Some of the big boys in world football have been using it for years it seems. We are always accusing the FAI of being a backward organisation so maybe this is a step up technology wise. I don't see the issue.

You'd hope so, or at least if there's one spare and they haven't qualified then they might get it. But they shouldn't get one ahead of us, Wales, or Scotland if none qualify directly.

I think there will be 2 spots held in reserve for the best ranked host nations that do not qualify.

Just once we go back to what I call the core Irish style - put ‘em under pressure - long balls, high line, work like dogs to Harry and harass the opposition - this is what we need to get back to.

Whatever about the English we should not be losing to the likes of Greece or the mid tier teams - we are just as good if we can get back to our core style and make Dublin a place to be feared when the opposition have to come here.

Also good to see Tayo Adaramola go straight into the starting XI for Stockport on his return from injury. Stockport have started the L1 season unbeaten after winning L2.

Another option for LB/LWB. Has the athleticism and pace needed to play both roles. Pity he's only a few weeks overage to play U21s again next campaign. But if he can impress for a team who'll be challenging for L1 you'd hope he'd be pushing for our senior squad this season given our issues at LB.

But for a bit of context, that was 4 goals in a 9-1 win. And Troy had failed to score in the opening 4 games of the season.
He’s playing in a good team (in the context of the Eredvisie) but he hadn’t done a whole lot prior to the international break to warrant him jumping ahead of others.

However, I’m sure he’ll really kick on from here. That puts him joint leading scorer in the league and IMO he’s clearly a better player than Idah.

The plight of our international teams can only get worse following the decision of the FAI to discontinue the Emerging Talent Programme due to lack of funding. This decision will severely hamper the grassroots side of football and will severely impact on the quality of players for future Ireland teams. It's been a regular topic that we need to invest more in grassroot football in order to improve the quality of players on their path to representing their country. This decision is a backward step. I know they are making the decision based on lack of funding and advocated that we, the football community raise the question of funding when politicians call to our doors in the coming General election campaign. This is a very simplistic approach, they should be more proactive in seeking funding, their cut from betting tax is the target at the moment, in seeking more. Yet we have pledged €50M funding to casement park in NI. Can't help feeling that FAI could do with spending money on hiring a "Funding specialist " as they seem lacking in that area, always the poor relations when compared to GAA, Rugby, Horse racing and even Greyhound racing ?

Sad state of affairs, just to add I have seen at first hand the ETP in operation. One of my grandsons is on his third year of attending one of the centres and I have witnessed the great work by the coaching staff over the last 2 years and see the kids developing into better players . I doubt these coaches are on huge salaries.

can’t see any of the parties pledging money to the FAI. Unlikely to win any votes based on that

It's decent for a second division. The attendances are around the same as La Liga. Lots of big teams down there at the moment. Hamburg, Schalke, Koln, Hertha. Sky Sports have two or three games a week live on their YouTube channel

Great that he’s scoring, but it’s fecking Falkirk. Hopefully he can get into the Celtic starting team. And the next time he plays for Ireland, hopefully he shows a massive improvement from the dross he served up last time.
