LRG at the moment but than can change anytime.

Thank you very much for that. LRG must be my lucky aircraft. My 4th flight on her.

Landed in JFK today (not on EI) and seeing two Aer Lingus planes was a nice sight and recalled nostalgia on seeing EI planes in far off places - one with old and the other had the new livery. Thought occurred on why that changed happened - what was striking and was different is now just bla bla. Anyway, just a nostalgic grumble - 10 years ago I would have found a way to be landing on EI metal rather than any alternative.

Looking at FR24, EI-NSA flew from London to Shannon on EI385 and would do EI386, EI387 and EI388 going back and forth between LHR and SNN but for some reason AL flew in EI-CVC to do EI386 and EI387 from DUB and will go back to DUB from SNN with NSA doing EI388, find it a bit odd could NSA have problems?

Could be a small tech issue and they sent CVC to in order maintain the schedule?!?

Aer Lingus management are not commenting publicly about the Dublin airport cap. Meanwhile the DAA, Ryanair and aspects of government are publically calling for it to be amended or scrapped.

Has the Aer Lingus CEO been replaced?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,884 ✭✭✭✭LXFlyer

Aer Lingus have already stated very clearly that the cap is causing Ireland damage and that it needs to go.

Just because some companies give continuous commentaries/briefings doesn’t mean that they all have to.

Ryanair have a history of being outspoken on such issues. It’s not achieved much to date!

Why would Aer Lingus be vocal about it?

    There position is well known.

All major airport stakeholders bar Aer Lingus and now the Minister for Finance are calling it for it be scrapped or amended.

Add this to the EI track record of late. An observer could easily conclude there is a vacuum of leadership at the airline currently.

EI and FR actually have joint proceedings underway about this mess. Screaming and shouting doesn't fix the cap, getting the high court to rule on it may at least release the slots at least

The matter is a live issue for public debate currently. Even the Minister for Finance is calling for it to be amended. The last public comment to Irish media on the matter by the Aer Lingus CEO was March of this year.

While it’s correct to say there is a High Court case pending - it is standard practice for senior management to concurrently make their case to the media on matters of such importance.

Think back to the days of Christoph Mueller or Willie Walsh. Would they have remained as silent on this issue as Lynne Embleton?

The lack of comment from the CEO and generally self destructive behaviour of management during the Pilot dispute gave the impression of a leadership vacuum. O'Leary has said the cap has prevented him from basing an additional 4 aircraft at the airport with a loss of over a million pax. Aer Lingus should be saying "we have 6 brand new Airbus Long Haul jets due to arrive in the coming x months. These would create x number of direct jobs and bring in x number of passengers generating x million for the Irish economy, as well as driving indirect economic growth and job creation in other industries in Ireland. If the cap remains, we may be forces to locate these aircraft in Manchester, costing the Irish economy these jobs, tourists etc".

They have permission to go to the high court but have they gone to it yet?

@HT Cone "If the cap remains, we may be forces to locate these aircraft in Manchester, costing the Irish economy these jobs, tourists etc".

Certain types of people would happily accept, or even demand any amount of loss to the national economy if it comes with a small gain to their local airport. It's generally wrongly dressed up as something virtuous like "decentralisation" or "helping the environment" and it gets amplified by an ignorant and/or cynical national media.

Remember not too many years ago, it was the received wisdom that the economy of the entire Western Seaboard from Donegal down to Kerry and right around to Waterford was dependant on the Shannon Stopover.

Any new routes coming for Cork and Shannon now airlines are being advised to divert traffic away from Dublin?
(That’s Sarcasm by the way) The nonsense that comes out of the ministers in this country.

Heard Hainan Airlines looking at SNN. The Chinese originating passengers have been told it’s the handiest airport on the Island.

Twice now you have been corrected on your assumption/declaration that EI haven't made any public statements in opposition to the DUB passenger cap.

    Stop being an ass.

  • Registered Users Posts: 28 StakeholderValue

Sorry you feel that way Tenger.

My above post you quoted says the last public comment to Irish media re:cap by the Aer Lingus CEO was in March earlier this year. 🤷‍♂️

Does MOL bleeting about it really have an effect? Has a significant portion of people not tuned him out after a lifetime of him complaining about something or other every other week, regardless of how important this particular issue is?

Emirates have now come out and made a public comment about the negative impact of the Dublin Airport Cap in todays Business Post.

One must remember Emirates are ( for ages ) wanting to put a third daily flight into Dublin. This can only create more jobs thus creating more revenue for Kildare Street.
Surely a win win for all.

  • Registered Users Posts: 117 ✭✭shamrocka330

But, but, but that’s not fair on Shannon and Cork, Emirates should be made to fly there. I’m assuming that Emirates have never heard of these airports, a small drive down to show them around plus the guarantee of 10 passengers a day should easily convince them to set up a hub there. Can’t understand why this hasn’t been done already.

Ei eav still in atlanta anyone know what happened to her

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,924 ✭✭✭Van.Bosch

we should offer Emirates 5th freedom rights to anywhere they want from Shannon

  • Registered Users Posts: 129 ✭✭Astral Nav

Think we pretty much did that to Ethiopian some years ago and the UAE got a very beneficial bilateral deal back in the Bertie years IIRC.

Kuwait has a tech stop only arrangement some years ago in SNN which was mutually beneficial.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,798 ✭✭✭Captain_Crash

Not saying this is what happened on this occasion as I don’t know, but it had turned back in recent weeks from both BOS and JFK because of issues related to underfloor heating in the cabin!

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,246 ✭✭✭kevinandrew

Been on its way home overnight, due to land back at DUB in about 30 minutes.

EI-EAV looks like weather as she has nearer MCO than ATL before heading off course

Thunderstorm activity in Florida most likely the reason
