Best uncapped side is a funny enough concept as there's only 14 senior players still uncapped ha.

(Actually as I type it I realise I'm going by Leinster site which isn't up to date on academy grads. Boyle got promoted so 15 that I count)

Prendergast surely in line for International minutes this November against Fiji or someone else fitness depending to others.

South Africa cemented a pretty clear pecking order for Farrell in Green of Crowley, Frawley and Prendergast (this could obviously change)

One maybe for the Ulster or Ireland thread but Aiden Morgan is a totally unknown quantity. I am NOT calling for him to be capped this November but he might go straight on the Emerging tour, and if he does well you never know. Stranger things have happened and Farrell (but now Easterby for the mo) is not afraid to make big calls.

Boyle started last season extremely strongly and Leinster looks to be managing his development quite well. His scrummaging performances were largely good but I am cognisant of fact that I had no previous performances to rate him on. He was a totally blank slate. Hopefully he starts this season and shows himself as a solid contender for European rugby.

As you said, Milne kinda forgot how to scrummage towards the end of last season. If I'm Boyle I'm looking at him saying that jersey is mine.

Prendergast is locked in against Fiji, the only real question is whether he gets gametime in one of the other matches as well. Wouldn't be shocked to see him on the bench against Arg.

I think anyone who goes on the EI tour is in with a shot of gametime against Fiji, albeit it small for most of them.

I wonder how well Morgan (1.72m, 82kg) handles the physicality. He's barely bigger than Michael Lowry (1.70m, 79kg). Might be better also if he was allowed to find his feet with Ulster through getting a run of games rather than being taken out of the set up soon after joining.

I hope Frawley is given a game at 12, possibly with Osborne at 13. They've worked well together for Leinster, be nice to see him in his best position for once

Its hard to see from the list of uncapped players who's closest to an international cap alright.

But in fairness if players take their chance well enough they put themselves in the shop Window. Joe McCarthy kinda came out of nowhere in some ways.

I've long said that TOB probably would have gotten an international cap if not for the timing of his ACL in 2022. But unless he starts this coming season with a solid few months of consistent game time I don't see it except perhaps this upcoming summer tour. He's unquestionably the closest uncapped Leinster player.

Outside of him, I'm not so sure. I don't think Penny is a better option than Hodnett or Dave McCann. I don't think Foley is a better option than Doak or Devine. I don't think Russell is a better option than Kilgallen or Smith.

Props are a different aspect altogether as the 3rd choice is very much up for grabs. Especially at loosehead. If Milne fixes his scrummaging (and this is something he had a reasonable hold of before last season) he could be in the shop window.

Clarkson is definitely behind Jager and even then there is still an argument to have Moore or Ryan in there. And I'm not convinced Clarkson at present is a better option than Aungier or Wilson.

With Sheehan gone the conversation at hooker might open up? One injury to Kelleher or Herring and we're looking further down the depth chart. Obviously Stewart is there. And we can and do call on Heffernan. That's probably an acceptable depth chart and given the age profile of Sheehan Kelleher and Stewart. We don't exactly need to harvest more youth.

Looks more like South Dublin to me... 🤔😅

To be fair Lowry still got international caps at his stature.

10s can get away with having a more diminutive stature these days too. Thinking of Marcus Smith and Damien McKenzie.

But your point is valid. Probably better he gets comfortable in Ulsters setup. Heck he might even be way off the mark. I do think it will add an interesting conversation if he comes and lights it up immediately

I neither love it nor hate it.

I do love how they've embroidered the crest on though. As it should be.

In any case as with many jerseys in recent years I am far too cheap to buy it. But if given it as a present I will be earnestly thankful and like it 😂

It looks decent enough but my jaysus they made no effort with the launch photos. Who’s around the office? Nah you’ll be grand in jeans.

I know where you're coming from but the marketing guff is all about wearing it "on & off the field" so that's the vibe they're going for, I'd say

  • Registered Users Posts: 10,489 ✭✭✭✭AbusesToilets

Wish they'd done gold piping on it.

The new jersey in kind of nice.

  • Registered Users Posts: 339 ✭✭DelMcG

I'm in two minds about it. From a distance, I think it look a bit like the last Adidas European jersey, which I liked, but up close, I'm really not sold on the detailing. I've seen it described as looking like a Christmas jumper & now I can't unsee that 😅

Notwithstanding the fact it's Castore, so the material quality will be awful, the delivery times will completely unreliable & the price will be extortionate

Has anyone actually been able to track their order from the Leinster website?

  • Registered Users Posts: 8,581 ✭✭✭Dubinusa

Academy is a blank slate on Leinster's website?

  • Registered Users Posts: 183 ✭✭johnh6767

When are academy contracts announced ?

  • Registered Users Posts: 7,158 ✭✭✭COH

Got an email that my parcel had shipped with a link to track via UPS. That link redirects to StarTrack which seems to be a subsidiary of Australia Post.

1st attempt: Our tracking system is down

2nd attempt: Your tracking number is incorrect

3rd attempt: Your tracking number does not exist.

    So thats great anyway 🥲

Martin Moloney having a trial at Exeter. Hadn't realised he'd been released.

Generally the tracking number doesn't go live on the carrier's system until they've received it.

It's been done to death in this thread but Farrell is on to something with Frawley at ten. Interesting to note how Squidge analysed his first drop goal in the second test. Just an off the cuff decision in response to the quality of Pollard's goal line drop out which made Ireland's routine of Doris carrying back unworkable. He made the point that Ireland's adherence to their system approach has been key to their success but also perhaps the source of their limitations, Frawley seems to have the ability to play with the accuracy required to keep the system humming bit with the creativity and courage to make big calls where needed. I'm not suggesting Crowley doesn't but Crowley doesn't play for Leinster. It's a kind of rerun of where Joe ran into the ground and an important question for both Ireland and Leinster given how both their seasons played out. One way or another Leo is going to have to make a big decision in the next couple of months.

  • Registered Users Posts: 13,106 ✭✭✭✭Interested Observer

I hope Leo will be brave and go with Prendergast from the off, but I don't think there's any chance of that. Leinster play Munster in October in the first serious game of the season, I full expect to see Ross at 10.

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,014 ✭✭✭Former Former Former

I think we need to see more of Frawley at 10 but I'd be very hesitant about all these suggestions that he's our best 10.

Like, Frawley won that game for us, the ballsiness and technique were top drawer. But, in the lead-up to the second, he kicked away possession when we were two points down and less than a minute on the clock. It was fantastic that SA carried into touch but also a fair amount of luck, and tbh I'd question the decision-making behind that.

IMO he's still a 12 slotting in at 10, but at the same time, we need to give him a run of games at 10 to really find that out.

  • Registered Users Posts: 11,361 ✭✭✭✭salmocab

There was a discussion on during the last test in the pub, I think ultimately Frawley is a better rugby player than either Byrne but they are both probably steadier 10s. Maybe missing the extra edge he has but can see why Leo would prefer them. Not necessarily my own feeling on it as I’d like to see us kick on and don’t really think Ross will be the one to guide us on.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,518 ✭✭✭ersatz

There's an argument that that kick was well calculated and turned the last defender forcing him to carry out or risking Lowe regathering/

  • Registered Users Posts: 8,581 ✭✭✭Dubinusa

I don't know. Leo see's Frawley every day and yet he hasn't pulled the trigger. I would like to see Frawley given a chance. I fully expect Ross to log out v Edinburgh for the opener and if he goes well, I assume he'll get the call.

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,991 ✭✭✭leakyboots

Agree wholeheartedly. I was roaring at the TV when he kicked it up the line in the 79 min or whatever it was. It paid off and worked out but on another day that doesn't get brought into touch, it's their lineout, they recycle for a couple of phases and kick it out and we're lamenting Frawley's lack of nous. You make your own luck though so fair play to him.

Didn't he have a poor crossfield kick also when he came on? The dropgoals were superb obviously, and it was a great redemption for him, but I'd like to see more of his general 10 play before anointing him challenger to Crowley's jersey.

Like you said, he needs a decent run of games at 10 for Leinster and we see what he's made of. There's a lot of competitors there, hard to see who will lay claim to the jersey this season.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 26,961 Mod ✭✭✭✭Podge_irl

I'm very much in the "the Byrnes aren't the answer" camp so I'm happy enough for Leinster to roll with Frawley and Prendergast but I'm also fairly sure which one is going to be the better 10 in that scenario. Frawley is an excellent impact sub in many ways, but I've not once been convinced by him when he started at 10.

  • Registered Users Posts: 10,489 ✭✭✭✭AbusesToilets

I'd rather see Leo back Prendergast from the off. Let Frawley play at 12. We don't need to ruin him the way Paddy Wallace was.

Frawley wants to play 10 so either play him there or lose him.
