Companies online that won't ship to Ireland

    Has anyone else experienced the above ? Twice now I've tried to buy goods, once from Belgium & then Italy, Ireland doesn't appear in the list of countries, so I emailed & asked was this just an error & no, they said they don't ship to Ireland.

    To add insult to injury the UK was listed.

    Cost of shipping.

    Huge volume going into the UK, so cost of shipping can be low.

    Tiny volume going to Ireland, cost of shipping is high.

    The cost of shipping was never mentioned, they just wouldn't send here. I can get a guitar sent from Japan by UPS or DHL no problem, it seems some companies just don't list Ireland.

    Exactly. Time and effort of arranging shipping vs expected volume of sales. Also the business will have a target market.

    It is a judgement call by the business that the hassle and costs and effort outweighs the expected returns. Especially if the item has a slim margin of profit.

    There are no hassles or costs for a small business in the EU to ship to another EU country. That's the whole point of the single market. If the company gets big they'll need to start charging Irish VAT but for a single shipment they literally just have to post/ship it here.

    At the end of the day though a business can do what it likes once it's not breaking any laws.

    riiiiight. speaking from personal experience.

    There is an extensive array of official documents that you need to be familiar with if your business will be exporting goods. You must also allow for the additional costs that are involved in an export shipment, whilst making sure that the sale is still competitive. Most of all, you must be fully satisfied with the credit worthiness of your overseas customer and you should minimise the payment risks by the use of secure international payments through the banking system, such as advance payment transfers, Letters of Credit or Credit Insurance.
