just looked back & seen that 262 candidates were assigned from the 2022 HEO panel. So really after shortlisting/interviews you’d want to be in the first few hundred to be offered a position?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 439 ✭✭skidmarkoner

I'm guessing first 600 is a safe bet to get called to interview in Dublin anything after is risky in the short time they gave this comp its only slight over 12 months of interview before it begin to close and they give up calling us.

the shortlisting is based on wether you hit all the buzzwords that they are looking for in a HEO, I’ve been advised that it doesn’t matter what OOM we’ve received for the tests, could be no 1 and still be eliminated at shortlisting stage.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 59 ✭✭Aabbccdd

oh the suspense!! It’s mad they didn’t indicate a timeframe or anything for shortlisting

I was thrilled to get the good news yesterday that I passed, now it's like that news was just a tease and the pain of waiting to see if I made the cut starts again. These competitions really are a test of patience and positivity. The self doubt is the worst part🙄

Anyone know if you pass the shortlisting is it a combination of your online test scores and shortlisting score gives you your new OOM or do you just get a new OOM based on the shortlisting score?

Does anyone know the total amount of people that participated in this competition?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 511 ✭✭✭gestappo

as per the other comments above, I’ve read the first 14 pages of the previous HEO InterD comp and quite a few people were eliminated completely due to their form not ticking all the required boxes.

Where did people find out that only so many got assigned from the last comp?

Selection Process12. The selection process for this competition will comprise a number of elements. These mayinclude one or more of the following:• Completion of an online Assessment Questionnaire.• Online and/or paper-based assessment test(s).• Shortlisting of candidates on the basis of the information supplied in their application.• Asynchronous interview(s);• A competitive preliminary interview(s).• Interview(s) / Online Video Interview(s).• Presentation/Analysis exercise.• Group/Team exercise.• Work sample test.• Any other tests or exercises that may be deemed appropriate, including language proficiencytests.Applicants must successfully compete and be placed highest, in order to be considered foradvancement to the next stage of the multi-stage selection process. The number to be invitedforward at each stage will be determined from time to time by the Public Appointments Service. You may only sit the various stages of the selection process once.ShortlistingThe number of applications received for a position generally exceeds that required to fill existingand future vacancies. While a candidate may meet the eligibility requirements of the competition,if the numbers applying are such that it would not be practical to interview everyone, the PublicAppointments Service may decide that a smaller number will be invited to the next stage of theselection process. The Public Appointments Service provide for the employment of a shortlistingprocess to select a group who, based on an examination of the application forms, appear to bethe most suitable for the position. This is not to suggest that other candidates are necessarilyunsuitable or incapable of undertaking the job, rather that there are some candidates, who basedon their application, appear to be better qualified and/or have more relevant experience. Duringshortlisting, an expert board will examine the application forms against agreed shortlistingcriteria which are based on the requirements of the position. The standard of content of eachapplication submitted may also be assessed during this process. The shortlisting criteria mayinclude both essential and desirable criteria specified for the position and, it is therefore in yourown interest to provide a detailed and accurate account of your qualifications/ experience in yourapplication. The onus is on candidates to complete the application form fully and accurately. In the case of competitions that may involve large numbers of candidates, candidates may beranked on the outcome of their online assessment tests and will be shortlisted in accordancewith their ranking. Applicants must successfully compete and be placed highest, to beconsidered for advancement to the next stage of the multistage selection process. The numberto be invited forward at each stage will be determined from time to time by the PublicAppointments Service.

Anyone have a vague/rough idea on how long shortlisting will take? Placed 8th in OOM for my location.

Think I covered off a decent bit of the HEO competencies in my app form but conscious now that I see you can be eliminated based on the app form.

    This is from the circular from this compeition;

A breakdown of the number of Higher Executive Officer candidates assigned from panels across locations in the recent HEO 2020 and HEO 2022 competitions can be viewed here.

    Panel_Assignments_HEO_2020_2022.pdf (publicjobs.ie)

Please note, this is not a prediction of future demand for Higher Executive Officer vacancies from Government Departments/Offices, across the locations. Information is correct at time of Circular 07/2024 issuing 9th May 2024

PAS do not give this information out until after the competition has finished and panel expired

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 511 ✭✭✭gestappo

Thanks for this, very little got through it seems

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 24 prin2023

So am I correct in saying, our current OOM is going to be replaced with an OOM based only off the form?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 54 ✭✭Pickysue

    It’s just from the shortlisting

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 191 ✭✭CivilCybil

It really makes for depressing reading for anyone outside of Dublin!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4 CS2022

Absolutely. Any chance of spreading some of the Dublin vacancies via hybrid / remote work / some form of renewed decentralisation?

Is there a way to find out the number of applicants for the 2022 HEO competition, as well as the number of candidates eliminated at each stage and those not reached before the competition closed?

Thanks a mil for this info. Can I ask what your OOM for Cork was following Stage 1 results? Just wondering how high they go in OOM for the initial Shortlisting.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 191 ✭✭CivilCybil

Also thought it was very unfair that we could only pick one county.

I'm within an hour's drive of two other large cities. And I can easily commute to places like Galway, Athlone and Dublin on the train/Motorway so if I was only in the office 1 or 2 days it would be fine.

I would definitely have easily taken another one or two counties but was confined to just one option. Ridiculous when Ireland is such a small country and most people are hybrid working now.

I'm afraid to open this new message from Public Jobs - what's the bets they messed up in their calculations?

For the EO Comp previously, I got three different scores following the assessments

Tts annoying alright it was like they changed everything on this competition

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 74 ✭✭Gillouise

I was terrified getting that message - it's just a table with qualifying scores.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 59 ✭✭Aabbccdd

Its only feedback and info on the average score of all applicants.🤣 my heart

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 253 ✭✭Flaker

It's just breaking down the scores of the tests. I am in the bottom third and according to the breakdown am literally at the very bottom of that. I'm in the 240s but there are people with lower scores who have said they have passed too so I'm not sure how accurate it can be lol.

Im in top 3rd for maths middle third for verbal but close to top of that but my oom is high 400s 🤷‍♂️

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 191 ✭✭CivilCybil

I was in top third for numerical and just shy of top third for verbal which is annoying the perfectionist over achiever in me 😂

My heart though when I got the message. Thought it was going to be a "we looked at your application form and you're out!"

This process would put years on you.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9 MidnightOil

Was there a message on the results yesterday that you would now be forwarded for shortlisting?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 253 ✭✭Flaker

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 253 ✭✭Flaker

Oh sorry I read it all wrong 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 I'm in the top third for both lol. I'm such a dope I don't know how I passed at all 😆😆

Expecting about 3 or 4 weeks for shortlisting going off previous comps.

In 2019, I placed top 50 after tests but was eliminated based on the form.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 430 ✭✭lucat

I'm the opposite. Group A for verbal and the middle of B for numerical and my oom is 300's. I'm guessing verbal might have been given more weight than numerical in determining the OOM.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 430 ✭✭lucat

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 296 ✭✭JennyZ

It's average scores for all locations combined though, not per location. I'm high in the middle batch for both tests and oom in the 700's, Dublin.

cannot see on the information booklet how the weight was attributed between performance on verbal and numerical

One liner stating did not demonstrate evidence of required standard in X competency. I asked for more detail and was told no.

I contacted PAS this afternoon asking when will receive stage 2 results(shortlisting based on application form).

    This was their response:

"Candidates will be brought through shortlisting in order of merit per location choice as vacancies arise.

Results will then issue to candidates accordingly."

Surprised how well I did on the numerical reasoning, was expecting to have failed it. Placed in low 300s. Any idea how many they bring forward in batches for interviews or timeframe? Possibly interview by end of year or early 2025?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 175 ✭✭2016claire

Good evening, everyone. Best of luck to all who passed the test. Please, God, I hope you all pass the interview, get through, and get placed. I’m sorry for those who didn’t pass the test—I’m afraid I’m one of them. I did very well in maths but struggled with the verbal section. Does anyone remember any of the verbal questions, or does anyone know of a site where I can practice? I didn’t practice at all, and I completely forgot that we weren’t timed, so I didn’t read the questions properly. Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

    Best wishes,
    Claire

I got higher third on numerical and lower third on verbal, placed low 600's for Dublin.

I remember not being able to answer 'true' to any of the verbal ones, they were all 'false' or 'cannot say' for me which I knew couldn't be right but I should have taken more time - I probably rushed it more than I needed to.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 430 ✭✭lucat

Why is that relevant? I didn't mention anything about location.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,926 ✭✭✭✭fritzelly

Same for me - and I usually do ok on the verbal

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 296 ✭✭JennyZ

I think some posters above were querying average scores released today versus OOMs quoted on here, and that it didn't tally, the averages were based on countrywide not location, so hence the confusion, OOM's would not be relative across locations. Sorry should have quoted first person.
