    I agree,

When we played with an aggressive style against Offaly in the U20 final of 2023, that team were accused as bullys and using dirty tactics. There was nothing said about Clare then the last day, they were bullys and using dirty tactics to win the game. See when Horgan was taking a free and Conor Leen stood right on the ball so that Horgan couldn't take a fast one. Dirty tactics. I just can't wait to see them beaten next time we owe it to them going forward.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,082 ✭✭✭lukin

Yes we did bully Offaly a bit that day but we were clever about it. Our backs took it in turns to foul Adam Screeney so that they would just get a yellow. He wasn't fouled by anyone on a yellow because they knew they would then get a second one and be sent off. Maybe our players were instructed along those lines before the game.
If the seniors were a bit more cute like that last Sunday we might be All-Ireland champions now. Sometimes you have to just take the yellow but you have to do it before the opponent gets too close to the penalty area or else you risk a black card and/or a penalty. The rules are a bit more lax in this area at U20, you can get away with more.
I am not condoning fouling but look, if you can't beat them, join them.
The only thing we got away with in that U20 game was when Shane Kingston took out the Offaly lad with a shoulder to the head (see below). He was very lucky not see red for that.
    The Offaly manager had a bit of a moan about it afterwards but he admitted Cork were the better side;

    Dirty tactics/bullys is a stretch.

Clare always play a physical game. There is rarely a game where one of the backs don't get a yellow - but name a game in recent history where a player gets sent off for Clare?

The playing on the edge was mainly fine tuned for their Limerick games. Limerick play a very physical game too.

Cork should have prepped for the physicality that they knew Clare would bring.

Cork played very clever and skilfully against Limerick but they showed their hand and gave Clare opportunity to plan and prepare for that.

I agree with you saying that Cork should have known what Clare were going to bring to the game. And Clare knew what to expect too from Cork.

Is there anywhere I can see a full replay of that final?

It doesn't seem to be on TG4 sport channel!

Not what you asked for I know but there’s highlights on YouTube.

I'm saying this about myself as much as anyone else, but ever since the full time whistle blew in the 2006 all Ireland final, we've spent the last eighteen going on nineteen years since giving out and moaning about other teams being too tough and physical for us.

I'd say other counties see us now as a bunch of Walter the softies who don't like it when the going gets tough and dirty. It's up to the players themselves to change these perceptions people have of them.

Obviously refereeing and the application or in last Sunday's case non application of the rules is a serious issue, but when a team wants to wage war with us we need to adapt accordingly. There is times when you quite simply just have to earn the right to play.

Following up on the other poster referencing YouTube. First one is full game on RTE and second is BBC. Not sure how long they’ll stay up for.

The thumbnail for the BBC one really shows up the red over the yellow. Some great games were had this year even if the outcome wasn’t the best.

For most part I totally agree. We need develop a strong mental attitude.

I think they will come again, fix a few things in defence and few new u20 players and I think we will be right in the mix again. The hurt will have to motivate them, they know they are not far away at all. We go again.

Regarding Johnny Murphy, I heard from a reliable source that he was carrying a hamstring injury into the final.

RTE completely screwed up their coverage of the jubilee of the 1999 team last Sunday. Here is the full presentation of the team to the crowd here.

It's a fair bit away at the current moment in time, but i'd like to see the team have a serious crack at winning the league next year. We haven't won it in almost thirty years after all. We also need to learn how to cope better in those situations like in the all Ireland final, when the referee has swallowed his whistle and the game has descended into a free for all.

Serious credit though to Pat Ryan and the players, it was a serious effort to turn the ship around after those two defeats to Waterford and Clare, and a couple of poor refereeing calls or non calls denied us the opportunity of having another crack at Clare in a replay. I wouldn't say we were robbed of victory but we were robbed of the opportunity of having a draw and a replay at the very least imo.

    Disastrous appointments for cork hurling

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,124 ✭✭✭windy shepard henderson

that jersey pull will still be talked about in 30 years time , and to be fair if it was a replay it would have made for an even more interesting game , clare would have been definitely without conor cleary for that game , and for the two weeks leading up to the replay we would be destroying david Fitzgerald for nearly shooting ten wides in the final

it should have been a free and a replay , everyone agrees on that for sure , the attitude with a lot of clare people though is less forgiving , most will point you in the direction of the 1998 semi final debacle , the 08 munster u21 final , or the munster final last year where tony kelly was fouled in similar circumstances and no free and game over , and say its about time we got a break ….its nothing against cork all the same

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,141 ✭✭✭Straight Talker

Oh we have to move on from it and Clare of course were that bit better and more experienced a team as well. I'm hopeful that unlike 2013 this years final appearance was not a flash in the pan. Limerick of course will be eager to prove that they aren't finished at all by any means next year as well. Hopefully we'll get out of Munster and take it from there.

I wouldn't agree with you there at all. Of course some people don't like him, but there's no doubting the mans passion for Cork hurling imo.

He was some let down. Was given time and all

Definitely had ambitions to be over the Cork Men's Footballers in his managerial career.

Fine win for the Intermediates. 1-11 v 1-10

Nelligan with the winning point - a real livewire when she came on.

    Good game.

Always nice to beat the Cats.

    30 Titles now.

Great defensive play throughout and their bench made the difference in the last 10-15

I see a lot of people on social media saying the ref favoured Cork today.

Probably the same people who told Cork to stop moaning after we didn't get that free at the end of the All-Ireland final (rollseyes).

Well there was a penalty given in the ladies football game for Galway against Cork that was ridiculous. It led to Cork being knocked out. Add in the jersey pull the mens all ireland final and then the goal not given in the U20 game, we have had a tough year with refs.

The most outrageous decision against Cork was on RTEs Up for the match. Remember there were 2 women, One from Clare other from Cork. Winner got tickets for final. They had to transfer balls but use left hand for one box and right for the other. The Clare lady clearly cheated! She used both hands to do it from one box, right in front of Des Cahill. I knew it was a bad omen at the time! 😀

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,253 ✭✭✭hans aus dtschl

In all fairness the U20 goal was really really bad. Whatever about the senior final, that one was unforgiveable to me. Two umpires and a ref couldn't see the ball hitting the actual net! It was insanity

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,728 ✭✭✭Seadin

They can all shut up now. Cork are the all ireland camogie champions. When we were complaining about decisions that went against us in the men's senior hurling final, we were told to suck it up and not be taking from Clare's win. They can suck it up now and stop taking from Corks win.

  • Registered Users Posts: 544 ✭✭✭1373

So you were complaining then, but it's OK now , is that what you're saying

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,728 ✭✭✭Seadin

No but If people want to blame the referee, start looking at other games where the ref didn't favour Cork. U20 semi final, all Ireland final. Yes that goal in Camogie final wasn't a goal but I didn't hear too many having much pity for Cork in the U20 semi final or All Ireland final with the decisions that went against them.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,141 ✭✭✭Straight Talker

We were robbed in matches over the years in both men and women's codes and there wasn't too many tears shed for us i can tell you! Of course it's tough for the losing team but that's sport for you. You have no choice but to suck it up. Well done to a fine Cork team on yet another all Ireland win for them.

Not sure how Frank is still to blame. Over two million was spent preparing the hurlers, hardly cutting corners?

the wheel will turn dont worry , i just hope it turns in time for hoggie to win his all ireland

i mentioned before we have a mutual friend in ennis that's a buisness man that he deals with through work , he was very frank with him after the 2022 all ireland 1/4 final and very frank with the media in the league last year , hes a straight talker (like yourself 😂) but very likable because of his talent

he has every right to be aggrieved about the final incident of the game , but even if we did have a var system that day , half of the county of clare was on the pitch celebrating by the time anyone spotted the jersey pull on the replay , it would have created havoc , but if it was middle of the game and it happened , and johnny ryan didnt see it he would have been alerted by his umpires or linesman

i think thats what hoggie is hinting at , a real hurling debate needs to take place though , do we need to let everything go like johnny ryan did , or do we need to call nearly every foul like the few in the media have being pointing out over the last few weeks , i reckon letting it go is the best option and have for years it makes for a far better spectral but its always going to be tougher on the losing team

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,141 ✭✭✭Straight Talker

Oh if we're going to let things go so it won't ruin the spectacle, then we way may as well throw away the rulebook altogether.🤣

Just on the "controversial" goal cork got last week.

If you like closely the ball takes the slight change in spin and direction. The Cork player only got slightest of touch but technically it was perfect goal.

Ref was poor never the less but for me goal was fine.
