Hopefully they start moving on the panels or a few of us will be left disappointed!!

Interesting that early last week 2 were in clearance for 4.3 when I emailed so either the person replying was giving wrong info or someone decided they did not want to be considered anymore..

Hi All, I currently work in a Local Authority at AO level and have been keeping an eye on this thread as I'm very interested in moving across to the Civil Service from Local Govt. Has anyone any advice on what to do to prepare for the probable upcoming AP competition? I've never done a competition organised by PAS. Thanks in advance!

There isn't a whole lot you can do to prepare. But saying that, I would highly recommend reading both this thread and the one from 2020 lots of good advice on what to expect and advice on how to approach the different stages.

Hi - received an update today that there are only 8 ahead of me now for InterD Dublin - I placed 16 so they are moving through this one at a good pace!

Hi @Foxy, are you on Batch 4.2 or 4.3?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 89 ✭✭Foxy1987

4.3 InterD - there are 30 ahead of me on the open as of today also for anyone who is interested in the open only.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 31 Sweeps McKenzie

Okay - good to know. I placed 6th on both Open and InterD on 4.3, so they must have missed me! Having said that, sometimes people on a panel get specially selected for reasons of internal retention (so keeping corporate knowledge etc.) or on account of having a specific professional qualification. I'll try not to take it personally!

I’m 7th on the both in 4.3 and I haven’t heard anything yet. As you say sometimes people get kept etc
Thankfully they do seem to moving along fairly quickly. Which is good news.

This thread and the previous years are really useful.

I’d also look at getting one of the prep packages for the aptitude tests. Once they announce the competition the booklet usually lets you know which company they are using and you’ll be able find a company online that specialises in them for the public service.

OK I think I'm getting wrong info every time I email then if you guys are 6 and 7 and haven't been contacted then it makes no sense... feeling frustrated at this point twice now I've gotten wrong info..

I was confused by that too. As far as I know only 2 have been contacted off the Interdepartmental batch 4.3 at this stage. Is it moving at all………………..

@Foxy1987 don't worry about it. Like I say, there could be some selectivity going on with different Departments for various reasons. Also, whoever you're contacting in PAS may not be clear on which batch they're operating from when they say there are 8 ahead of you on the InterD for example, and/or they may mistakenly think you're in a different batch from the one you're actually on.

With regards to the Open in Dublin, On the 23/07 there was 12 people ahead of me, and 06/08 there was 9, so that still seems to be 1 or 2 a week moving, I'm hoping things might pick up a bit of speed in September with people back from leave in Departments etc 🙏

    Ritournelle, are you panel 4.3?

I am trying to not worry I just see the closing date approaching and hoping the effort wasn't futile! I have been through these comps before not for AP but other grades so I should remember that this is the way it goes 😁

I am emailing this address - +ClearanceMailbox@publicjobs.ie - I have given my Batch No - Candidate ID and Comp Number and this is part of what I received as a reply yest.

"There are approx. 8 candidates ahead of you on the 4.3 Interdepartmental panel to be called for clearance before your position in the order of merit is reached. One the Open panel, there are approx. 30 ahead of you."

I wonder what’s the process for entering clearance. Do you actually get told your in clearence when your on the inter departmental list ? I’m guessing there is a lot less paperwork for those already operating in the civil service.

When I got the HEO role I just got an email from PAS to say I had passed and then another a few weeks later with the department I had been assigned too !

    🤔

Went down in numerical on the 2022 AP campaign...so Ill need to prep too for next one. But i just emailed PAS over the last while and they got back saying they have no plans to run a new AP campaign!

Hi folks, I got my offer from the Dublin Open panel. PAS have advised you get one offer only from the Open panel. My question is if I accept the offer could reapply for the AP panel when advertised again as an internal candidate if still on probation? TIA

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 38 busher07

Hi you should contact PAS and see what your position is now. They shouldn't skip you.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 28 sbtr2023

Ok, thanks a million, I was wondering about the aptitude tests alright.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 89 ✭✭Foxy1987

    Congratulations @Breni great news ☺️

You are eligible to apply for an internal comp once you have 2 years complete in your current grade. You can still apply for the new open/interD comp when it eventually opens also if you want to reapply for a different county etc I know people who were sick waiting for mobility so they applied as a new candidate and got their move that way. Obviously at AP level the jobs are less but you can still do it!

Congratulations again and please keep us updated on your posted and your remote work options 😉

I got an update from PAS this morning and they have gotten to the first 5 on the interdepartmental list in batch 4.3

They also said “For the Open stream, we are still working through candidates in batch 4.1”

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 89 ✭✭Foxy1987

Thanks @Brera - more conflicting info from PAS!

At least it is moving thats the main thing! 😀

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 31 Sweeps McKenzie

@mariagirl, given the amount of conflicting information coming from PAS (if this thread is anything to go by), I wouldn't count out another AP competition in the near future!
