Re-hanging a gate

Those gates were supposed to swing inwards. Because of its position relative to the piers it'll still only be 90 degrees though. Will this help your case I wonder? Perhaps worth getting the local automatic gates installer a try.

That will work.

The gates will still have the appearance of being automated which is something of a security device in itself.

Are you 100% sure you don't want automated gates ? They provide great peace of mind.

If the motor box isn't tanked right the water gets in and that's it.

You could always go for rams if u change your mind.

Ok, well you'd have to cut that bracket off and get a new one fitted that would bolt on like the one at the bottom.

You could then rehang the gates higher to clear the slope opening inwards too.

I might be wrong but it looks backwards . Gates should open inwards and the sensor should be on the outside of the gate . Unless there are a double set of sensors on the outside I would imagine they are a safety issue . No expert here . Just used of fixing my own then wires get corroded .

It would be better if you rehang on the back/uphill corner and open it inwards.

You can off-set the bottom hinge so the gate tilts up to clear the higher ground. If it's offset at the correct angle the gate will be upright when open.

Complete pain in the hole to move them, if it's your first rodeo forget it.

Gates not galvanized and rusting, they will break your heart sanding and painting.

OP Example of rising hinges in Link below. The Ebay ones look like they would allow the gates to open inward and maybe at more than 90 degrees. The gates would still look aesthetically correct in between the pillars.

This is an affordable and quick solution to your you initial question. There is obviously the cost of getting someone to fit them if this is not in your wheel house.

They can be automated at a later date with a Ram type system. Or a complete change to a sliding system as others have suggested.

Thats it yes. one part is welded to the gate and the bottom is connected to the motor linkage both share the pivot point . it is to allow the gate to be opened in the event of a power cut or fault.
