be some of the best around again.

The rot has set in with a long time, one swallow won't make a summer. Some fans could be very disappointed yet in 2025. We have a decent team but not guaranteed to make the final again any time soon. Today was a huge opportunity missed. But this Clare team was 5 years in the making before they reached a final. And they took their chance. But it's built on some club success by Ballyea and Clonlara who have at least been getting to Munster finals. Waterford will surely come good too off the back of Ballygunner. Same with Limerick, Na Piarsiagh had success and it followed then at intercounty level. Thurles Sars and Borrisoleigh had success when Tipp last were going well. If our club hurling drought is allowed to continue our All Ireland famine will too

Hopefully those all Ireland winning u20's can step up to the plate for us. We've won three out of the last five all Irelands at u20 level. That would suggest that the raw materials are there. Hopefully this was like 2003 and we drive on from it and not a flash in the pan like 2013.

Not here to rub any one's noses on it , hard luck today lads, I would be lying if I said we didn't get the rub of the green

We spoke about cork in the past being clever and exploiting weekness's in officials in the past today he suited us especially Conor leen more then anyone

It was a great game, the one thing in cork is the bandwagon can't die , as Anthony Daly would say the hurling gods have no sympathy

Wheather it's Clare , Limerick Waterford or even now Tipperary or Kilkenny it seems we all have to do our penance before we win anything

The famine will end keep the faith, great game today lads hard luck

The Clare half back line was the winning of the game for ye. Clare won an awful lot more of the 50/50 balls as well. Congrats again to Clare, and please god this Cork team will learn from this and drive on next year.

I still for some reason think David mc is getting away with murder, Diarmuid Ryan and Conlon were excellent today and a major part of us winning

I think David mc Came into the game more after the likes of Barrett and Dalton left

I hope ye win one before harnedy and Horgan step aside, both were excellent today and all year , they say 40 is the new 30 so they may have many years to go yet

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,587 ✭✭✭Seadin

Will Horgan stay on or is that the last dance for him? He looked really dejected after the final whistle but understandably in the circumstances. Probably be an impact sub if anything going forward.

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,050 ✭✭✭windy shepard henderson

He skinned a 21 year old for most of the game and stayed on longer then Shane Barrett and Alan Connelly

He is a year younger than John Conlon who was one of our best players today

    Hoggy Will be back
