Its a joke that the 2 boys are allowed play for Glenmore

Cody went off near the end, looked in a good bit of discomfort with his ankle.

Really interesting few weeks ahead in the KK senior championship after todays results.

Glenmore back to form with a win over Thomastown and a great chance now of escaping bottom 2 on final day. The Bridge seeing off the Boro in a game that never really took off. Boro form gone worryingly poor. Village looking good for 40 mins but then Tullaroan took over and won comfortably sending Village into a mouthwatering 1st round v The Shamrocks.

Clara came good against Comer in last 15 to keep their momentum going. Comer look doomed unless they can find something quick. OLG looking unstoppable in dismantling GBC. Question is are they having things too easy. Guaranteed league final for them now. Dead rubber v Shamrocks in the final game. Mullinavat having a good win over the Shamrocks despite the return of TJ and Paddy Mullen in 2nd half only to lose Eoin Cody then.

Relegation matches almost nailed down. Village v Shams and Comer v Boro/Glenmore.

Will Village being in possibly the tougher group stand to then and are the Shamrocks getting lads back too late this year? No matter what going to a heavyweight of KK hurling fighting for survival in a few weeks.

Can the Boro find something to overcome Thomastown in final game to avoid getting dragged into the relegation side of things. Will Glenmores good form continue to put pressure on the Boro.

Will likes of Loughs, Shams, Village and Comer now rest a lot next week considering they all know their faith?

Bridge and Tullaroan playing off for a quarter final place

why? Every else would do it if they had the opportunity fair play to them I say they didn’t take them off a local club.

I heard Billy Reid was good again today, Kevin Blanchfield and Cillian Hackett might all be brought in. Anyone else standout lads?

Billy Reid has been good now at club level last few seasons. Definitely worth a look along with Cathal Beirne. Kevin Blanchfield was in this year and didn't get a look in. Hackett has potential but where is his best position. Modern intercounty hurling his size may go against him.

Billy Reid, Paul Cody, Luke Connellan for me. I'd like to see Diarmuid Galway from Thomastown get a craic in the league, his puckouts are far better than any keeper we have, not sure on rest of his game yet, but he is putting Thomastown on front foot with puckouts and his distribution.

Marty Murphy seems to be going in the right direction also, has looked a bit more mobile.

Liam Blanch is human wrecking ball for the bridge but it is strange how it doesn't happen at inter county.

Another thing is besides Harry Shine we might not see many with Dicksboro players from all the great underage teams the last few years make it with Kilkenny which is baffling.

Big IF…. But if Tullaroan and Bridge draw and Boro beat Thomastown, it will mean Thomastown finish 3rd and Tullaroan and Glenmore into quarters

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 510 ✭✭✭Neewollah

Assume you mean Tullaroan and Bennettsbridge into quarters

Not really glenmore are a small country club and the reality of small country clubs is if you have the chance of a few players to transfer in from somewhere else or another club you get them in you need absolutely everyone that can hurl to hurl they saw an opportunity to get the lads in and took it

A lot of clubs have players playing into there late 30s early 40s in rural clubs as they simply don’t have anyone else to make the step up

Bigger areas and town teams have 3 if not 4 adult teams to bring younger players along so there ready to step up to the highest team eventually they have a constant supply

It think it’s more a case of the Waterford county board **** up and being difficult than a glenmore issue

it’s certainly going to be an exciting weekend in group1 but isn’t that the way all competitions should be ?

  • Registered Users Posts: 920 ✭✭✭DiscoStew

In what way did the Waterford Co Board fck up?

I presume the opportunity you refer to was for the Glen to “provide” accommodation for lads that have never before lived in the area on the condition of hurling for the club, because they surely wouldn’t falsify the address.

Have been most impressed with Eoghan O'Neill, fine hurler. Physique similar to Tom Phelan but knows where the goal is. Worth bringing him for a look. Ed Lauhoff, Aaron McEvoy, Cillian Hackett, Tomas Mullally, Zach Bay Hammond, Padraig Dempsey, Tomas Roche, Paul Cody are others who I like the look of, along with those around panel who are hurling well such as Kevin Blanchfield, Jordan Molloy, Owen Wall, Luke Hogan, Shane Murphy

  • Registered Users Posts: 149 ✭✭jamesbond2022

I don’t know the full facts but were they not given a dispensation to hurl with dunhill last year and told this year they can only hurl with the new club in there are which is a very new club at a low level

They obviously got fed up of the politics of it all I’d imagine and a transfer to glen more was an easy solution

It’s widely known that the wd county board isn’t the best run and Croke park are slow as a funeral with dealing with situations like this one

At the end do the day lads just want to hurl and hurl at the highest level possible

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 884 ✭✭✭Marrooned

that’s a fairly exciting list to be including for next year and see where it brings us, ye Ed Lauhoff is big and strong and can hurl, maybe a bit young.

Actually the U21 championship this year should show up a lot of talent, the only trouble is that it’s late in the year for the fast skilful hurlers?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 510 ✭✭✭Neewollah

Agree on Eoghan O'Neill. Been very impressive on the most part for last few years.

Yes, that's him. Another MoM display today vs Conahy Shamrocks and you'd pick him out well ahead of Conahy's current and former county players. Padraig Lennon, a tidy corner back too showed good composure all through the game.

just a question lads the arrabawn final last week when Tipp hammered us we couldn’t play some of the KK lads that were underage were Tipp the same?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 33 Shocks12

Yep Eoghan is flying it for us and probably the right age profile to get a go. Jake O’Dwyer maybe too but look I am biased..

Here is my worry what are Kilkenny selectors and management watching at times. Are they definitely picking the best club players? (Are club players not interested?)

I was chatting to a guy at work from Danesfort who said if you were told that Danesfort has Kilkenny panel members and Lisdowney had none you wouldn’t believe it. And there is no bias in what he was saying.

There is some really strange choices of hurlers on this Kilkenny panel/extended panel and I don’t want to insult name names but that is the hard truth.

Lyng has not put any stamp on a panel.

Forget about he isn’t big enough he hasn’t that size arguments good hurlers are good hurlers. A 11 /12st good hurler is still better than a 14st athlete with no hands or movement.

The pity is Lyng probably has this year and will go whereas if he had time he might look at development. I am honestly worried about what they do see at times and speaking to an ex inter county player who said the same.

Have we heard of who is coming into the backroom??

I agree with a lot of that, i watched a lot of games this weekend. The Kilkenny squad needs a total revamp, some of the county players have been poor. Richie Reid has been very poor all year, Mikey Carey has been poor to date.

I've had a lot of similar thoughts over the last few weeks after watching a lot of games. We've persisted with so many similar faces, particularly those on the bench for KK without a whole lot of change for last number of years. A lot of the lads that have been mentioned here have been brought in over last few years but never seem to have got a look in. You'd often here that some of these lads are flying but still cant ever seem to make matchday 26. Why would any of these lads go back after maybe 2 or 3 years of feeling they haven't been given a fair crack.

From what I can see over the last few weeks there are plenty of good hurlers out there worth a chance but will they get them, hard to see it.

    Latest odds on club championship.

OLG 8/11 They are playing with a lot of confidence. With County players Mikey Butler, Huw Lawlor, Paddy Deegan, Jordan Molloy and David Fogarty in their backs and with Owen Wall, Luke Hogan, Conor Heary in the forwards they are trouncing their opposition by an average of 33 points to 14. Seems unfair they can add another county player in Fionan Mackessy.

Ballyhale 2/1. I don't fancy them at those odds. Not sure the extent of Eoin Cody's injury but the team looks weaker than previous years. Joey Holden, TJ and Richie Reid showing their years.

Thomastown 10/1. I was impressed with their first 3 matches. Diarmuid Galway has by far the most accurate puckouts. Team uses the ball well and a variety of scorers. Unless they lose their last match and there is a draw between Tullaroan and Bridge, they will be through to the quarter finals.

Bridge 8/1. Solid looking. I would like to see David Blanchfield drive forward more. Need to avoid injuries as subs don't look strong. Generally work the ball well through the lines.

Dicksboro 14/1. Missing Bill Sheehan against the Bridge but missing Tom Kenny and Andy Gaffney for the year. Have been beating teams for fun in the league for a couple of years but missed 5 goal chances against Tullaroan this year. Threw away the semi final against Ballyhale last year. Still will be tough opposition for anyone.

Mullinavat, Clara, Glenmore, GB, Tullaroan and Village all 25/1. If Mossy, Shane Walsh and Gearoid Dunne click, Tullaroan could go on a run like 2 years ago. Glenmore have improved a lot with their injured players back and their 2 new signings. Village are struggling but any of the other teams would only really fear OLG.

    Comer 50/1. No forwards

I certainly think any panel member next year shouldn’t be over 25 years of age.

  • Registered Users Posts: 149 ✭✭jamesbond2022

Both danesfort and lisdowney have had 2-3 players on extended kk panels the last few years

Tallis Kenny and Brennan have all been on kk panels as have Des Dunne and the other wing back from danesfort can’t think of his name

The net definitely needs to be spread wider and young lads need to be asked in for sure lyng hasn’t made any big decisions regards players just kept things very steady no drastic changes

Inter county is a young man’s game now
