Disgusting night in Cork, very unseasonal rattly wind and rain. Needed windows open but couldn't. Humid as hell this morning and misty/grotty. Now raining again.

very very autumnal day. Windy of course but also dull and overcast with rain threatening all the time after a very wet night.

A horribly grey, damp morning in Dub/Kildare with the inevitable strong breeze. Too humid to be comfortable in a rain jacket, too windy for an umbrella.

But it's starting to dry out and brighten up now, so maybe we'll have a nice evening.

Sun breaking through now in Dublin…turning into another nice day. August hasn't been bad at all here

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,094 ✭✭✭compsys

21º and feeling warm in Dublin.

We're now almost half-way through August. And in the East at least almost every day has been above 20º. And tomorrow it's almost guaranteed to hit over 20º too. And on Thursday and Friday also. Dublin could end up with around 20 >20º days this month. I'd imagine that's way above average.

Had we been offered that last month we'd all have taken it with both hands.

A bit more sun would be nice. But it just goes to show that you don't need brilliant synoptic conditions to get OK weather in summer - even in Ireland.

August is certainly doing better than I expected, it's been 20C or more most of the month so far in Meath as well and not much in the way of rain. The GFS/ECM charts over the past 2 weeks certainly kept showing a much more unsettled theme and these didn't really verify. I've had about 8 decent warm sunny days this month, 3 poor wet and cloudy days and another 3 with a general mix of sunshine and showers. Certainly better than last August.

Lovely summer's day in Galway. Improving as the day goes on.

August certainly is much warmer than June and July.

Dublin Airport showing a mean temperature of 16.7C which is well above the average of 15.1C. Only half way through the month but to put that in context, the mean temperature in July was 14.9C which was 0.5 degrees below average (15.4C).

Dublin Airport has only received 5.3mm of rain which kinda surprises me.

In other news it was the 3rd best July on record for wind generation in Ireland.

What are they doing in the Hyacinth House?

Sunny spells in Greystones now and turning into another warm day. 22.7c now.

In fairness after a pretty brutal June and July, I think we deserved what has been a relatively decent August. Yeah a week or two of wall to wall sunshine and temperatures of 25 degrees plus would be very nice, but beggars can't be choosers. It was looking like another cracker of a day in Dublin (Ringsend), but sadly it's gone very grey in the last hour, although very muggy.

I will take fair to middling weather through the working week as long its nice and sunny Saturday/Sunday

If the skies stay clear for a bit tonight might be worth a gander northwards.

It's very windy with disappointing temperatures. Not a lovely summer day, maybe a lovely spring or autumn day.

Think the weather's been so bad and without any real good spells this summer that the mediocre days seem amazing.

Very nice afternoon in North Dublin again hovering between 21 and 22 degrees with blue skies and some cloud..very pleasant to walk around in if slightly humid

Won’t occur unless we see a dramatic change. Interplanetary magnetic field has been strong all day but is weakening in recent hours. All the while orientation has not been good and satellites are not looking hopeful for the orientation to change a great deal.

Still a lovely evening in NCD, at football training and still a very pleasant 19 degrees.

Really August has been great in Dublin, nearly everyday has been 20 degrees or more.

Perseids meteor shower at their peak at the moment. Clear skies right now but not sure what midnight+ will bring.

What are they doing in the Hyacinth House?

Loving the positivity Cluedo ;) wind generation in July !

Hoping good weather in the West next few days as heading up your direction but the forecast is not looking great ...what do you think ?

  • Registered Users Posts: 575 ✭✭✭glightning

Absolutely. The charts had been looking like train wreck for August. But in actual fact, it's been decent enough so far.

Thursday looks a bit wet but otherwise looks grand GG. The sea temps are just perfect at the moment if you fancy a dip.

What are they doing in the Hyacinth House?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,905 ✭✭✭✭Goldengirl

    Yes definitely .

Looking forward to a fresh Atlantic swim !

Don't really mind as long as we can get out and the forecasts are not 100% right anyway .

August keeps on giving, at least for me. Past 3 days alone - thunderstorms, perseids, aurora and now this evening's sunset (pic from Howth).

To echo what others have been saying, the month has lacked a definitive excellent warm, sunny and dry spell like August 2022 two years ago had at this time but nonetheless, been very dry and warm here in the east. Been thoroughly enjoying it.

It's been grand in Sligo in August bar 2 or 3 very wet days. Like rain is at 71.7mm which is wetter than May June and July but its been sunny a lot too and 18c upwards most days so beats 12 to 14c of June. You can see the tentative warming here. Still think September might deliver a record warm spell.

One of the nicest starts to the day of the entire summer this morning. Crystal clear blue sky, bright sunshine, and no wind.

It won't stay that way, but nice morning all the same

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,098 ✭✭✭DellyBelly

    Stunning morning in Dublin…

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,266 ✭✭✭Hippodrome Song Owl

A beautiful morning of proper sunshine in Dub/Kildare and a lovely fresh coolness. And no wind. Perfect for now.

The sun never appeared here at all yesterday until 9pm at sunset. It was dry from lunch, but very overcast all day.

Lovely morning, feels fresher than recent, but still more than acceptable 14c currently. Some nice days with a mixture of odd wet day in the next week. N Kildare

Foggy morning with temperatures down to 7C. Very autumnal.

August has been very disappointing around these parts. Very little sun. Rain and drizzle. Low temperatures.

Lovely morning in Sallins. If I can put the clothes out on the line I am always happy!

9c in Cobh this morning, first day since spring that its < 10c. Autumn knocking. But quite pleasant this morning - would have been a cracker for a swim given how much colder air temps were than sea temps but no I have to be in a beige office instead for the entire day.
