    122-2 now

    Zimbabwe 129/2 after 43....

So 2 wickets down and not many runs on the board…interestingly poised.. the bits and pieces I've seen have shown us bowling and fielding well… nice to see a very attacking field for a change, 4 slips

Day 1 but a crucial part of the game…

Zimbabwe will probably be satisfied as things stand to get to stumps around 260/3…260/4 I'm guessing..

McCarthy with both wickets and looking accurate...a maiden as I type including an lbw shout not given..

    Young gets one. 150/3

Wicket ! 167/4. It was a bad delivery but met with a pretty appalling shot. Campher with it.

Much better afternoon and evening for Ireland as Williams edges to Stirling at first slip.

Massive wicket as Williams has been the key batsmen for all the Zimbabwe sides for some time.

    193-5 now.

Wicket ! 193/5…we kinda needed that… good from McBrine

    2 in 2, McBrine on a hattrick !

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,222 ✭✭✭VillaMad

    Crazy shot from Madande.

Looked like a bit of spin off the pitch for the Williams wicket which is interesting for Day 1. Time to give Humphreys a bowl soon, I'd say.

Another wicket with Adair getting Bennett.

    194-7. Big collapse from Zimbabwe.

And another! McBrine gets the edge from Murzabani and Zimbabwe are 198-8 now. 4 wickets for just 5 runs.

Zimbabwe all out for 210. Zimbabwe were at certain points, 97-0, 143-2 and 193-4.

Brilliant bowling from McCarthy and McBrine.

Tricky little session now for the Irish top order before the close of play on day one.

210 all out from 193/4. Prince played well for 74, but his wicket opened the door. Big turnaround from the first session

Ireland bowled extremely well, nicely disciplined but that was some collapse…. See if Ireland can bat for a bit and get to stumps without losing a wicket. That said maybe that is stumps, rain falling, that tenth wicket sure came in a timely fashion about 2 minutes before the covers came on. Heavy downpour it looks like.

Worked out really well as it was getting very gloomy and would not have been ideal at all to play in.

Tomorrows forecast looks like another 4 seasons type day with sunshine and showers, so it could be a lot of stopping and starting.

Ireland should be happy at the end of the first day's play as they dismissed Zimbabwe at 210 in the first innings.

yeah rain coming when it did, it worked out well. Irish players will be that bit extra rested and focused now. Always that worry of starting batting for 30 minutes before close and if you loose 2/3 wickets it’s everybody nervous…. Momentum swings to the opposition.

according to the current forecast for tomorrow the morning should be free of rain interruption. The afternoon looks likely to be badly impacted by showers however. Hopefully that might improve.

Moor off to a flier. 31 and going at a run a ball

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,222 ✭✭✭VillaMad

Ireland 115-2 at lunch and are pretty well placed.

Moor has hit a lovely half-century against his former side but the story of the morning has been the ball absolutely swinging around corners. The Zimbabwe bowlers have failed to control it most of the time with 22 byes already, with Chivanga looking like the only one to be able to control the sharp swing somewhat.

Very, very tough batting conditions despite the score. Raining at the moment, but hopefully not a long interruption.

2 wickets in two balls after lunch + rain delay

Edit - Front foot no ball. Stirling not out

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,222 ✭✭✭VillaMad

Two wickets in two balls from Murzabani has Ireland 5 down.

EDIT: 6 down. Stirling edges to slip, after doing all the hard work staying in against the seamers, he departs to Williams.

189/6 and it's been hard going. 48 extra scored so far. Ireland need a sizeable lead here as the pitch will hardly get better but not much left now.

  • Registered Users Posts: 39,570 ✭✭✭✭KevIRL

V poor from Stirling there. 189,/6

  • Registered Users Posts: 25,473 ✭✭✭✭Strumms

At 165/4 we were looking set for a 280-300 or thereabouts total then … collapse…

189/7 now, be grateful of any sort of lead.

  • Registered Users Posts: 25,473 ✭✭✭✭Strumms

    165/4 → 200/8 and tea…

Sticking to the same old script. 😵

50 for extras, amazingly 79 for Moor. Not much else. In the melting pot

  • Registered Users Posts: 10 Barrett

Glad to see Ireland taking a lead in this first innings. McBrine playing a really useful inning here.

  • Registered Users Posts: 39,570 ✭✭✭✭KevIRL

    Useful runs these from Humphreys

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,222 ✭✭✭VillaMad

Zimbabwe 96/3 at lunch on day 3. They lead by 56 runs.

2 wickets in 2 overs saw off the openers saw Ireland take the first hour, but despite Ervine going for 7, Zimbabwe will be happy enough to have rebuilt to have taken the second hour.

Ireland ahead at the moment you would say but it's all fine margins.

  • Registered Users Posts: 25,473 ✭✭✭✭Strumms

could do with breaking this partnership now. Conservative run rate but….be great if we had only less than 200 to chase.

  • Registered Users Posts: 10 Barrett

Yes, Ireland should be able to chase a target of under 200 without much problem. Anything over 250 can be tricky.

  • Registered Users Posts: 25,473 ✭✭✭✭Strumms

Chivanga retires hurt after taking a blow to the back of the head, he was down and receiving treatment and being evaluated for about 15 minutes but thankfully he got up and walked off the field, but I can’t see him returning to bat so Ireland probably need just one more wicket. Actually he must have passed the medical check but 9 down now anyway

  • Registered Users Posts: 39,570 ✭✭✭✭KevIRL

    158 the target.

    6/3, Jesus wept
