I gave notice to virgin not to renew my contract when it comes to an end on July 04th.

They were quick to process the cancellation but their email confirmation states the effective date to be June 26th.

Shouldn't it be July 04th? Concerned they might try to stitch me up for early cancellation or something ..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,515 ✭✭✭CoBo55

Why didn't you wait until the 4th of June to give your 30 days notice? I'd ring them back cancelling what you've done and cancel on the 4th, they could easily punish you for breaking the contract.

  • Registered Users Posts: 94 ✭✭Ladybird37

I actually forgot all about it, didn't hear anything from them at all. But, I just logged into my Virgin account and they issued a bill yesterday for the half price amount so it worked! Defintely worth a try anyway if you're out of contract.

I took the chance like you after spotting the link on here. Haven't had any communication back either. But hopefully it will work like yours. My bill isn't due until next week,so fingers crossed.

Im out of contract too and when I called to haggle a deal a few weeks back the guy says he'll do me a deal of 75 a month but will take away some channels .....I kid you not! Told him to bog off. I pay 94 for basic TV and only 250 mb broadband. Crazy.

Was planning on cancelling but Ill health has distracted me.

Hoping that link and deal works.

    Thanks whoever posted it.

Looks like my cancellation is going ahead on June 5th. Going to sign up as my other half. For anyone who has done that, has it taken long to get up and running again with the new connection? Also did you have to wait for the cancellation date to pass before ordering?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,102 ✭✭✭Sarn

You don’t need the cancellation date to pass before ordering. Just signup in the other name a day or two earlier to allow for delivery of the new equipment.

My experience is that there is next day delivery during the week. In this case it’s a bit awkward with the long weekend, if you order today you should get it Tuesday. But they might activate the new account early, despite you not having the equipment. Depends on how much you care about overlapping service.

Hi, just as matter of interest, do VM customers normally get an email telling them when their contract is up? I've never got one? Thanks

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 965 ✭✭✭Everlong1

If it's half price per month how come you're only saving €10?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,515 ✭✭✭CoBo55

I did get an email this year, first time ever.

Apologies, I was already on a half price deal from last year, €62 including phone, tv, 500 Mb bb. The new half price deal is about €10 less than that at €53.50.

how long does it take to get the confirmation email? I emailed them today and nothing back yet

I'm just glad to be away from them tbh, they still managed to get €2.65 extra on the final bill😡, shower of crooks...

Happy Days! Thank you to the original poster who posted the link.

Out of interest, does it take a few days to get a confirmation email once you sign up? I signed back up under my wife's details on Wednesday night and got a screen confirmation of the order but no emails or text confirmation since.

Was out of contract at the start of the month, called them looking for an offer (was on 6 months half price last contract - 1gb broadband and 360 TV) and nothing doing so I cancelled. Got a txt a few days later with an offer for 12 months half price, the offer for new customers.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,743 ✭✭✭Wanderer2010

Question for people who cancelled for a cheaper deal: did VM get back to you by text shortly before the last date of your contract offering you the same broadband deal as newcomers? That's 35 a month.

I cancelled as I wasn't paying 70 a month after a year. After some weak offers I insisted on cancelling. Guy read out the terms and confirmed cancellation. 3 weeks before the last day, got a text offering 9 months at 35 then 3 at 70. I accepted buy now I'm thinking I should have waited until even closer and I may have got 12 months at the 35 euros.

Did that happen to anyone else who held off until the end?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,515 ✭✭✭CoBo55

I never got more than 6 months half price from them, once you've accepted the 9 months deal that's it you're locked in for the year, not a bad deal for VM. Still €44.74 per month for BB is scaldy enough.

Anyone that got a reinstall recently, what router was supplied? A black or white Router?

I got the same thing also, but i would of thought we would of gotten an email with our new contract details.i never heard anything from them,i jist went onto the half price for a year deal

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,123 ✭✭✭JohnnyChimpo

Did the annual dance, coming from 1GB broadband and TV.

    Was offered:

    • 12mo @89.50 (annual total €1074) - declined
    • 6mo @57, 6mo @114 (annual total €1026) - declined
    • 9mo @57, 3mo @114 (annual total €855) - accepted.

So, €71.25 p/m in the end, which is a €1.25 increase on last year and well within the cost of inflation. Or to look at it another way, a €600 p/a saving on my default tariff for the effort of listening to 10 mins of hold music and some banter.

I just kept hammering home that I was extremely price-motivated, quoting the 12mo costs for Eir and Sky etc. while being nice and friendly. The agent obviously had to "consult with management" to provide the 9mo offer, but I made it clear that I'd rather save the rigmarole of getting a cancellation text next week, which was better than last year.

I know I could do €10 cheaper p/m if I went to Eir or got my missus to re-up with Virgin or rolled the dice on the cancellation route instead, but it'd be a potential downgrade in broadband speed and dealing with the hassle of the new streaming box so I consider it a fine trade-off. There wasn't any enthusiasm to offer me a 24mo contract there, so maybe a sign that they're not confident about being able to push a price increase next year, who knows.

e: oh also 3 mo of Sky CInema which I need to call up and cancel in October 🙄

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,008 ✭✭✭mad m

Well after being a VM customer for years, I signed up to Eir last year. Wife had enough of it, coming to end of contract now (Thank god didn't lock in for 24month contract) while broadband is fairly solid, the tv app is brutal. She now wants to go back to VM.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 754 ✭✭✭Weyhey

Looking for better deal or maybe moving from Vm. Please can someone help me understand this - I am on VM 360Mb and Anytime World but never plugged in or used the phone at cost of 75e pm.

I get average 250 mb on speed test. Eir say they can only offer me up to 100mb and Sky only up to 70mb. How can that be?

  • Registered Users Posts: 528 ✭✭✭boardz

My 1gb broadband end of contract dance went - 80 per year, 40 for 6 months then 80 and settled at 40 for 9 months then 80. A couple of weeks later we decided to move and when I went to transfer the broadband they only had Fibre to the Home = new customer = 1Gb for 50/month for 2 years.

Can we still do the rename the router to the current name trick when the new one is installed? Any experience of FTH?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,515 ✭✭✭CoBo55

You only have fttc available to you for Eir and Sky, VM use their own cable which can give you higher speeds. In reality there's absolutely nothing wrong with fttc, 70 meg will handle anything that's demanded of it, YouTube, Netflix etc will all work perfectly in fact pings are lower on fttc compared to VM's co-ax cable system (ping is important to gamers).

Anyone get a One4all recently from Virgin? How long did it take after ordering?

Ordered a few weeks ago during the promotion but no sign of it yet.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 95 ✭✭WATPOAE

Just off the phone to VM, I'm on 250mb broadband and been on a 9 mths @ €30 / 3 mths @ €60 deal for past year. VM not playing ball and offer for next year was a flat €45 / month for same speed. So increasing the cost for the exact same speed.

I'm strongly considering cancelling and moving to Sky as I can get FTTH to my address. Quick question about Sky broadband installation, do they normally charge a set up/installation fee for new customers?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,515 ✭✭✭CoBo55

No sky don't charge installation, just ring to make certain though.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 95 ✭✭WATPOAE

    Will do, cheers

I went with Pure telecom in April €30 for 500 meg no installation charge, absolutely top class service. I switched on the router on the day of installation changed the SSID and password and haven't touched it since. I'd highly recommend them. I'm on openeir.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 95 ✭✭WATPOAE

I'll check out Pure as well. Been on WhatsApp with Sky for past half hour to try and get confirmation of no install fee...bloke asked me for my details on three separate occasions and has now said someone will call me...Jesus why is customer service so hard, a basic question needs the input of multiple people.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,282 ✭✭✭Roberto_gas

They are offering new customers €35 pm for 500 mbps 12 month ..just switch to sky and come back..u shud not be paying more than that anyway

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,515 ✭✭✭CoBo55

WhatsApp or text with them is a waste of time you're better off ringing.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 95 ✭✭WATPOAE

Have ended up cancelling my broadband with VM. Second call and they wouldn't move on offer of €45/mth for 250mb.

Will be going with either Sky or Pure Telecom unless VM miraculously come back with a much better offer (preferably the current new customer offer) but I doubt it

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,168 ✭✭✭BlazingSaddler

Hi all, I was with VM for years until last year when Sky blitzed on price. TV (2 boxes) / Netflix and BB with Sky has been €84 per month until now my 12 months is up and it’s €151. Is there a Sky thread like this one please? I’m also going to see what VM can offer me as a new customer l. VM have offered me €70 for 1GB + 2x TV + Sky Sports for 12 months, €75 for 24 months or €80 for 2 GB for 12 months, €85 for 24 months. Has anybody used the new VM TV streaming box yet?

Have you got SkyQ plus a mini box? If that's your setup I'd stick with it, those streaming boxes are dirt compared to Q. Have you tried contacting sky?

Yes I have Sky Q and mini box. Just got off the phone with Sky, best they can do is €98 pm but that also includes Netflix so gonna stick with them. Thank you

FYI, the 12 month half price VM deal is still working. Tried it on July 21 when I saw this thread, didn't get any email confirmation but did get an on-screen one.

Just got my latest bill and states 'Loyalty Offer - 12 MONTHS HALF PRICE' on the discounts and savings section and the bill is half what it normally is!

Thanks to whoever posted it originally.!

Sister has 3 months left on a year, if she changes over to Sky will there be a cost on leaving early?

    From their cancellation email:

If you request to cancel a service(s)when you are in contract a charge of €150 per product or the monthly amount for the remaining months of your contract will apply to you, whichever is less.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,007 ✭✭✭0ph0rce0

Used that link a few pages back and just checked my bill.

On half price for 12 months.

No contact back or confirmation but went through so obviously anyone can use it and it's not linked to any text message.

Glad I got in before it gets bombarded and they shut it down 😂😂😂

    Happy days.

Thanks. I'm still in contract until November, hopefully it stays active until then. That link says offer remains in place until 30/12/2024. They must be shedding customers to the likes of Sky now that they offer their service via FTTH. Great to see some competition.

I was lucky enough to get a 12 month half price loyalty offer for this current contract and a 9 month half price for the previous. Another one would be great!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 200 ✭✭DecTenToo

I was on the phone to see about the offers - the following were suggested - remove the phone, reduce the number of channels, then the 6-month offer for half price was suggested. I assume I'd actually have to cancel to get the 12-month offer. The rigmarole. I've just filled in the form for 12 months and will see what happens.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,606 ✭✭✭baldbear

I just used the above loyalty half price link. Will see what happens. Better than calling them and jumping through hoops.
