Old sky box problems

Plenty of channels gone on the SD box as they moved to HD.

Sky Hd box might only work with a card.

2 feeds needed

Not sure on the cards but maybe others are.

Also not sure if this card gives you recording rights ?

ginger, is there only one sat cable going to the old box. the sky hd box needs 2 cables unless you go into a so called secret menu and set it to single feed. The card you need is this one but brexit etc

Its long winded but first off plug in box and let it initialise, and if the box is from uk you wont need a card but when booted up do this.

1- On Sky remote select 'Services'

2- On services screen, press 0,0,1 and then press 'Select' This will open the Sky installer menu.

3- On the installer menu, scroll across and select 'Setup'

4- Scroll down to Single Feed Mode and switch from off to on.

5- Press the green button to store.

The box will now re boot and its slow, when it finally starts it may say no signal so just swop the cable at the rear, I have done this quite a few imes and I think the single feed input is the second one in.

Once you get a signal key in 506 and should be cnn. or press tv guide and select a channel bbc1 northern ireland just to prove box works. I never used the box with no card in so never had to check.

The second cable on the Sky+ HD box is only required for recording and to record you require a Sky subscription. Single cable is ok .

The new SkyQ box requires 2 cables alright as each cable carries a different signal polarisation.

I happen to be beside a Sky+HD box with an Irish sub right now.

I took out the card, the usual FTA channels are all there except channel 4, but scattered throughout the channel list.

A Freesat box is more user friendly with no blank subscription channels.

Not for Freesat, that's a Sky subscription box that'll display FTA channels that pay to be on the Sky guide.

Freesat is a specific type of satellite receiver.

ginger, did you get a signal? The idea of using the Sky uk fressat card is that you get all the uk channels lined up ie BBC1, 2, ITV etc.

And I bet if the cush disconnects a cable his box wont work. You will get the FTA channels on a Sky Irish card but no ITV unless you tune those in via other channels. And the irish channels will still show as 101 etc but wont open.

The box Cush linked is good and no card required its a basic FREESAT box needs one cable, to set up you enter a UK post code and it tunes automatically. its 83 euro on amazon, i get free delivery.
