From Egan's perspective, it's probably the better move, since he will game more game time injuries permitting

Is he Premiership standard still and does he hope for more International caps with Ireland?

I would like this team to get on the pitch against Chelsea this Saturday @ 12.30pm

    Areola

    AWB todibo kilman emerson

    soucek alvarez paqueta

    kudus bowen summerville

I think Emerson is an injury doubt, which means AWB will probably replace him, and Coufal for AWB - otherwise that's a shoe-in. Can't fathom why Mavropanos hasn't been replaced by Todibo yet, but we don't see behind the scenes, nor know J-Lo's plans. Mav is a decent CB, but just switches off sometimes; really looking forward to seeing Todibo, so this'll be interesting, considering Mav's howler last time round.

I'd prefer Rodriquez to Soucek against Chelsea- the latter isn't great defensively, and the Alvarez-Rodriguez partnership is looking good. Up front would be the same for me, but I wouldn't be at all surprised if J-Lo keeps Antonio, with Bowen RW and Kudus LW, and Summerville subbing later.

Maybe, J-Lo wants the first couple of months with roughly the same team as before, and begin to reshape it after then - it's unlucky to be having so many tough teams bunched together at the start as well.

I'm expecting him to start Soucek and Antonio. A decent test today against a more settled Chelsea line-up

The "careful what you wish for" gang when we were moving on from Moyes must be feeling pretty smug right now

Yeah, who are we to expect good-to-watch football, and dreaming of European football. That'll teach us.

Chelsea game a shambles, but with Steidtens' acquisitions, it's still far too early for anyone to know how things will pan out in the long run, never mind the medium term. In the short term, Soler probably needs to come in to sort out the midfield, but if Mavropanos starts again against Brentford over Todibo, I'll probably be one of those already to start shout for Lopetegui's head (unless of course Mavs does start and plays a blinder. We'll see).

Don't forget - 3rd round Carabao cup tonight against the 'pool tonight at 20.00. After we easily win this, the 4th round draw takes place. Can't wait to see our line-out this evening, and who we will play in the next round.

West Ham have taken up their full allocation of 5,000 tickets, so the Manager & Players should have great support as the fans have done their bit!

'Free' sports events tickets declared by MPs

West Ham Labour: Keir Starmer – two hospitality tickets for match worth £2,000 – 11 February 2024

What do you get for a £1,000 ticket at the London Stadium?

Supposedly we've had the second most difficult start of the league so far which goes some way to explaining our results so far. Not going to panic yet. The performances during those results (last weekend in particular) have been concerning but it was always going to be difficult coming in with and trying to gel so many new players into the team. I'm hoping that the fans don't get too toxic as we're one of the worst in the league for that when things don't go our way.

Brentford and Ipswich next should give us a much better idea of how we're going to do. 4 points from those would be a good platform for us to build on after the international break.

We've conceded in five of our six games so far. In four of them, we've conceded in the first 10 minutes. First 5 minutes in three of them. Tells you all you need to know about our defence at the moment.

I think the defence against Brentford will be the first choice now and will hopefully settle over the next few games. Todibo & Kilman with Emerson & AWB as the fullbacks.

It's the middle of the park where the issues are. Paquetá needs to be dropped for awhile now. Soler will hopefully improve and offer a more settled style. Antonio needs to be used as an impact for the first 60 mins or as a late 20 minute substitute.

Summerville deserves to be a starter while we still have to see how Fullkrug works out.

While a point at Brentford was earned, it's Ipswich at home next and it is vital that we get a win here with a performance that shows what Lopetegui is trying to create!

    ^^^^

It's anyone's guess what J-Lo is trying to create at the moment, what with the style of play the team he has inherited, and what has been hammered into them over the past season or so. On top of that, the players brought in seemed great on paper, but getting them to mesh during a changing style and system was never going to be easy. It is the midfield that seems to be the worst problem (aside from having no on-point striker at the mo).

On paper, Alvarez and Rodriquez in front of defense seemed most sense, but they are both getting caught out too much with any high pressing due to their lack of pace. Reverting to Soucek is most sensible at the moment then - he has the better pace for defending from advanced positions, and the instinct and height for attacking. Rodriquez is tenacious, and good at distribution, but is finding it really hard to adapt to the premiership - but looks like he could come good. Soler looks like another tenacious midfielder, and shows cleverness on the ball, but also finding the premiership difficult to adapt to. So for me it's Alvarez and Soucek, and although Paqueta is wobbly at the mo, we do need creativity until Soler is up to speed. Not mentioned much is Andy Irving, who was bought last year and immediately loaned out for the year. He could possibly be deployed with more game-time.

Agree with your post as it follows what I am thinking. I suppose we can suffer Paquetá as he is the only player who can open up a defence with his passing, but can we tolerate his wasteful play and losing the ball as it really can hurt us!

I must admit I do enjoy Paquetá. 😀

Let's hope Soler gets up to the pace and can influence the game more. Irving and Summerville deserve their chance, especially Summerville as he has pace and that attacking skill going forward.

All this talk makes the Ipswich game so interesting now!
