Anybody enjoying this on a Sunday evening?

    I've watched all episodes.

I think to a lot of Irish people they are fairly
    recognisable when doing the pranks.

    Costumes could be better.

I also think it could be funnier

The Mass on RTE on sunday morning is funnier than The Full Irish Hidden Camera Show.

I'd rather watch Fair City than any hidden camera show.

I am kinda enjoying watching it with the kids. How more people don’t recognise Donnacha is odd. Doireann is unable to keep the prank going; other two are better. It’s a far cry from Mike Murphy

I think they seem to fool a lot of tourists/foreigners.

Doireann could fool me tough because I've zero idea what she looks like.

I actually quite like it though they could cut the bits of them in the car which are just filling time.

Was the Fear the last time RTE did a hidden camera show? That was fupping awful. This looks worse from the clips I've seen.

This is just so awful, couldn't bear more than a few minutes before turning the tv off in disgust. It's just so rubbish, it's beneath contempt.

I’ve flushed funnier things than this show down the toilet !

Jésus, I've just looked at a couple of clips. The typical "imbecileism" presenter that RTE loves. Can they not even look at professional "candid camera" presenters, that don't feel the need to act like children. Mike Murphy back in the day didn't feel the need to go around with a gaping mouth acting like a village idiot to do his stuff. There's also real professionals on tv like "Just for Laughs" (Denis Levasseur) that films in Canada which does it right. But there's enough of it out there without RTE wasting more licence fee money on giving us a poor relation of it.

    Ffs.

Haven't watched it but it strikes me as a way of justifying higher salaries for the three clowns.

Doireann has replaced Amy Huberman in RTE's eyes in shoehorning her into everything, chance after chance despite being talentless and unfunny….whomever told her she's funny should be arrested

Its handy having Ian Dempsey as a godfather. Without him she'd be nowhere near the career she has now.

Dreadful stuff. Worse than Callan Kicks the Year. RTE and comedy is a poor match.

Was the one with PJ Gallagher before or after that? Jake Stephens the newspaper whistler.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,332 ✭✭✭Hangdogroad

Naked Camera, that was a few years beforehand. Had its moments, though it was dragged out to three series.

There was a spin off which PJ Gallagher filmed in the States as Jake Stephens, Makin Jake. That was absolutely f***ing dreadful. It made no sense taking the character to America, carcrash stuff.

Donnacha comes across as a right dope in everything he does presenting wise, hosting, interviews etc.,

I just watched a few clips on youtube. The term godawful springs to mind. Mike Murphy with a fraction of the budget was doing this a long time ago but he managed his setups to be plausible and convincing.

A cleaner who goes around destroying anything dusty would last about 20 minutes in most shops. Actually nevermind, Im not even going to bother trying to poke holes in their plots.

I was thinking just the other day RTE used to do some good comedy shows. Nevermind the Gondolas, A scare at Bedtime to name just a couple. Why don't we do them any more?

If the likes of Damo & Ivor and Finding Joy managed a second series then anythings possible.

Slightly off topic. But with Damo & Ivor, I'm not going mad in remembering that Rick Mayall stared in one of the episodes

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,370 ✭✭✭RoTelly

He was their Father in the series. I think he starred in a number of episodes, but I didn't watch.

While they were able to shoe horn in a joke about Neil Morrissey into Finding Joy who had been in Striking Out with the then ubiquitous Amy, a drama everyone forgets.

Thanks. At least I'm not going mad. Jayus. Rick Mayall was either doing someone a favor, or was badly in need of cash.

Did it come before "Man Down"? Which I recommend, daft comedy with Greg Davis.

Indeed, but you'd have question why RTÉ put so much time and effort in to trying to develop her as a comic. She's not a bad presenter for DWTS but the rest of what she has done is largely Xposé type stuff … and DWTS isn't far off that.

Page 59 of RTÉ annual report

This is what is actually said in the annual report: -

Building on this model, 2023 also saw the continuation of a new development drive across the wider independent production sector to secure a new generation of original Irish content to sit alongside existing formats. Extensive work across several months has led to new commissions and pilots. One of the first to emerge debuted in Christmas 2022 as Adare Productions delivered a new entertainment show that united our broadcast platforms, bringing the stars of the 2FM breakfast show to screen. The Full Irish Hidden Camera Show, hosted by Doireann Garrihy, Donncha O’Callaghan and Carl Mullan, was a brand-new 30-minute programme combining elements of comedy and traditional prank show to produce something altogether new and contemporary. The show was well received by audiences and a full 10-part series has been
commissioned. Production is complete and the series will air in spring 2024.

Fortunately for you all I have translated and read between the lines: -

As we forget about this model from 2023 in 2025 we will continue with a new development drive across the wider independent production sector, bringing us banal programming and forcing producers to try to fit RTÉ presenters into formats that don't suit them. This work has lead to new commissions and pilots that will ultimate be forgotten. One of the first that we got away with was aired on Christmas Night 2022 helping to unite both RTÉ ONE (an older audience) with 2FM (a youth radio station) bring family entertainment to a new audience. Shoehorning Doireann Garrihy, Donncha O’Callaghan and Carl Mullan into a generic comedy stalwart of TV, a hidden camera show. As teenager's visited their granny at Christmas they were able to watch as Granny and Granada asked "Who are these people?" to which the Teenagers could look up from their phones, taking out their new airpods from their ears and say "I don't know", to which their grandparents would say "Speak up I am not wearing my hearing aids" by which time their teenage grandchild had gone back to their phone. In spring 2024 expect another exciting series.

flicked on the new series there briefly; as it it wasn't bad enough the first time they haven't even come up with new pranks; same chess competition, phone combustion unit and dental prank. awful show
