The sixth member of the Wyatts is the most disturbing of them all: love

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,240 ✭✭✭ThePott

Excellent Raw again, there's so much going on it's awesome.

The Dom/Liv/Rhea story is great. I feel like there's a lot of ways this can play out. It does feel like the Judgement Day (or at least in its current form) is on borrowed time cause I can see Dom turning on Rhea or Finn and JD siding with Liv. The custody of Dom match might still have a chance based on Rhea's last line lol. Jey getting involved now too.

That Rowan promo was awesome, outside of Bray he's the emotional core of the group and him saying 'I'm just Rowan' was so sad. Thought their in-ring segment was good too and getting the Creeds to finally align with Gable works too. Wonder if we could get a six man at Summerslam.

I think that segment should have actually main evented if Bron was going to get involved. Although this might build to a three way at Summerslam which would be good. Drew and Punk for an unsanctioned match? Card in general is shaping up nicely. Gunther/Damian was great too. Damian is definitely a face right now and Gunther's 'homeless is a choice' response made him seem a right arsehole.

Definitely feel Dom is turning on Rhea at Summerslam to complete the full villain character. He not as "dirty" as he once was so this should sort that Too soon for Liv to drop the title, maybe we get Dom v Rhea on the following PPV

  • Moderators, Social & Fun Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 52,759 Mod ✭✭✭✭Necro

Yeah Rhea chasing the title for a few months seems the best option imo

Even up to Mania possibly depending on how much they can eke out of the story

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 88,343 ✭✭✭✭JP Liz V1

I hope not Liv as champ until WM, while this storyline is grand, I can't wait for Rhea to eradicate her .

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,434 ✭✭✭✭CastorTroy

Seeing Liv and Rhea fighting over Dom is like an episode of Jerry Springer, especially with Dom's mullet and moustache. You're left wondering how 2 women that look like them are fighting over a guy that looks like that.

Priest is getting great enjoyment from it.

I can't see them doing a video for all the Wyatts. Especially Dexter since it would go on forever since he never shuts up.

But at last they bring the Creeds and Gable together. Could work well. Ivy in there as well to counter Nikki?

Funny that Maxxine still calls Otis "Otees"

Is Carlito to TJD what Sami was to The Bloodline, his expressions are "cool" and funny

    Bully Ray on the Busted Open Radio podcast;

I’m like ‘Why would they be coming through Gorilla? They left people for dead in the Gorilla position. We thought that Chad Gable…people were saying they shot him in the head. Bodies dismembered. Lists of people that got hurt by the Wyatt Sicks…they didn’t destroy the locker rooms, they didn’t destroy the production truck, they didn’t destroy Triple H’s office, they didn’t destroy catering…they destroyed the Gorilla’s position…”

I totally agree with him. I loved the Wyatt Sicks debut but the follow through hasn’t been quite there. Coming through Gorilla made no sense.

I also mentioned it recently here but Nikki Cross and the others really need to stay off social media. She’s continuously posting on her Instagram. Like I know it’s 2024 but a little bit of kayfabe wouldn’t go amiss.

  • Moderators, Social & Fun Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 52,759 Mod ✭✭✭✭Necro

Yeah those small nuances do take you out of it. A lot to be said for the Undertaker approach, it's why his supernatural character survived the test of time as opposed to other gimmicks.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,240 ✭✭✭ThePott

    Agreed.

In general why I'm enjoying the VHS tapes and promos, they haven't exactly lived up to the murderous monsters they came off as in their debut. It almost feels like they're doing this backwards.

It also kinda sidelined (or at least took focus away from) the Alpha Academy storyline and I think that was one o the best stories they had on Raw.

Agreed they probably should have done it the other way around ..VHS tapes and then destruction..just a bit odd that they destroyed wrestlers and then nothing after

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 18,471 Mod ✭✭✭✭DM_7

How to you follow that beginning? It was so over the top they probably decided way to follow it up by cool things off and building it back up.

They stripped it back to video, showed Howdy and Bo are one, started introducing the people behind the masks. No has actually appeared as himself without seeing Howdy since the mad into. They are building up to that again I guess.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,187 ✭✭✭Ridley

I bolieve the idea the lingering threat of when they'll do something again knowing what they're capable of.

I'm assuming they're introducing the Sicks one by one to allow them to have a match without having to be in a pig mask or whatever.

Can't help feeling that all this should be being done to Strowman instead of Gable.

  • Moderators, Social & Fun Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 52,759 Mod ✭✭✭✭Necro

Yeah the Gable targeting doesn't really fit. And as was said a few posts ago, it's kinda robbed us of a big Gable/Otis pay off. Would be a much better fit with Strowman given the history. Also the fact that Strowman would be physically more dominant than any of the group (bar Rowan I suppose) so could handle two or possibly three taking him on.

I get the feeling they're just not high on Braun anymore though, he's basically been a big ass jobber since coming to Raw.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 384 ✭✭Petermc83

regarding Strowman.. the run and spear that Bron Breakker does & the camera angle is fantastic.. but please stop Strowman from doing it also. I know he had the move first ( shoulder charge instead of the spear) but I feel if they both keep doing it, it lessens the impact.

    Good Raw on the whole.

Bo using the Sister Abigail was great and got a big reaction, there's life in this story yet but they still need to speed things up a bit. The Nikki tape was nothing and means we'll have at least two more tapes of probably nothing before we get a match.

Bron vs Sami again is good although I wonder what they will do to differentiate it from their match at CATC, right now it feels like they just wanted it to be a coronation at Summerslam, which is fine but feel like we need something more out of it. Also interesting that Sami and Jey pinned Balor and JD, wonder if Sami might drop the IC and chase the tag belts with Jey. Could also make sense to team them up if they might one day join a face Bloodline together.

Gunther getting crazy heat and just leaning into it, the feud with Damian feels really charged out of nowhere and that was needed, gonna be a banger. Also Balor/Gunther next week is class, since we never got that NXT Takeover Dublin match.

Punk/Drew confirmed with Seth as ref. Not sure it'll be the most satisfying finish as a result. Just hoping Punk doesn't get injured once again immediately.

Liv/Rhea/Dom is surely gonna be Dom turning on Rhea. It seems obvious but I don't know, it feels like it's going that way.

Lot of build for Summerslam on this one and didn't love it as much as recent Raws but still a lot of good progression.

  • Moderators, Social & Fun Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 52,759 Mod ✭✭✭✭Necro

I'd say that Seth is there to take a few bumps Punk might not be able for yet. I was very disappointed in the finish to Bron/Dragunov, feels a bit meh there wouldn't be any shame in Dragunov taking the pin really. At least we're still getting something from the Gable/Otis split, wouldn't mind a match at SummerSlam tbh.

Female shield are lame. Absolutely zero charisma in Stark or Baszler. Also I know Liv can't have it all her way but it seemed a bit odd that segment, especially with Livs terrible attempts at pretending to cry 🤣

Gunther and Priest is going to be a banger mind you.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,035 ✭✭✭Officer999

Yep Dom definitely turning on Rhea. Real Eddie vibes with the Spanish.

If he got heat before, it’s gonna be nuclear after he does that. The crowd absolutely adore Rhea.

Punk looks juiced to the gills, guessing he is no longer straight edge.

    Regards,

I don't want Lyra to lose momentum, as on a role since the move to Raw and what's the end game with Sonya's group, take out all the females, go for a main title and tag titles? Liv has the Rhea feud and as for the current tag champs who knows

    Otis is very over

I hope Damien retains at Summerslam, himself and Rhea are pretty much faces now

Overall a decent build for Summerslam

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,386 ✭✭✭Cotts72

I don't mind Basler, in NXT they built her as an unbeatable monster ...Stark I've just never seen any upside with, just very bland

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,434 ✭✭✭✭CastorTroy

Still waiting for them to do something with Kiana.

Noticed Ivy wasn't out with the Creeds. Maybe she'll be trying to make some peace if she's still friends with Maxxine.

Yeah, Dom's turning on Rhea. Did find it funny that Dom mentions seeing Rhea interacting with Jey on social media, but missed the fact she got married recently.

I'd say Bron will win this time, unless Sami's helped somehow.

Did they mess up the Special Ref announcement?

  • Registered Users Posts: 498 ✭✭Pinkman

Very disrespectful to not give Rollins a proper match at Summerslam. You'd have to wonder why he returned from his injury when he did without a proper plan. He's have been better off waiting till after Summerslam.

  • Moderators, Social & Fun Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 52,759 Mod ✭✭✭✭Necro

I wonder if he's still carrying a knock actually seeing as they didn't give him a proper match. But it's much more likely he's in the McIntyre Punk match to take a few bumps instead of Punk imo... Who is very very fragile these days.

Gunther vs. Finn in the go home show before Summerslam

  • Moderators, Business & Finance Moderators, Recreation & Hobbies Moderators Posts: 25,120 Mod ✭✭✭✭Loughc

Pointless seeing as Finn has jobbed to the entire raw roster at this stage.

Cries while looking at his old NXT UK Takeover: Dublin tickets

    What could have been.

    The chops were wild.

So the Howdy/Gable match will be at Bad Blood or Bash in Berlin or just some random Raw? Did I miss him figuring out Sister Abigail's identity? I need to know who it is and only Chad can solve the mystery!

It's funny how we now have 3 women's trios yet none of them are going for the tag titles.

Hope Liv retains, likely through Dom, either accidentally or on purpose.

You'd think something like that would be a rite of passage, something a young up-and-comer would put themself through as a test against a gatekeeping veteran, but there's Finn (one of the best in the world) putting his body through that punishment on a random Monday night. Mad.

  • Moderators, Social & Fun Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 52,759 Mod ✭✭✭✭Necro

Aye, sure look at Sheamus too he never leaves the ring without marks of some sort. Different breed the Irish😂

  • Moderators, Social & Fun Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 52,759 Mod ✭✭✭✭Necro

I dunno about this addition of Rollins as guest ref. It does fit storyline wise but it's all very clunky since Adam Pearce tried the apology stuff with Drew a few weeks back. The match will still be fine I'm sure but it's lost a heck of a lot of momentum since MITB. There's long term booking and then there's this 'ok lads we've heard the same stuff for 7 months now, please let's get it done and move on'.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 653 ✭✭✭Gary_dunne

They're definitely going to do a somewhat recreation of Summerslam 97 when it was Undertaker vs Hart with Michaels as guest ref.

Rollins will be arguing with Drew goes to hit/stomp him and somehow takes out Punk instead giving Drew the win.

Keeps Punk vs Drew going as Punk can claim he didn't lose fairly, furthers the hatred between Rollins and Punk setting up a match at Bad Blood.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 88,343 ✭✭✭✭JP Liz V1

Will Punk get his bracelet back from Drew tonight

First Raw I've watched through in ages, but that was great.

Pushed a tonne of new stars and stories. Reed looked like an absolute monster. Jones calling himself Big O to cause tensions in New Day was a nice touch.

The Judgement Day stuff is absolutely gold. The shot of everyone behind Finn was great, the crowd were super hot for the entire story all night. It's massively elevated everyone involved.

And shout out to JD who had a stunning showing, imo. Bumped like a bastard for Priest, and in a way that made Priest look amazing.

    Brilliant episode.

  • Moderators, Business & Finance Moderators, Recreation & Hobbies Moderators Posts: 25,120 Mod ✭✭✭✭Loughc

Great episode indeed summerslam felt like a mini-reset reserved for mania but the Wyatt sicks thing… what’s the endgame here. I’m already bored of their presentation it looks all samey already.

The unknown factor on them gone already. And leaning too much into the supernatural stuff as opposed to unhinged out for revenge cult mercenaries.

And are they finally going to break up the new day. Woods didn’t seem too thrilled to see Jones.

The way they shifted from horror to glee, back to horror was hilarious.

6 is such a weird number. Like…3 is the magic number in terms of story telling. 4 and 5 were great at adding more stuff, but a sixth just moved the needle over into epic territory, lol

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,240 ✭✭✭ThePott

One of the best Raws, maybe ever. There's so much to praise it's hard to know where to start. The crowd were amazing too.

Gunther/Randy seemed super random until the KOTR callback, love it. Gunther is gonna be a great champ.

The New Judgement Day totally works and it went back to feeling more serious and sinister than it has of late. Damian and Rhea are over like rover and this is only going to boost them higher. Priest especially looks a star right now (never would have called it tbh). The day Rhea hits a move on Dom the place will explode. JD needs praise for his selling too.

Punk/Seth will be a great feud but keeping the Drew story going while Seth can feud with Bronson is a good way to prolong it. Reed doing that many tsunamis was hilarious and looked devastating, totally reheated him with ease as a monster.

Odyssey Jones is someone I forgot about, never saw him in NXT. Jesus Christ. That double slam alone got him over (even if there was a little bit of AOP walking into it). Kross influencing Woods and then 'Big O' coming in definitely feels like catalyst for a break up story. I know they've said it will never happen but who knows if Big E ever comes back and New Day have nothing left to do at this stage, this is the most interesting they have been in ages.

I thought the Wyatt Sicks stuff delivered, more than expected. That entrance and the full theme was powerful and I like Bo and Nikki sitting at ring side. The Wyatt stuff often didn't deliver in-ring and I think this time it did. Lumis especially did an excellent job and has a great look. This thing could have legs if they do it right. Still need a bit more sadistic violence from them I think though given their debut. The tributes to Brodie and Bray were nice too. Anyone think a feud between Judgement Day could happen, they did just turn on their 'family'.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 88,343 ✭✭✭✭JP Liz V1

I forgot Oyssy Jones was even still with WWE

    'Get down from there'

Years ago 'Rusev get down from there'

Alright Raw, not a patch on last week's Raw though.

The Dom/Liv/Rhea story has such heat. I liked Rhea's promo even if it didn't sell the emotional side of the betrayal like I expected. Damian teaming with Rhea for a mixed tag is a great call too, to keep Liv/Rhea apart till presumably Bad Blood.

New Day with Odyssey Jones story is good. Match set up for next week is interesting to tease a break-up. Final Testament got booed at least, still find it odd they have Paul Ellering (and even Scarlett) and he's not talking or acting like a manager.

Whoever came up with Pure Fusion Collective needs to find a new job, horrendous name. Although good to see the women's tag titles getting some shine.

The Miz/Truth segment was funny and Bronson is getting over with the tsunami onslaught, it's great.

Bron and Sami was a good main event with an obvious result. Guessing Sami and Jey go for the tag titles now.

I do like the mixing of stories with Punk/Drew and Randy/Gunther. Think American Made has potential and Ivy joining in too to match Alpha Academy. Pete Dunne and Sheamus could have potential.

It was fine and built a lot but it and of itself wasn't the most exciting of Raws.

  • Moderators, Social & Fun Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 52,759 Mod ✭✭✭✭Necro

The whole Judgment Day split has been the making of stars in Liv, Dom and Priest. Rhea was already on another level but it's brought them up alongside her now, the crowd are so into it. It's hard to know where this resolves though as it won't be possible to keep the momentum going till Mania without a payoff of some description.

In terms of Liv though Rhea badly needed something like this as throughout her own reign she was so far above anyone she faced the result was a foregone conclusion. Now, not so much with Liv which is great for the women's division.
