went off to lakelands on saturday to watch the derby….. marys won 28-20, fairly tight going into half time and then opened up and marys on top most of 2nd half with a few penalities going against the way of nure. I didnt realise the nure prop andy keating went over to join marys this year, i'd say it didnt go down too well in the club lol. Good game to watch none the less

Strong statement of intent from Marys. They look to have recruited well over the Summer

  • Registered Users Posts: 636 ✭✭✭Chico Flores

I would have said hello if knew you were there.

Was a good game - we were a little weak at 10, probably the difference but Marys are decent. Very strong 15, maybe lacking depth but could see them going well.

Oh theres no issue on Andrew Keating, he's from Limerick I think - did very well with us, took a year out last year as living up in Navan. Good lad.

Greg Jones and Dan Goggin will be super signings for Marys

Results from the first round of fixtures

    Clontarf 29 UCD 31

    Wesley 7 Lansdowne 31

    Terenure 20 Marys 28

    Trinity 19 Belvo 62

    Naas 47 Barnhall 24

    Greystones 81 Malahide 0

    Skerries 17 Wanderers 40

    Navan conceded to Blackrock

And Tullamore v Enniscorthy was also off - not sure which side conceded

I know early season etc but you'd be worried for Trinity, lost lads to UCD, Clontarf, Lansdowne

    Pandas from navan. Not limerick.

.munster clubs kicking into gear with lot of friendlies this week ahead of senior cup starting on 30th

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 336 ✭✭luke9311

haha yeah, i wasn't planning on going tbh but woke up early by chance without planning to and was like ah sure why not plus we have marys this week so wanted to see how they fair out. i would have done the same if i planned in advance i'll let u know next time im up tho.

i was actually wondering that…. i know mckeown is a 10 in his early days but has transitioned in 9 in recent year was wondering if he was filling in for injury or if skehan was planning on putting him there in the future.

Yeah sorry, i didnt know panda took the year out i thought he was there last year and didnt feature due to injury or something. That move would be the equivilant of one of ours going to a belvo or wes tbh local rivals and all that lol. I seen rigney hobble off could be a worry going forward into the ail season this side of christmas depending on how severe that leg is.

Greg jones did well enough i thought yeah. Dan i thought was alright need to see move of him in games tbh. Was more impressed with there italian winger tbh with the scrumcap he was impressive.

One of your players i know chatted to post game did tell me to keep an eye out of bennie replacement the ex michaels lad, the fell that got the cut to his head and was bleeding post game, he said hes a real deal at 9 but young lad so needs time to develop.

As i said to you over summer and i still stand to it…. on paper marys would be a dark horse to do well come business end of season with the calibre of players they have tbh even though its there 1st year up from 1b.

Tadhg Brophy joined Lansdowne from Naas.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 336 ✭✭luke9311

he did quite well when he came on today tbh for james kenny. 49-24 was the overall score to lansdowne….. not quite a scoreline i thought would happen before ko i would have thought it would be alot closer given how well marys recruited over the summer.

    Quality player tbf

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,273 ✭✭✭Stainalert

Marys were missing a good few of those new signings

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 336 ✭✭luke9311

Yeah im just thinking off the top of my head, silvester was out with a knock, hayes didnt play i dont think ethan baxter did…. outside that im unsure as to if there were anymore faces missing that i can think back on other than greg jones whos away for a month or so i think? Also theres a paul deeny on the teamsheet in the second row…… that the same one in leinster and i think used to be with tarf?

One of the looser games of rugby that's been played in the UCD Bowl tonight.

    UCD 54 - Old Belvo 46.

Second half was a defence optional affair. Quite entertaining nonetheless

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,186 ✭✭✭Lost Ormond

Cookies beat garryowen 33-31 last night

    Today

Con far too strong for Shannon. Looking very very good ahead of start of league. Will be very strong challengers in 1a again. Too much pace power for their hosts.

    Highfield 22 Nenagh 29

    Bohs 24 Cashel 35

    Clonmel 44 bruff 22

    Crescent 31 Dolphin 26

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 336 ✭✭luke9311

Lansdowne 24 Terenure 22 on the back pitch aviva……. probably a game lansdowne should have won by more tbh when you add to the fact phillips scored one of the trys for nure off a breakaway loose pass and ran the length of the pitch. Lansdowne will be happy but should have closed it out better.

Think they face Tarf next week in play offs as a result of today

What was the score in the Shannon Con game? No mention of it anywhere online.

Some interesting results up North on Saturday:

    Dungannon 46 Queen 14

    Ballynahinch 36 Malone 39

    Banbridge 21 Rainey 33

    Instonians 12 Armagh 53

    Harlequins 29 Omagh 36

    Ballyclare 52 Ballymena 12

Quite the introduction into the Senior ranks for Ballyclare and surprise away wins for Malone and Rainey.

Queens still have a lot of players still to turn up, and away with various age grade squads and academies so wouldn't read too much into their form, expect another hiding against Hinch this weekend.

2 Defeats on the spin for 'Hinch is a bit of a concern - though it hasn't taken long for the new Armagh coaching ticket to get them ticking, that's a great result against Instonains.

Be interesting to see how Ballyclare get on this season, if they follow in the footsteps of Clogher and Instonians they could be an interesting watch!
