Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Aye Sterling had 53 goal involvements in Artetas last full season as assistant at City. Will be good cover for left and right. As long as we don't get an obligation to buy in the deal it could work well.

Sterling still has 3 years left on his Chelsea contract, two after next summer. He'd be an excellent loan signing who will provide wing cover. Be great for Trossard too as he can play behind Havertz. He's the best technical finisher we have at the club. Imagine the damage he'd do coming from the center without having to come in from the left (where he's already a devastating finisher). Hopefully we'll get Sterling done in the next hour.

Reiss Nelson looks to have gone to Ipswich on loan according to SSN.

Not sure about Sterling still be a good player. I feel he'd gone downhill fast even before he left City.

I'm OK with the Sterling move as long as we aren't paying is full wage etc as I said earlier. He is replacing Nelson. so instead of raising our ceiling, he's raising our floor. If Arteta can get a tune out of him, who knows what floor he raises. maybe even the penthouse.

What are the fees for Nketiah and Nelson? Are we still in really positive PSR compliance allowing us to blow a fortune on the ceiling raiser in January?

Sterling is apparently taking a 50% wage cut to come to us and paperwork has gone in to allow us a 2 hour extension to complete the deal

    Nice! Happy with that.

It'll be good to see a player taking such a cut to join us, if true. He'll be out to prove a lot. I'm excited after seeing what Arteta did to Havertz, what he can get out of a former talent like Sterling.

Reiss now is going to Fulham, not Ipswich! Now my fav 2nd premier club!

    If true of course!

I think Sterling has quality and if Arteta can get a song out of him then that's a shrewd bit of business.

sterling and edu on the club website so that’s that wrapped up officially

No loan fee, and the player agreed to cut his wages in half to join us.

That's a great bit of business to be fair, and it reeks of someone with a bit of grit, determination and a point to prove.

Arteta wil be delighted. Also two weeks for him to get used to Colney and work with Arteta and the other trainers as I don't think he got called up for the internationals?

Only a shame he won't be able to play against Chelsea.

Sterling didn't cut his wages to join us, Chelsea are paying over half his wages for him to play for us. He'll continue to get his Chelsea contracted wage until his contract expires.

I thought I read on the guardian he had to cut his wages to join us. Ah well, still a good deal. I just saw Arteta speak about him, very good.

Net spend of about £20m all things considered. Entering our sustainable era, which is a good thing I think. Chelsea, Everton, Villa, Newcastle, Forest, all struggling with PSR rules. Best get ahead of it now.

Good starting 11, but the bench is extremely light...

Arsenal starting XI: Raya, White, Saliba, Gabriel, Timber, Partey, Rice, Odegaard, Saka, Trossard, Havertz.

Subs: Setford, Martinelli, Kiwior, Zinchenko, Jorginho, Calafiori, Myles Lewis-Skelly, Nwaneri, Salah.

Delighted to see Trossard get his start. Hopefully Martinelli will fight for his place back when he comes on at the 70th.

I don't know MLS, Salah or Setford. Nwaneri sounds familiar, but I can't place him.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,159 ✭✭✭Irish Aris

Nwaneri has featured a couple of times in the team for the last 10-15 minutes when we have won the match.

Open to correction, but I think Arteta brought him in for a match when he was still 15 years old, making him the youngest player in PL ever.

Squad looks really thin all of a sudden. From an attacking perspective on the bench it’s really just Martinelli that we can turn to, maybe Nwaneri.

We also have four guys who can play left back on the bench.

Whats happening with Ferguson I wonder. Not even on the bench today for Brighton.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,109 ✭✭✭✭Quazzie

Ødegaards big weakness is how much he looks for Saka to pass to. He far too often loses the ball because he'll ignore a clear pass in the hunt for a Saka pass. When you notice this it becomes a lot more obvious when watching games.

Lack of consistency for me. Great one game, anonymous the next.

Sterling in the stands keeps yawning. Guess he couldn't get much sleep last night.

Is it going to be one of those games, lots of shots but noone to fire the ball home

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,568 ✭✭✭Flaneur OBrien

Heart was in my mouth watching Odegaard down like that. He's one player we don't have a replacement for.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 52,219 Mod ✭✭✭✭Necro

Arsenal are paying him 100k and Chelsea the remaining 250k according to online reports. So we are basically paying him Nketiahs old wage.

Very sloppy play. We need to settle and pass much better.

First time I noticed Rice today and its a yellow.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,568 ✭✭✭Flaneur OBrien

    Needed that.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 52,404 ✭✭✭✭tayto lover

Playing well within ourselves but still 1 up at h/t. We do need to improve in the second half though. Some players very sloppy and some not in the game as much as they need to be.

Partey and Rice on yellows makes me nervous. Jorginho for one of them please Mikel at HT

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,866 ✭✭✭Deeper Blue

Harsh yellow for Rice I thought, Partey had a few fouls so probably deserved. The lad that fouled Odegaard should've gotten one too

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,866 ✭✭✭Deeper Blue

What was Rice sent off for? What was the second yellow card given for?

A stupid sending off right there.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,568 ✭✭✭Flaneur OBrien

Ah come on, that was a ridiculous red.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,506 ✭✭✭Underground

Really dense by Rice that. Monumentally stupid.

That said, players kick balls away like that all the time, Joao Pedro did it in the first half himself. An absolutely mad red card, bananas.

I’m lost for words at that sending off
