You’ll meet a few in here who will say Trump had nothing to do with that.

He's infected the Republican party and has stacked the Supreme Court, he's untouchable and will never be prosecuted unfortunately.

The history books will look back and say how could a period in American history be so corrupt

If you check the posts of Trump supporters on it, they tend to sell display it as best they can. You'd think it was a tour of the Capitol.

Trump supporters haven't defamed Harris enough to impact her because their attention was not on her.

Trump supporters applied pressure too early to get Biden to step down.

Trump supporters now have to deal with the jibes about a geriatric Presidental candidate themselves.

They fashioned this stick with which to beat themselves.

The Clinton's have endorsed Harris. Obama so far has not, just thanked Biden for his service. Whether this leaves the door open for Michelle to run is anyone's guess. Pelosi also no endorsement yet.

The time thing isn't an issue, the yanks have short attention spans and get bored easily. Better to have someone new and shiny for a couple of months ahead of the election rather than someone they get bored of and run back to the reality TV show that is Trump. Trump is the political version of Jersey shore or Cops. Everyone knows its shìte but they tune in regardless then they'll complain the next day that they stayed up late watching it.

According to all reports, Michelle Obama has zero desire to get involved in electoral politics.

I would've thought that if senior Dems approached Biden asking he step down, they must've had a plan for his succession. ie, "if you step down Joe, we're all in behind Kamala" And if they didn't have a plan, why would he step down. I don't think he would have left a vacuum behind him, leading to infighting in the party. Which is why he endorsed Harris straight away.

What bothers me now, is why the Obamas, Pelosi etc haven't. Speculation leads to uncertainty and division and if cracks appear in the party on this, Trump will start writing his victory speech.

it'll be Harris - after the trauma of sticking the knife into Biden no-one in the Dems will have the appetite for a contested convention, and none of other mentioned names will want to be seen to rock the boat.

There are pros and cons to going with Harris but that's the same for any alternative options.

That would be the worst thing the Dems could do in terms of election strategy. If Harris takes over now, Trump gets to campaign against her as POTUS. Any slip-ups, any incident or disaster that happens “on her watch”, Trump can blame her for, or claim that her response is inadequate. He can always say “I would have done better”, and never have to prove it. She would spend her 4-and-a-bit-months Presidency constantly on the back foot, on the defensive, without ever having the advantage of the first 3 years of her term to prove herself the way most Presidents do. She’s much better off campaigning on a platform of being the future President, rather than the current one. The fact of her merely being the candidate is a big enough platform in itself.

If Biden stays on as President, Trump has to campaign on two fronts - against Harris as his competitor, but still against Biden as the incumbent. Trump is already falling into the trap of wasting energy on calling for Biden to step down as Pres. But Biden has absolutely nothing to lose by staying on. And Harris has nothing to gain by replacing him now, so it’s in the Dem’s interests to let Trump at it.

What the Republicans need to do now is forget about Biden altogether, or at least frame Harris as a “Continuity Biden”, and shift their focus to her. But I don’t think Trump will be able to resist wasting at least some of his time attacking Biden.

Rapid fire legal analysis of the news and what it may mean for the Dems ticket

TLDR, Heritage will try and sue in several states, probably lack any standing. Campaign funds will likely be divested in a number of ways if need be.

Trump is attacking Harris as Joe's current VP

She can campaign all she likes on being future POTUS but she'll be attacked for her current role in Biden's administration

That's the strategy assuming she's the nominee

"Trump supporters applied pressure too early to get Biden to step down."

It was the pressure from his own side that led to Biden stepping down, no amount of pressure from Trump supporters would have caused that.

Trump supporters didn't time the debate. They had been talking about Biden being a bit frail physically and mentally for quite a while, but nobody was interested in listening to them. However, the trouble started when Biden faltered on live, heavily watched (internationally as well as domestically) TV with no possibilities of selective editing or taking things out of context. Once that happened, there was no further ignoring it and the issue took on a life of its own

Who will win the debate? The former prosecutor and attorney general vs the newly convicted criminal felon, and civil court adjudicated sexual assault defamer?

I see that Kamala Harris's Jamaican father may have an Irish ancestor.

If she gets in, we might have a 24th (of 46) Irish US president.

Need to find the village the ancestors came from next.

    Who is running their country?

A belief in gender identity involves a level of faith as there is nothing tangible to prove its existence which, as something divorced from the physical body, is similar to the idea of a soul. - Colette Colfer

I know, but she’s clear second favourite with most of the bookies this morning, so somebody doesn’t believe those reports…

a president egging on people resulting in violence.

what should be the punishment for that?

Violence against their own country? That's treason, so I suppose prison?

It's the US though, so they probably have the death penalty for it.

I think of that stuff akin to the Catholic Church “nothing to see here, just shut up and do what we say” approach to all the abuses they did in the past. There’s simply a cult of personality and extremist divide and nobody rational left in the Republican Party to provide a dissenting voice.

It’s funny reading “yeh but Biden/Dems are dodgy, bad, corrupt” responses. Yes, there are skeletons in their closet and to be frank they are in many ways as culpable and wickedly self absorbed as the republicans. But there are different levels of corruption and unethical stances on this.

Trump is just about the worst piece of sh*t kind of person you could pick or want leading into a time where it seems like they are gonna deconstruct the rules that used to protect Americans from a rogue president. I won’t repeat what he’s done, but he’s as corrupt, manipulative and dangerous a character as you could have in such an important country to the world.

The fact he is standing so strong is as big an endictment against the democrats. There’d be nothing more beautifully poetic than Trump/republicans losing this election to a black American woman. I mean that’s nearly the bingo of “f**k you” rejection to the republicans and it would be deserving.

The scary thing is how many of them eat it up.

    Paranoid CT.

All people on the right have simply leapt on Trumps talking point that Biden is incapable. It's like parrots in a row.

Harris going for election is really a no lose situation for the democrats.

If she wins then fair enough but if she loses they can blame it all on her being a "woman of colour" and say the reason she didn't win is due to racism and sexism.

Seems to me this whole election show show broken Politics in America is that out of over 350 million people this is the best America can do a sleazebag crook like Trump and Harris whom nobody likes and who essentially got her start in politics due to her relationship with Willie Brown.
