Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

The Dunnes grocery online had a few Christmas stuff in the new in section a few weeks ago but they’ve buried them deeper in the site now. Was exciting to see stuff.

As we come into August a few small items start to appear here and there.

Looking forward to my annual search for Stollen in Lidl. Love the stuff.

Just booked tickets to a Christmas carol concert in the NCH in mid December. First plans made for Christmas. Eeeep. 😁

Back from my hols and back into work :( Tried to bring some sunshine home but failed! Good to see a bit more life in this place though :D

Hope you had a lovely holiday. We are part of a family Whats app group and the talk for the last week has been about booking a big family holiday together in an all-inclusive place for June/July next year.

Bit early for us to make a decision as we don't have young kids so we are not tied down to dates etc, they want to try an all-inclusive place in Bulgaria, has any one ever been over there? Any good?

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,045 ✭✭✭BK5

Finally seeing some decent weather over a weekend and we've hit only 150 days to go on the Countdown 👍️👍️

Brilliant to see a bit of a shake up in the championships. Like, no offence to Dublin or Limerick supporters, but I think it was time for a change! ☺️

  • Moderators, Recreation & Hobbies Moderators Posts: 27,654 Mod ✭✭✭✭Posy

No clue about Bulgaria, but by god, all inclusive is the best thing ever. I had to be rolled down the aisle of the plane home after going all inclusive. 😂

Must make a visit here if im in London

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,517 ✭✭✭✭DvB

100% Posy. Even as a true blue dub it was losing its sparkle, the leinster championship games were awful as people weren't fussed about going, great to see a change at the top.

Had a fair idea it was coming for Dublin but didn't see limerick being toppled, o that was a genuine surprise, delighted for Clare though as they've been the best hurling team for the year and a league/Liam double was well deserved.

How the hell is it August on Thursday. BT Christmas opens in 2/3 weeks - Queue the outrage of "The kids aren't even back in school yet"!

I think it's weird still having the All Ireland's in July.

When they were in September it would be dark in the evening whe Up for the Match was on and their was sometimes a sense of Autumn in the air.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,045 ✭✭✭BK5

We've decided we won't be going. We don't have young kids so would prefer a more chilled holiday. Will miss not going away with the clan mind. The last all inclusive hotel we stayed in was fab alright but the one before it was quite bland and we ended going out to eat a lot so think we finished with all-inclusive. Like to have a walkabout before I decide where to eat.

Not overly keen on checking out Bulgaria as a destination either to be honest.

I'm still not used to the new gaa calendar. It's totally messed up. 1st and 3rd Sundays in September were engraved in the memory.

    Anyway, August on Thursday!

No, the new gaa calendar is bizarre. All Irelands in July is still strange.

I don't think the players are mad about it either.

got a ticket to Ally Pally for the darts, going to the Afternoon session on the 16th Dec, Flights were ok from Dub to London but the price is high enough for the return on the 17th. Ryanair taking advantage of the 'ex pats Christmas visits'

Might even get a Christmas tour when im over there, might be half cut from the darts mind you haha

Just got an e-mail from Wonderlights to say they are expanding to two new venues this year. I know a few from here have been to the one in Malahide Castle before (me included) and I'm not sure anyone was overly impressed, especially for the price.

We’re thrilled to announce that Wonderlights is expanding to THREE locations nationwide this Winter!

Get ready for a uniqueimmersive experience in each of our fabulous venues, showcasing the iconic features of these incredible locations, paired with the stunning displays that make Wonderlights Ireland’s largest and globally award-winning light show experience.

Following on from the huge successes of previous years, we will return to our North Dublin location of Malahide Castle & Gardens for our 4th year. Running from Nov 7th, this magical show promises more wonder and magic to wow all ages!

Get ready to be dazzled and mesmerised in Marlay! Ireland's largest light show is coming to south Dublin as we showcase the beloved Marlay Park by Night. Running from Nov 14th, featuring iconic displays, wondrous installations and magical creatures, get ready to be amazed.

Cork, we're coming for you! We're so excited to bring Wonderlights down south to capture your hearts with our symphony of light and magic. Be prepared to marvel at the magic in the beautiful Gardens and surroundings of Fota House, running from Nov 16th (pending licence)

Loving the Olympics - have my phone propped up with the RTE Player on it with the sound off so that I can watch while working.

Me too but I have the screen off for the moment so I can get some stuff done. Next Irish participant is Rachael Darragh in Badminton at 1pm I think. It'll go back on then 😁

It is autumn! Aug/sept/oct is what I was taught in school and I'll always stick to that irrelevant of what others say.

I went to a new sushi restaurant in Dundrum -Fujiyama- and the food is brought to you by robots that have cat faces. Might just be a gimmick but I loved seeing them zoom around. They're basically fancy tall roombas but they can sing happy birthday!

    Food was lovely aswell.

Can't believe it is August already! This year has flown by!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,007 ✭✭✭antimatterx

Same. To me August 1st was always the start of Autumn I only realised that it officially wasn't a few years ago.

Tbf I get it. The cold weather usually doesn't start until December anyway.

  • Moderators, Recreation & Hobbies Moderators Posts: 27,654 Mod ✭✭✭✭Posy

September in Irish is Meán Fomhair- the middle of Autumn, and October is Deireadh Fómhair- the end of Autumn. Therefore Nov-Jan is the winter, with February being the start of spring.

It just depends if you go by the Irish astrological calendar or the meteorological calendar.

Been done to death in here and iirc we generally agreed that for us August was autumn, so that's that 😉

August and September should just be called 'Going back to school' season

    October is Halloween

Let's call November 'Black Friday Toy Show month

    December is Christmas

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 30,849 ✭✭✭✭freshpopcorn

After the 6th of January should be called "When will it end!"

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 38,930 ✭✭✭✭PTH2009

And feeling envious of the lads down under who's summer is almost over and they have all cosiness til Christmas

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,045 ✭✭✭BK5

Last Bank Holiday till Halloween, which always a strange one after having them more regularly earlier in the year. Have a few bits to get done over the weekend as I'm heading to Spain on Thursday so looking forward to that.

Anyone any plans for the weekend? Hope everyone has a great one whatever they're doing.
