The leinster champs which was 1st September has dropped off the calendar, anyone know if it is cancelled?

It was listed as Dublin so looks like it was never going to be traders cup in the first place and possibly hoping to get another club to host?

To the best of my knowledge up to yesterday there is still no promoter for the Leinster Championships.

Munster and Ulster are good to go but nothing boxed off for Leinster or Connaght yet.Dundalk have promoted them for years but not this year.Traders Cup as a stand alone event doesn't appear to be happening either. As per the regulations all the provincial Championships have to take place on the same weekend or probably won't happen.I would like to see them run.

Best of luck getting it off the ground this late.

Locally the Tipp Championships didn’t take place this year due to delay after delay or little contact to queries sent to CI for approval, a very frustrating process seemingly.

I don't think they have to be the same weekend, but if you take part in one, you cannot ride in any other that year, so having them the same weekend made sense.

They do have to be same weekend for about past 5 years or so.

Fair enough, it's not in the tech regs, just that you can't race more than 1.

Charleville 2 Day struggling for two numbers which is a pity, hopefully they get the numbers to go ahead.

Didn't see this advertised anywhere. How many weeks does it run?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 644 ✭✭✭ottolwinner

Does anyone have an idea how many races were cancelled this year? Seems to have increased significantly if I’m not mistaken.

Next week is Round 3, senior race only and the week after is the Wexford Crit Champs 2024, and that is it

No and I should have. I probably peaked around end of April / start of May and I was completely burned out post ras (and didn’t recognise it). Had enough residual fitness to do ok until the start of July but then I essentially needed to take a month off completely.

Felt really good at the Newry 3 day until I blew the lights out of nowhere on stage 2 (dunno what I was expecting given the lack of training). I was training hard since August 2023 so something had to give it’s just not ideal I had to take an off season around now

Enjoying being back on the bike again now even if the fitness wasn’t where it was. I’ll be going to Denmark for the experience and will prob do L’etape in Kerry but my race season is done. Lessons learned for next year but all in all I’ve achieved more this year than I ever thought possible so I can’t not be happy 😃

I'm surprised your coach didn't push for a full week off post RAS as generally riders come off that sick anyway.

You've had a year most wouldn't be capable of so sit back & enjoy these last few weeks before the winter reset from October 1st, Zwift & the gym awaits!

He did I’m just a stubborn bollox 😂

Delayed mine for 3 weeks so I can relate.

Thought you might race the Masters with fresher legs than most.

    Cyclocross season around the corner...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 701 ✭✭✭Reality_Check1

Not masters for another 3 years 😁

Although looking at the 40+ category it’ll be as hard as any A1 race!

I might do cross this year for a laugh! It’ll improve my bike handling if nothing else

Bear CX league just went on sale, that corner is only a week away

Is the license upgrade to A3 usually instant? I'm up to 14 points after the Armagh race yesterday but still listed as A4 on Cycling Ireland. Was hoping to do the Ulster Championship on Sunday.

You can take it that you are A3 now, just speaks to comms on the day beforehand.

WEXFORD CRIT RACE: So the next race will be tomorrow the 28th of August, hopefully we will improve the time gaps again. There is no youth event this week as the track will be occupied until 7pm. Senior race will start at 7:15pm, 40 minutes + 3 laps, run as a handicap race. Met Eireann is predicting the rain will have stopped and the wind will be greatly reduced this week after complaints last week. Slight change in format as we practice for the Wexford Crit Championships on the 4th September. If possible, wear race numbers.

This is a club league race, there are no CI points on offer.

Big thanks to Wexford County Council who are sponsoring the First Aid support for the race so that we can keep costs down and to encourage cycling in the area. And a big thanks to Wexford Race Course for use of the facilities, please remember not to walk/ride on the horse race track.

Any questions please ask, course is here for anyone who has not done it before:

Hi, I was thinking of trying some racing in 2025, probably club league and maybe some A4. I saw the email from Cycling Ireland about the changes in the grading system and I'm wondering if in practice, this will make entry level racing more or less accessible to someone like me with almost no racing background. With the new system, are the lowest level races expected to be more or less challenging due to stronger and more experienced racers moving up/down grades or will it be about the same?

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 25,392 Mod ✭✭✭✭CramCycle

Changes the wording a bit but in theory it will just give you an opportunity to also do some more mixed racing outside of the club league should the bug bite but no difference to your local club league

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,517 ✭✭✭Macy0161

From what I've seen, most of the complaints are existing riders getting C1! C3 races are doable on a LC iirc? If your club has an open race, that was always doable on a LC.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,709 ✭✭✭beggars_bush

Will be more accessible hopefully. Cost is the biggest barrier imho - licence, entry fees, diesel

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,846 ✭✭✭✭dahat

LC can race maybe 2/3 open races but that hasn’t been clarified yet.

I’ve been classed C2 as expected but appealed for C3 on age (48) and one or two other factors.
One drawback for C3 is the short races <70km which to be honest doesn’t warrant a full winter of hard slog. C2 though will be super competitive and goals like a top 10 or a race win will be beyond me for 2025 sadly.

Also first years jnrs are C3 which being frank is a terrible decision. An option for C2 should be there for those who possess ability beyond or believe they have. Early C3 races will be laughable.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,709 ✭✭✭beggars_bush

I think you're selling yourself short there. there will be plenty of races with fast finishes to suit you and you'll probably have the points again to go up

Agree with the juniors being in C3. Makes a lot of races uncompetitive, however I think they can make those races more interesting as the majority don't really want to get up the road or chase down a break away

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,846 ✭✭✭✭dahat

There is some high class first years juniors coming through that will just ride away from the vast majority of C3 lads. Races will be all over the road in March and April.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 25,392 Mod ✭✭✭✭CramCycle

I for one am in favour of it, stop that neutralise everything for a sprint that every race turns into once they leave A3 or the Leaving Cert is on

I went from A4 to A3 this year and I'm in C2 next year. I have mixed feelings about it to be honest.

In any of the handicap races this year I was getting blown out by the A2's, in A3 only I was there or thereabouts, caution probably kept me out of the sprints. My A4 points all came from early moves, again out of caution.

A lot of A3 seem to have gone to C2 and maybe the stronger A2 have gone to C1 making it doable. I have a big winter ahead of me I think if I want to be up there.

That said, I'd have a big winter if I wanted to be doing anything in A3 either way maybe.

I set a goal to get out of A4 this year so achieved that. I'm not sure I'll be setting any such goals this year. This was my first year open racing with only the club league done before that after coming from more of a leisure background.

You need to pick your races.

Figure out what your strengths are and targets those races. Talk to lads in your club if you are unsure about the race profiles

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,846 ✭✭✭✭dahat

I’ve no issue with the C3 cat for first year juniors, the point I wanted to make was the option of C2 for those lads who clearly have ability beyond open racing in Ireland.

Thanks for all the replies everyone, very helpful! Good to know I can get an LC licence and do club league and dip my toes in some open racing if I decide to.
