    How often do SIRO update their address system? My house is connected, neighbours have SIRO installed, but there are patches of houses that providers can't provide broadband to as SIRO haven't updated their system.

    We were 15 years with 'regular' broadband from Vodafone and never had any trouble. We recently changed up to the new SIRO service and the internet drops quite often now. It only drops for a few minutes, but I work from home, so calls get dropped and it's annoying. It also drops late at night, midnight or so.

    But when it drops, you don't know whether it will be a few minutes or longer.

    Anyone know if this is on the Vodafone side or the ESB? You'd think they would have this stable by now.

    I can't help with your question, but I have Siro and experiencing drop outs too. It is frustrating when as you say, on a video call /meeting. For a time, I was not getting 1gb download.

    I'm guessing it's the router as opposed to the SIRO box, I'd be genuinely shocked if it was the SIRO box.

    I've had SIRO \ Vodafone for 5 years and its been rock solid. Never completely lost it while I was home but have had a few slow downs or high packet loss (very infrequent like maybe once in a year or so).

    If only their billing could be so reliable. 😒

    Does anyone know how to get in contact with SIRO? The houses across the road from mine have SIRO but the checker shows it’s not available at my address. Really frustrating to have to deal with Virgin / Sky / Eir for 100 mb packages.

    No point, they did every estate around me but never came into mine. Open Eir have laid fibre almost 2 years later, I'm still with VM. Are VM only offering you 100 meg? I don't think siro deal with the public directly it's all done through resellers.

    Yeah unfortunately just 100 mb.

    3 are offering 5G up to 350mb with an external box attached to the house or some people have it inside one of the houses beside us has it done.

    its 39 a month with 3 months free but a lot of people are saying they love it on here but then reading the odd comment where they’re saying at peak times they’re down to single digit speeds really worries me with WFH for 2 people..

    all in all just miss the SIRO and how handy it was to use.

    Very frustrating position to be in. I wouldn't like to be depending on any kind of mobile provider for BB especially WFH. At least with your 100meg it's very reliable, for me reliability is king.

    Let me disagree here. on MBB for a decade+, WFH since 2020. VPN/RDP + teams calling + IP phone. no more than 2-3 outages/degradation over this period.

    All depend on location/signal/congestion/hardware. Some of it less you can control, but if care of part that you can...

    VM aren’t offering anything according to their website. Might have to give them a phone.

    I checked Siro website and my estate and the one directly across the road don’t have it, and they both aren’t in the plan for NBP rollout so it seems I’m stuck with 100 mb from sky / vm / eir or digiweb unless I chance a 5G mobile plan which doesn’t sound that appealing.

    hoping we can get Siro eventually the whole town has it and all the other estates around us have it, it’s heart breaking - the download speed on Siro was game changing with gaming downloads and patches etc.

    If you're already getting 100mb then starlink isn't going to be a significant jump.

    Tbh, I have very rarely seen game changing anything above 200mb. Usually you'll still get buffering on services like Netflix or YouTube even with 1gb. If you care about getting a download done in 14 minutes vs 20 minutes then, OK? You saved 6 minutes or whatever. As another poster said, I would take reliability and consistency over an extra few 100mb any day of the week.

    Well 3 is dung in my area and that's real time tested I stupidly signed up to a 2 year contract to get some iPhone or other and it absolutely broke my heart. I've since gotten sense, ditched the iPhone and more importantly ditched 3. What provider are you with?

    agree - i ditched iphone when it was still #5 😊

    I am all hands for wired connection (LAN or WAN ), however, if its only up-to 100mbps vs MBB ~200Mbps then cost comes along with other factors

    I am with three, long time, and as long i can manage to get mine ~190/60 and have no problems with congestion(i do sometimes have bad days too, 130/60) it financially works better for me on mobile.

    That is my personal view at this moment and might not work for everyone.

    Have been having the exact same experience - multiple brief dropouts, sometimes only for a few seconds but enough to drop calls, game servers, etc. Sometimes for a lot longer but that’s generally at odd hours in the middle of the night. Definitely becoming more frequent lately too.

    can’t wait for July to roll around so I can switch to another provider.

    Is the ont going offline or is it VF itself going offline. Will changing providers actually help do you think? VF have gone to the dogs the last few years especially their fixed line BB whether it's ADSL, fttc or ftth their service is just gone terrible.

    The ONT will normally only go offline if there is no signal from the ISP. However if the ONT goes offline and there is a signal then disconnect the unit from the mains for 30 seconds to reset it and this may resolve issues. If not then the unit may become defective and need to be replaced.

    As for the outages mentioned these apply to all providers but normally at nght around 2-3am. If happening during the working day then follow up with your provider as to why.

    I'm really not up to date on how this works any more.

    Online, when ordering from Vodafone, I don't see anywhere to give my UAN. I currently am using Sky. Does the Vodafone order automatically bring about the switch or do I have to cancel Sky myself separately?

    Well this is what the website says but I'm not sure I can trust Vodafone in particular.

    If you’re switching your broadband service from Sky to a new provider, rather than cancelling/ceasing your services completely, you can normally place your order without contacting Sky.

    Okay, just in case anyone needs this information in future.

    If you telephone Vodafone to make the order, they do take the UAN. They initially say that they make the switch with Sky but when later reading the order script they warn you to contact Sky to cancel yourself as some providers continue to charge.

    I did call Sky and they seem very professional. They said that the billing would stop when the switch occurred and that I didn't need to call.

    It was just so difficult trying to find a number to call to make the cancellation. So many numbers that Google threw up were dead and Sky's help function also leads you to a dead end. Eventually I got through on (0818) 904 172.

    The way this industry operates is scandalous.

    After a bit of a long running saga with Siro in Cork City, I got a phone call from a very nice build engineer this morning who told me that he'd had a look at my house yesterday & they had two options to run a connection. Seems I might have it in a month or two. This started in April 2019 when I got a letter in the door saying Siro was available & ended up in April 2022 when they told me it was impossible to connect my house.

    Seems you really need to get hold of someone who's actually physically in the area, I sent an email to their buildsupport email address with a full list of my many interactions with them & that seemed to have move things along. Moral of the story, don't give up 🙂

  • Thinking of getting the up to 500 Mb package. Says €30 a month for the first 6 months and then €40 a month for the remainder of the 12 month contract. How much is it then from month 13 when the contract has expired?

    40euro a month after your contract ends. Vodafone no longer to a thereafter price, they are the first company in Ireland as far I know to do this. So it saves you having to ring up each year and they also give new and existing customers the same deal.

    Effective from April 24 on the €40. So from April your €30 pm for 6 months becomes €30 plus CPI+3% of €40.

    Some smaller ISPs have had a "no price hike" policy from day one.

    I’m with Vodafone for Siro and their switch over process is a joke. The backend for this process is a company in India. I switched my phone from VM to Vodafone. VM we’re very good giving me the UAN which is your account number but Vodafone mugs insisted that it was short a few digits because they use a longer one. So the port wouldn’t happen. I had to get comreg involved to sort it out and once they rolled in, it was ported within 2 days.

    Be aware if you contact comreg, there is a minimum period between lodging a compliant to your provider and the time you can contact comreg.

    The current database is based on SIROs rollout data from the 25. January. 2024.

    Our SIRO coverage only includes the areas, we cover. So that would currently be Athlone, Ballinasloe, Blessington, Castleconnell, Clarecastle, Ennis, Galway, Limerick, Loughrea, Monasterevin, Nenagh, Oranmore, Portlaoise, Roscommon, Roscrea, Shannon, Sixmilebridge, Sligo, South Dublin (Carrickmines, Leopardstown, Newcastle, Saggart, Stepaside, Stillorgan) and Tullamore.

    this is probably been asked before but here goes.

    Siro shows 500mb broadband available to address for Sky.

    if I put same eircode into skys website they tell me they can do 1GB to the home.

    is it the same infrastructure?

    The Siro site just seems to highlight one package per provider (presumably the deal the ISP wants to push). They should all offer the full 1Gb packages as well.

    Around 5 years after I got a letter saying Siro was on the way, they are finally going to connect me in the next few days. It took a lot of back & forth via email to get hold of someone local in Cork city who came to take a look & came up with an option of running a cable over a lane-way to connect to the gable of my house. Until then I was told it wasn't possible.

    got this from Siro re our estate. They had called few months ago asking for permission to run the wiring from house to house.. looks like its never coming.. why did they want to run from house to house if they mention buried ducting?

    Seems odd..

    We wish to let you know that SIRO could not connect your premises as it was found in the initial surveying of the area that the underground network is not suited to facilitate a fibre rollout for your premise. 

    The underground network in the area previously was not reinstated to a standard in which SIRO could facilitate a fibre rollout. 

    This issue is known as “direct buried ducting” and can affect a rollout on a singular premise basis or an entire estate.

    Regretfully we are unable to resolve the issue.

    Email them back and ask them. They skipped my estate as well as everything is underground, luckily open eir moved in and using their own ducts they brought in fibre.
