Wasn't Kamala saying 3 days ago that Joe was fine & there is nothing wrong with him,

What kind of a president will she be if she couldn't see a man she spoke to almost every day was struggling,

Is she stupid or was she just lying to the American public ?

the worst anyone could do at this point is be complacent though - yes hopefully she will get there but Republicans will throw more mud in the next few months than we’ve never seen before- this will be an extremely dirty campaign by the Republicans -the more worried the Trump camp is, the more mud.

While much of it will naturally fall off, some will stick - I don’t see Trump doing a TV debate - Harris needs a TV debate to secure her position overall - I don’t think Trump will play ball on that. If he doesn’t, I’d be somewhat worried

I agree with the first part- she’ll certainly have to fight fight fight using a cool calm measured style

  • Registered Users Posts: 127 ✭✭advisemerite

Yeah I sent it to Donald. He'll sling the mud on Kinky Kamala soon.

Harris needs a TV debate to secure her position overall

No she doesn't, if Trump chickens out of the debate she just needs to hammer him for it.

Rapey Don afraid to debate a woman, etc.

And Trump is from a project in the Bronx? 😀

Harris will never get the red neck loonies that Trump has bagged nor neither does she want them - swing voters along with encouraging as many ethnic minorities out on the day will be her key focus

  • Registered Users Posts: 40,162 ✭✭✭✭Boggles

It's called politics lad, your black and white interruption is what is "stupid".

  • Registered Users Posts: 28,488 ✭✭✭✭looksee

Define 'kinky'? Kamala Harris was single when she had a relationship with Willie Brown, at which time he was separated from his wife for some 10 years. Would you like to explain exactly what is wrong with that?

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,060 ✭✭✭Oscar_Madison

Ya see I call that complacency - yes I think Harris is actually a great candidate / but I live in Ireland so what the feic does my view count for anything. It might be logical to you and to me to vote Harris but American “logic” is different - it will be neck and neck if there’s no debate - it will be a much more comfortable place to be if there is.

Or just do what I did and add him to your ignore list.

  • Registered Users Posts: 40,162 ✭✭✭✭Boggles

I don't actually think Harris is a great candidate, that said I don't think you would need a great candidate to beat Trump.

If all Democrats row in behind her swiftly and they run a proper campaign she could become a great candidate.

Still a punt though, glass ceilings are tough to break.

But if her speech last night is a template going forward, then Convict Don is in a far worse place then he was 2 weeks ago.

Still way too early to call and a long long way to go yet.

Woman having Sex seems to be a weird concept for a certain cohort of males.

If she's not 'doing it' to procreate (clearly not in KHs case) then she must either be doing it to gain favour (which is considered bad) or doing it because she quite enjoys it (which is considered arguably worse, the harridan).

It's an attitude which is generally best ignored.

In depth article on Mark Kelly

If they can risk his senate seat he make an excellent VP pick and complement Harris

    The guy is a hero

People of an older generation ask each other do they remember where they were when JFK got shot. I remember where I was when Gabrielle Giffords was shot, and because it was all happening in real time for me, I have great respect and fondness for her, and by extension her husband.

He would be an excellent choice for VP, Arizona is a swing state and comes with an attractive 11 electoral votes.

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,060 ✭✭✭Oscar_Madison

my sentiments too from my previous posts- hence not taking anything for granted - it’s not Trump per se it’s the Republican voter - Harris could be brilliant or she could say just one thing that absolutely inflames the Republican voters and they come out enmasse to vote against her- we’re gonna see ugly here for the next few months that’s for sure

  • Registered Users Posts: 83,136 ✭✭✭✭Overheal

that’s why I got out of that “new” account so far.

I think Harris is a good candidate to go against Trump.

With so little time, there is no chance they can throw someone "new" into the mix. Especially considering there was no primary. Harris running will just be seen as a continuation of the Biden administration (to dems). Of course Reps will argue it but they wont and shouldnt get anything from that.

But because there is little time left, no serious politician would want to throw their hat in the ring in these circumstances. For example if I ran. I would have 4 months show America that I deserve the job. I would have to fund raise and get my team out to all 52 states to get enough votes to put up a fight against Trump. Thats even if I had the delegates on side. It would be silly.

People like Newsome will be "writing off" this election. They will of course hope Harris gets elected. But they will be writing it off for themselves. They will be working on building a platform for in 4 years time. There is a potential that in 4 years time it will be two new rivals that we dont even know yet. It makes sense for serious politicians to hold tight and not gamble. Harris is the only one that makes sense to go for it. She can play the Female, Woman of color, DA vs the Felon, anyone but trump. Loads of ways to market her campaign.

I think it will be close.

Third photo down. Kamala with her great great grandmother - Iris Finegan.

There'll be a feckin' petrol station with a statue of her somewhere yet. But it will never be as glorious as a golf-club.

    What is the quote again?

    'The Democrats fall in Love,

    The Republicans fall in Line."

People will vote for Trump for many reasons.

  • Registered Users Posts: 30,276 ✭✭✭✭odyssey06

And many of those reasons are because they are bigots, or because they are duped by his lies.
Some of them paying more attention to his sound bites than actual policy.
Some of them not paying much attention at all.

Some of them happy to have an 'alpha' male misogynist about.

Some of them, with money to burn, don't care what else happens as long as Trump cuts their tax bill.

ps and I don't think they were 'in love' with Biden in 2020.

This is the bit Democrats want to gloss over.

Although she appears qualified and intelligent on paper, she is just not and has never been popular, not even with her own party.

The presidential election boils down to a popularity contest and the question of who you identify with the most.

Larry Donnally, who appears regularly on Irish TV and radio has been very negative about her chances and cuts through the sugar rush of Harris being new and shiny. In his words, she has difficulty connecting with people.

  • Registered Users Posts: 14,655 ✭✭✭✭markodaly

This is a fair point and an attack angle Trump and Co. will use.

All last week, we had Harris and Buttigeg and others, all roll back behind Biden and put their neck and faith in him. Now, it is amnesia time, as if it never happened. And if he cannot run as President, then why is he STILL president?
Who is actually running the show right now?

It is clear people were lied to about Biden and his declining condition, and Harris was front and centre in that deception.

They should just come clean on it.

  • Registered Users Posts: 14,655 ✭✭✭✭markodaly

So the Democrats and Harris lied to the American people knowingly…. but sure that is politics, whats the big deal, am I right?

Ye have no right then to claim a higher moral ground than Trump if that is the case.
    Just saying ;)

  • Registered Users Posts: 30,276 ✭✭✭✭odyssey06

Not at all, they trust Biden, and if he felt he could do it, then that's good enough.

If the time came when Biden didn't think he could carry on, didn't think he was best placed to win and lead the country for the next 4 years, we respect that.

That's all they have to say, and I expect they will say something that's an approximation of that.

    Its true tbf

Look at the Taits. They have a certain cohort that worship them because of the way they talk.

I wont pick on anyone here but think about the "typical Politics speak". The big words are designed to make someone sounds smarter than they are. The words that disguise a lack of point. Thats the old school Politics.

But then look at people like Andrew Tait and Trump. Of course its ignorant and vile. But it resonates because its clear. Its a clear message with simple words. Words that people hear and think "at least they are being honest". EVEN WHEN THE WORDS ARE NOT. Because the words are an honest way of speaking, it gets mixed up with the words themselves actually being honest.

The regular person see's these people saying words they can understand and thinks they are not lying to them.

But to engage with these people we have to not throw accusations at them. Look at the things happening in Coolock right now. Some of them are just bigots. But it doesnt mean all of them are. The same with Trump supporters. They are not all bigots. When you label them as such, you just exclude them from changing their minds. If you tell you that you are a racist if you dont vote for such and such, you are gonna think "f*** you". Rightfully so. Debate and diplomacy is the only way to change peoples minds.

Easy. Biden got Covid and at that stage Biden took the decision that he felt it was better for the country to hand the baton onto another candidate. Harris was and is happy to continue to support Biden but respects his decision, for the sake of both the country and his health, to step aside.

Then you simply turn around and ask why Trump has a long litany of picking the worst people. Why should we believe that Vance will be a good VP for the country when Trump last pick, Pence, was tossed aside by Trump?

The Dems acted remarkably fast. Just 26 days between the debate and Biden announcing he wasn't running for 24.

    This x1000

We, in Ireland, like to get on a moral high horse and point the finger at those 'dumb' Americans, but we are fed a certain viewpoint and most of us don't live there, so what do we actually know? Are interaction and knowledge of the US is almost entirely media led. Like who many of ye know folks in the US, in those battleground states. Very very few, if any.

Ask the average Irish American who they would vote for in an Irish Election, they would probably all say Sinn Fein (because of a United Ireland), so in their books, we should have a Sinn Fein overall majority, which of course won't happen. There is more nuance to it than that, because we in Ireland want different things ahead of a UI…

Like in the US. The average Joe and Jane care about the economy, immigration undercutting the price of labour, inflation, the price of Gas, cost of insurance, education, health.. the usual stuff we care about in Ireland.

It is very rich for someone living in a nice leafy suburb in Dublin or elsewhere to tell some working-class guy living in Akron, Ohio who to vote for and if you don't, you are 'stupid'!
