Electric Scooters to be banned from all Public Transport

I have saw some drivers refusing to carry them but it's not often I see them on a bus.

Issue is if a wheelchair user or buggey get on at the next stop where would she put it or if the bus was very busy at peak times. They would prevent 1 or 2 people standing.

Probably borne out of recent battery fires from dodgy escooters.

Issue is that it's too easy to buy cheap escooters online, whereas ebikes and mobility aids are bought usually through shops and more reputable sources.

It's a stupid ruling IMO as many use them as a last mile mode of transport and battery technology is getting safer. Would be better to clamp down on unsafe goods and bring certain models under the bike to work scheme to encourage people to buy better quality.

People 15 minute cities are a real thing.

e-scooters, especially the cheap ones, tend to have the battery extremely close to the ground. This leads to a much greater chance of battery damage and subsequent fires.

you can buy an escooter from temu and other direct from China sources that will have feck all safety checks and these have been the cause of many battery fires both in home and on public transport

There was an incident on the London Tube in 2021 and a bus in hampshire leading to a ban in the UK. Fires on public transport in Madrid and Barcelona last year led to bans there.

London Fire brigade had over 200 call outs to fires caused by E-scooters last year.

So unfortunately the evidence is there to back their claims up and until a very strict battery regulations for importation is implemented throughout Europe, it is likely they will not be allowed on public transport unless there's some system where the bike is folded and kept with the owner as a condition of carriage.

E bikes are specifically allowed and e scooters are specifically not allowed by this new NTA rule

The individual provider can them make other decisions on what is not allowed.

Then regulate the scooters themselves and their import; rather than punishing end-users who bought good quality ones, by removing the ability to use it for their commutes from their house/workplace to the bus stop/train station and back.

They really do need to ban scooters and bikes that you cant fold up small from trains. Its happened a lot of times now that a train would be full and there would be a bike blocking me and others from getting in at the door. They are too big, bulky and awkward and are taking passenger space away from public transport.

When the ban comes in is it possible that scooter owners will just fold them up and put them in bags ?

NNo I suppose not but it does seem like the Communist idea where you had to have a pass to get outside your district. Putting kill switches in cars os already legislated for. Next it will be localising our currency (there are already doing this with the digital Dollar and the electronic Euro). Have you tried to get a five figure sum from the bank? Nothing but delays and questions what you want it for.

TThe best thing about it is, its all for our own good to protect us from terrorism, child protection and the war on drugs. Funnily enough the country has never been more awash with drugs, our borders are open and three kids were attacked by a knife wielding maniacs. As for drinking the coolaid, next thing you know you will be thinking Europes version of WeChat is a good idea. Something like EUChat?

Aren't bikes already banned during peak hours? Never seen one person stopped in my lifetime. Similarly E-Scooters, unless folded up are a massive hazard if an evacuation was necessary, similar to bikes but unless Irish Rail plan on enforcing the rules then nothing will change.

They only attempt at enforcement I've seen was my bag was checked for alcohol once.
