Roche kicking conversions may as well not bother taking them unless under the posts. His efforts were absolutely awful. No idea why you can't check what was a clear knock on before a try.

    He has.

Giving him the joker card was a mistake. They should have stuck with the squad they have. 7s is too different a game.

Bizarre, the TMO has been super quick too all tournament.

  • Registered Users Posts: 12,639 ✭✭✭✭AdamD

Fairly shafted on that last try, blatant knock on which the ref somehow misses in real time and doesn't check.

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,036 ✭✭✭Cosmo Kramer

That's the last we'll see of Irish 15s players switching across to sevens anyway.

How can Fiji not have conceded a yellow card. 9-0 penalty count by my reckoning

    Another quarter final bed wetting

What.a frustrating game. Too much riding on a poor ref decision or a bounce of a ball. Can't imagine what it does to the players.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,919 ✭✭✭Musicrules

Ah lads, like in the 15's rugby, people won't admit it but that's 2 chokes today from the 7's!

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,042 ✭✭✭ElisaAtWar

four years from now we will be better. but honestly Keenan. he was was rubbish all the way through the competition

They absolutely aren't badly coached - if anything they're probably one of the best coached teams on the circuit. We simply do not have the athletic profile of the likes of Fiji or NZ. We have either quick guys (Kennedy, Conroy) or big guys (McNulty, Kelly) but we don't have big and quick guys really - Fiji have probably 50 guys like that.

We play a highly scripted possession based game that maximises the skillset we have, but realistically we probably punch above our weight relative to our talent base here.

Robbed by the ref not checking the clearest of knockons, Roche also cost his time throughout the entire tournament with a dire kicking display, after his 15th miss in a row it might have been an idea to try someone else

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,086 ✭✭✭Lost Ormond

Ridiculous post. Going out to side whos won every 7s tournament in olympucs since introduced isn't poor. Or anything g like you suggest

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,024 ✭✭✭SaoPaulo41

After all the fanfare he didn't add anything at all to the team

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,517 ✭✭✭ersatz

sad, but going into these matches without a kicker is insane, and making ten metres from penalties is criminall. These is very basic coaching decisions, you can’t control the ref, you can control territory from opposition indiscipline.

The quarter finals are starting to give me an inkling of what Mayo football fans endure. Ref let a lot go. Thought they should have checked the tackle that the penalty advantage was for when Ireland scored too. And as for the winning try, it was surely punched forward...

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,687 ✭✭✭clsmooth

Hyperbole at 100% I see. Sure you were you the poster saying they were already knocked out as they had to play Fiji after the NZ game. Now they’re ‘chokers’.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,750 ✭✭✭sxt

Not getting to semi finals is engrained in the Irish sporting psyche

It began when 1 million people came out to celebrate ireland losing in the quarter finals in soccer

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,928 ✭✭✭Augme

You'd think some of those big guys would be able to take a restart then.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,770 ✭✭✭CMcsporty

a 7s specialist would and should have been there.

They used Keenan to gather the restarts!
    wtf

I suppose sevens is all about the entertainment but did you hear the Irish lads asking about the knock on and the ref saying "I cant look at it now" like this is before the conversion about 5 seconds after the "try". Like it's just crazy, at least some of the refs would have known it was a knock on but protocol dictates they cannot look.

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,186 ✭✭✭munsterlegend

We were 15 7 up and a scrum in their 22. That was the chance to win match and scrum went backwards and Kennedy kicked it away. After that I knew Fiji would go and win it.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,316 ✭✭✭theVersatile

Sometimes I wish I could just filter out the word "bottle" or "choke" from this place. Typical carry on from some posters tbh.

Agree with FTD, I don't know if people were expecting Keenan to be some kind of 7s superstar but he was far from our biggest problem.

  • Registered Users Posts: 26,095 ✭✭✭✭breezy1985

We held possession for 3 minutes after time was up.

We had possession with 3 minutes to go in normal time. Handing them the ball was most certainly a fuk up and lost a game they were poised to win.

Forget Fiji's record and forget all the ref whinging going on. We lost that game from a winning position.

  • Registered Users Posts: 461 ✭✭Rugbyf565

we were unlucky not to win today but just not good enough in certain select areas— goal kicking, tackling and tackle evasion. The pace of Jordan was definitey missed for the game.

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,186 ✭✭✭munsterlegend

4 years on everyone will be better or worse. We struggle physically and always will against the southern hemisphere teams.

  • Registered Users Posts: 220 ✭✭FtD v2

The exact same people who'd be whooping and hollering if we won this literally couldn't wait to get in here and start piling on the team and slating players.

    It's utterly pathetic.

We lost by a score (a ludicrously contentious score with what looked to be a blatant knock that wasn't reviewed) to the team who have been by far the most impressive side in this tournament, but who are also the dominant force in 7s Olympic history.

Yeah, absolutely players made mistakes (like they literally always will) and things didn't go our favour, but there is still something utterly ridiculous about reading the posts here from people who probably watched their first 7s games in their lives yesterday speaking like experts about it today and Ireland's failings.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,968 ✭✭✭blackcard

We scored the same amount of tries as NZ and Fiji

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,915 ✭✭✭Brian017

Jesus Christ. There's some bitter people in here

They didn't use him to gather the restarts exclusively - you don't know where the opposition are going to kick off to. You separate out as best you can and try to pair up lifters and jumpers.
