Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Elaborate Revolut scam call

I got a call yesterday claiming they were from Revolut ( person not the usual machine voice ) and they said they have noticed a fraud transaction and wanted me to confirm if I had initiated it or not. When I checked how do I know if this is a genuine call, the person said , well I'm not asking for any personal details , all you have to do is confirm if the transaction is real or not , so that we can allow or block it. So I asked them to block it as I didn't initiate it . Then they asked me to open the Revolut app and freeze my card to avoid further fraud transactions. Once that was done, the call got transferred to another person, who then asked me to add a recipient with my own name but with an account number that they were providing as that was needed to get the refund back for this fraud transaction . That didn't sound right, so I cut the call saying that I'll call them back .

I reported it to Revolut and they confirmed that it was indeed a scam and they didn't make the call. Revolut confirmed that they have conducted a security check and advised to change my passcode. I had used face id rather than passcode to open the app while I was on the call , so hoping that the scammers haven't got any further access to my account.

Posting this here as the initial set of actions of the call is very similar to what you'd get from a genuine bank fraud section , where you'll be asked to confirm if you initiated a particular transaction or not when they suspect a fraud and if you confirm that you didn't, they'll block that transaction and then advise you to cancel that card and request a new card. So I'm guessing that part was to gain your trust to get you to proceed to the next stage. Pls be aware.

I would insist that they give me some detail about my account, otherwise it has to be a phishing call. I see they way they brushed off the OP's concern - by pointing out that they were not asking for personal details. They then asked him to add a new payee using an account number supplied by them - big red flag!

You say you hope that the scammers 'haven't got any further access to my account'. It sounds from your report that they didn't get any access to your account.

I'd question the description of this as an 'elaborate' scam. When you boil it down, it simply involves a call from a stranger: 'Hello, you don't know me but I'd like you to transfer money to me'.

I got that call and strung them along for awhile, until I got bored. I don't have a Revolut account.

From the amount of scam calls I get from Revolut, and the reports from the media about their poor customer service, no way in the world will I ever sign up for an account with them.

Whatever about their poor customer service, it's not Revolut which is behind those scam calls.

The prevelance of scammers claiming to be calling from Revolut is simply a reflection of how successful the company is, especially in Ireland.

Your experience and that of others (see post #3) shows that, with or without a Revolut account, you'll still get those calls.
