All that is just your opinion, it holds no more weight than my opinion, regardless of what you're a student of.

So @advisemerite, if someone were to forcibly insert their fingers into your mother's vagina would you think they're a good candidate for President?

Or is it only the case if they're bright orange, failed businessmen with incontinence problems and a penchant for being pissed on by Russian sex workers?

This is an odd take on it.

You say Harris doesn't have any of the popularity issues that Biden had in 2020?

You do know that Biden and Harris had a democratic primary where Harris called Biden a racist?

    Biden won the primary.

Harris dropped out as she flopped in many of the debates and received ZERO votes and delegates in the primary.

How on earth can you therefore come to the conclusion that while Biden wasn't great, he was the safe pair of hands, but now Harris is in the race, the issues of Hilary and Biden don't plague her.

I have to repeat, she has never received one vote in a primary. Huge question marks over her likeability and popularity.

A lot of money was held back because of the uncertainty over Biden. That has now been resolved, so the money is starting to come in again.

To draw some conclusion that itself is a metric of Harris's popularity is way off the mark.

I meant popularity in terms of identity and who someone can relate to, especially in middle America, in those swing states. Clinton failed to do that. Biden in fairness did. Massive question marks if Harris can repeat Biden trick, or will it be Clinton V2.0?

Yes, Larry Donnelly is one person but I think he cuts through a lot of crap you see in Irish media about US politics. Scott Lucas is a parody of himself at this stage. It is like he has torrets syndrome in the way he speaks about Trump.

Donnelly is also a democrat and knows the game well. He is a numbers man and his past predictions are usually spot on.

JD Vance served in the US Marines and did a tour of Iraq.

I have to repeat, she has never received one vote in a primary.

Neither had Biden, didn't stop him being chosen for VP and then holding the record for most votes of any presidential campaign and becoming POTUS. Sound familiar?

What's your point? Or are you just repeating a Bill Maher talking point without critically thinking about it?

It's an Irish social media forum, if we can't call a spade a spade here then where can we?

Well, you might as well be howling at the moon, and then wonder why it doesn't howl back. The moon must be stupid of course..

The majority of the debate is just high-horsed navel-gazing and proclaiming oneself and ourselves (Irish people) as a morally superior race of people, the 'good folk', well 'cause we ain't stupid!'

You have not gotten the memo.

This is year Zero, Pol Pot style.

    There is no history.

    There is no review.

    There is no reflection.

And because there is no history, no mistakes have been made…

Eh, we are talking about being President, not VP. Do keep up.

Biden won the Democratic primary in 2020. He deserved his spot on the ticket..

Harris has not received one single vote nationally in any election, or primary. She flopped in 2020. Why?

Or do you not want to think about it?

  • Registered Users Posts: 14,655 ✭✭✭✭markodaly

I thought progressives and liberals would be against US Marines shooting Arabs?

Now its held against him that he didn't. I cant keep up.

6 months in Iraq as a combat correspondent. Pretty different to the guy with 5000 hours on multiple aircrafts and reached the rank of Captain. He was an effective member of the Navy for nearly 30 years, Vance meanwhile had 4 years with only 6 months deployed as a correspondent…

As a public relations guy. It's not impressive in any way. Never fired a shot in anger because they never let him. **** idiot is what Vance is.

  • Registered Users Posts: 10,480 ✭✭✭✭AbusesToilets

I'm against someone trying to misportray their military service for political gain. Nothing wrong with being a combat correspondent, but it's not remotely equivalent to a combat role, or a support role that exposes one to danger.

I predict either Joshua Shapiro PA or Mark Kelly AZ

The original comment you replied to was suggesting that Kelly's record might convince some Republicans to vote for him. By comparison, Vance's record, as the Republican VP nominee, pales in comparison.

It was nothing to do with progressives or liberals.

You're trying to switch the argument around a bit, there, because you got caught out. A military background seems to be an aggregate political plus in the US, but people are pointing out that he didn't really see action, so it's a pretty fragile pillar to rest his desired image of a political hardman on, whereas potential Dem VP pick Mark Kelly did see action and has a few prestigious medals to show for it. Not someone Vance would be thrilled to go up against.

The only reason Vance is on the ticket is because he was groomed by his billionaire sponsor to restore the tax cuts Biden took away. He's a literal tool.

She will need to pick someone awful as VP. If she picks anyone better than her it will make her look second rate. E

A VP function is to make her look good so that would be his/her only function. A good politician could do that even if they were better than her.

I think Kamala needs to come out strong and start picking apart Trump and Vance, show her savvy attorney fighting background

    delivering that:

    https://www.mediaite.com/news/team-harris-hits-back-at-rally-warning-of-civil-war-if-trump-loses-with-bikers-for-trump-leading-the-charge/

Statement on Trump Campaign Warning of ‘Civil War’

    Where is the promised unity?

“Dictator” on “day one.” “Bloodbath.” “Unhinged.”

That is what Donald Trump and his allies are promising if they lose this November. A campaign about revenge and retribution.

Now, JD Vance is kicking off his first campaign event introduced by a Republican official warning of a “civil war” if Donald Trump loses this November.

A reminder of how Donald Trump has led his party and encourages political violence:

    • Trump repeatedly denied the results of the 2020 election and refused to commit to accepting the results of the 2024 election, including three separate times on the debate stage
    • Trump inspired a violent mob to attack the Capitol building in an attempt to overturn the results of the 2020 election
    • Trump was impeached for his involvement in January 6 and became the first president to receive votes in favor of conviction by members of his own party
    • Trump encouraged loyalists to attack those who criticized his involvement in the insurrection, including his own vice president
    • Trump promised supporters he would deliver “retribution” and pardon convicted January 6 rioters, who he referred to as “hostages”
    • Trump called for violence, including shootings, against Americans protesting racism and police brutality
    • Trump endorsed physical attacks against protesters at his rallies
    • Trump encouraged attacks against the press and praised a congressman’s assault of a journalist
    • Trump undermined efforts to combat white supremacist terrorism
    • Trump instructed the Proud Boys to “stand back and stand by”
    • Trump said there were “very fine people on both sides” at Charlottesville
    • Trump warned that Americans “won’t have a country” if he loses in November
    • Trump compared his political opponents to “vermin” in a speech that echoed Hitler, who he once praised for having done “some good things”
    • Trump shared a video that referenced a “unified Reich” in his ideal vision for the country
    • Trump threatened to become a dictator on “day one” if he wins – and warned of a “bloodbath” if he loses

Harris for President Campaign Spokesperson Ammar Moussa released the following statement:

“Donald Trump and JD Vance are running a campaign openly sowing hatred and promising revenge against their political opponents. It’s a feature, not a bug, of their campaign and message to the American people. That’s why a Republican official was empowered to predict a civil war while introducing these candidates.

“Trump and Vance pay lip service to unity, but their actions are more focused on dividing Americans than bringing us together. It’s the polar opposite of everything Vice President Harris stands for.

“Donald Trump and JD Vance should denounce George Lang’s calls for violence and apologize for platforming this kind of violence.”

    and did what exactly?

You’ll find out he was a pencil pusher. A war correspondent. Not some front line infantryman.

There is no defence but most Trump voters don't care. Which is why I said only idiots or bigots vote for him. Let me add to that people with no compassion or humanity.

  • Registered Users Posts: 13,849 ✭✭✭✭briany

I have a better idea: pick the strongest VP candidate she can and emphasise that she and her running mate are a team, and that they would confer and counsel each other on all matters of state.

Aside from Mark Kelly's military record versus Vance's military record, are we forgetting that Mark Kelly was also an astronaut?
