Whatsapp not loading local app data

I inadvertently uninstalled whatsapp on android phone but did keep ~5GB of data during the uninstall. The issue I'm having is that when I try and reinstall the app, whatsapp loads a backup from google drive of 70MB which is obviously missing most of my history. I've tried uninstalling app again, and again electing to keep ~5GB of data, and then deleting the google drive backup and then reinstalling the app but it still just loads the 70MB data. I was assuming the 5GB of data that I'm prompted to save would be my full history, no?

Thanks, I have now.

I'm afraid the 70MB install overwrote the Whatsapp server data so now on a reinstall it uses server data rather than local 5GB data.

Well that was a complete waste of time. Is whatsapp support done by very limited AI? All I got over and over were scripted default answers whatever the question - absolutely atrocious support.

Likely a case of downloading the databases off the phone onto a PC and then using something like Whapa that can read them. Tricky bit is while the databases are easy enough to get (Internal Storage/Android/media/com.whatapp/WhatsApp/Databases on my phone) extracting the encryption key from the phone is a right pain up the arse.

Ahh…that's a pity, now that I look at it. I did come across something on XDA or somewhere, but at the time I was a bit distracted with other stuff and I was also having an issue on the phone with samsung continually prompting for a password for an old defunct email address. I had already resigned myself to having lost all my chat history and just getting on with it, so what I did was, move the data to PC. I then wiped the phone to remove the samsung account. The encryption key is surely lost.
