I don't understand why people choose prize bonds. You'd be so much better off with nearly any other investment vehicle. If that money was sitting in a high interest account (4%), you would have made 1K over the last 12 months.

Since this thread started, 25K in Bitcoin would be worth €50M. Even something "boring" like the S&P 500, it would be worth 106K.

“I don't understand why people choose prize bonds.”

Generally speaking it’s because ”people” understand their financial needs far better than you do.

    €75 for me today

    Nothing for me today.

July count, the same 10 million bonds BGK to BGT in each of the 4 draws. Not counting €1K won by BGP on 5th and 19th, and €500 by BGL on 12th and BGR 26th.

Friday 05. 123 prizes. Highest BGR 18. Lowest BGN 7.

    Friday 12. 127. BGN 18. BGL 9

    Friday 19 127. BGK 18. BGT 7.

    Friday 26. 138. BGT 18. BGM 10.

    Highest overall BGS 61 (15,14,15,17). Lowest BGP 45 (9,11,13,12).

    40 million bonds won 515 prizes, average per million 12.875. x 52 x €75 = €50,212.50. Divided by 62.5 to get what €100K would win in a year with the same luck = €803.40. Nearest to 11 x €75.

@dxhound2005 Surprised that the number of prizes/bonds isn't dropping more to be honest. What is the drop since the start of the year ?

    €150 (2 x €75) for me today.

BTW the online PB purchase function is broken since the maintenance/upgrade. No ETA for it becoming available again.

It worked for me around 12 hours ago. Post upgrade I was given around 12 options for source of funds rather than the inheritance/savings options when purchasing pre-upgrade

Nothing in July on €70k,2 wins so far this year, not great.

Interesting. I tried at 10pm last night and again at lunchtime today and both attempts failed with a meaningless error. I was on to State Savings and they asked me to check my debit card (it hadn't got near that stage of processing). Later came back and said they would contact me when the function was fixed and working.

Not trying to be smartarse here but you do know (and no doubt you do) that that 5k with current rate is in one win every two years territory on average.Anyway good luck going forward,👍

The number of €75 prizes started at 9,468 in October 2023. November 9,382. December 9,332.

    January 2024 9,323. February 9,276. March 9,241.

    April 9,215. May 9,172. June 9,124.

    July 9,096. August 9,042.

Looking back at my posts, my estimate of sales using the newest number to win each month was €101.36 million for October, November and December combined. The actual sales from the 2023 Annual Report was €100.368, so it is an accurate method.

The value of the fund at 31 December 2023 was €4.6519 billion. That would be €4.5117 billion now, based on the percentage drop in the number of €75 prizes this year. But on 31 December 2013 the fund was only €1.932 billion. By contrast Savings Certificates were €6.002 billion but 10 years on they were down to €5.661 billion. Prize Bonds took off big time after the Crash, and it is only very recently that their upward trajectory has suffered a small blip.
