Yep, the whole cabinet has a little thing called "collective cabinet responsibility" so they are all to blame

If I was Mary Butler now or Adam Wyse I would be trying to get this sorted asap. This issue is going to damage FF as they are in government and this project is completely being delayed by Ryan. Greens are finished next election so will FF in Waterford unless the airport is sorted. Time for them to speak up for Waterford.

But Waterford airport isn't in a super convenient spot for the rest of the south east , and realistically you need the whole of the south east population to make it a worth while proposition ..

Neither is Dublin Airport for the whole country.. It's at the wrong side of Dublin to make it convenient for the whole country

As per google maps right now, traveling by car. (Can't believe we are doing this AGAIN)

    Kilkenny →Waterford Airport (48 minutes)

Wexford → Waterford Airport (62 minutes)

Carlow → Waterford Airport (62 minutes)

    Gorey →Waterford Airport (80 minutes)

    Clonmel →Waterford Airport ( 56 minutes)

The above times are fairly convenient, the times above would include parking the car and add an extra 60-90 second walk to the check-in desks, that is fairly convenient compared to the alternatives.

Take Kilkenny → Dublin Airport Red Car Park as an example, it is 85 minutes, wait for coach, then coach to terminal adding on at least 10 minutes extra there brings you to 105 minutes which is almost an hour saving using Waterford, that's 2 hours on a round trip, I know which option is the more convenient option above.

You are also only looking at it from Irish people looking to go abroad, what about people looking to come to Ireland.

You can now market the South East directly by flying into the south East, setting a base there and exploring the area.

I would disagree, it's basically connected to the m9, you cross the new bridge, out the bypass, turn at the airport round about and it's 4 or 5 minutes to the airport,no need to go through the city at all,

You could drive from the m50 all the way to the airport on dual carriage way road and the only single carriage would be the 4 to 5 minutes from the airport roundabout in Waterford to the airport

Dead right , and theres an element of "we are where we are " with Waterford airport , but Waterford doesn't have the established "mass" or the road Network/ bus network ect ..

This is soul destroying to be back here debating travel times. We are the only region not connected by air. We pay the same tax as the rest of the country yet don’t receive the same infrastructure. This project is being actively delayed by the Green agenda and by Eamonn Ryan in the driving seat. A few flights from WAT is not going to cause the end of the world. We need to stop accepting this crap from government.

Road Network? Have you travelled to Waterford Airport, connected via the M9 and N25, dual carriageway by pass all the way to the airport road, which is then probably a 5-8 minute drive on a fairly decent single lane carriageway, what more do you want from a road point of view?

The airport is only 10km from the bus and train station in Waterford so while not ideal that it has no bus network it is fairly easy to get to Waterford via bus/rail and a short taxi spin to the airport.

The size of Dublin airport and it doesn't even have train connection!

If Waterford was to retain flights and numbers increased you would see a bus route factored in as it would make logical sense. I presume any airport would need X amount of passengers before being serviced by public transport as it needs to be viable.

That said regarding buses even bus networkers from Kerry and knock Airports are mainly town routes which go to the airport. As in it's not possible to get a direct bus from a town directly to the airport bar the nearest town obviously.

Taking cork as an example I cannot get a direct bus from Waterford to cork airport, I need to take three buses to get there at a time of over 3 hours.

The annoying this with all this is, we had Leo as Taoiseach and Simon now as Taoiseach state how much of a benefit this would be for the region, if they believed their own words then just deliver it.

Interestingly in the Taoiseach's most recent response to Matt Shanahan be stated how they were committed to Waterford in delivery the funding for SETU, increased medical services but never mentioned the airport.

All talk and no action as usual. As I previously said, either deliver it or have the balls to come and say, from a government point of view, we don't want to fund or deliver this, rather than dragging people along.

…this statement more accurately describes whats happening here, ffg have an astonishing 'talent' of directing public anger and frustration towards their government partners, leading to less pointed towards them, its one hell of a tactic, and it works!

    …ffg control the purse!

The Munster Express reporting that the DoT have sent their initial assessment to Ryan for his review and Ryan's consideration is expected the end of August.

I'd expect him to have further questions seeing as they state this is an "initial assessment" he'll push back they'll seek more information, back and forth back and forth.

Surely this decision has to be made eventually, they cannot keep kicking the can indefinitely
