Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Really enjoyed that one. Some thoughts:

    1. Cracking game of rugby, and a good atmosphere in lovely conditions. Connacht will feel they left that one behind, but very enjoyable all round.
    2. That said, Munster's error count just way too high. We shored up the early lineout issues, but other errors continued all game.
    3. Nank deserved MOTM, but Haley equally could've gotten it imo. Both had a fine game, just excellent all day.
    4. Casey was excellent, the poor bit of defending for Ioane's try aside. Was really in the wars as well, and made some excellent snipes. Clear yellow for Cordero for me, but thought it should've been looked at as a possible penalty try, not sure there was cover in behind.
    5. Tom Farrell had a bit of a mixed bag. Some brilliant stuff in attack but 1 or 2 mistakes defensively, biting in.
    6. Shane Daly is just routinely solid for us a this point, especially defensively but had some nices breaks for us as well today, like line-break off a set moved on 2nd phase in the 2nd half.
    7. Burns didn't have a great game by any means (the 2 kicks to touch, but he threw 2 hospital passes to Barron and Coombes as well) but you'd have to hope the injury isn't too bad. I wouldn't like to have to rely on Tony Butler and probably Rory Scannell until Crowley is available. Butler with a couple of costly missed tackles, but he'll learn from it.
    8. Thought Ruadhán Quinn was disappointing, was hoping for more from him.
    9. From a Connacht perspective, Josh Murphy had a fine game on both sides of the ball.
    10. Feels like I need a 10th point to round it out so…. welcome back Jean Kleyn.

Loved that game, 10 tries, 9 conversions and only one attempt at kicking a penalty. Both sides will be annoyed at their defence but some nice running rugby at times too.

New centre partnership, new halfback pairing and we score 5 tries, not to be sneezed at, at all.

We start the season with similar errors we had in the warm up games but I'll take a BP win in an InterPro anytime.

My thinking is that Butler could well be, but bringing Burns in will do little else but stall his (and someone like Hicks, albeit to a lesser extent) development. Obviously the squad is looking a little light on experience at 10 so it might make sense to bring in an older hand to guide the others in their development, i just don't think BB is of a high enough quality for that

A better player won't agree to be second fiddle to Crowley. Burns is the perfect back up. If Butler is good enough then he'll overtake Burns.

Should be looking at wins vs Zebre and Ospreys now, before the Leinster game and trip to SA. Think it's the first time since the SA teams have been added that we have them this early in the season?

Thought Abrahams was quiet, didn't really get into the game much. Decent kick or 2, mixed bag with his tackling, but on that evidence are we expecting the 1st choice back 3 to remain Daly, Nash and Haley? Or where does Kilgallen come into it when back from injury?

Take nothing for granted! We could very easily lose to Zebre and Ospreys if we don't wake up after the way we played on Saturday

I don't know if Burns is the man but we definitely needed someone of his experience now that Crowley is the starting Irish 10. It's only a one year contract too for Burns so worth the punt.

Connacht are a far better team than either Zebre or Ospreys. We should be looking at 10 points while reintegrating the rest of the internationals over the two games.

Thought Abrahams was quiet, didn't really get into the game much

The spoiling at ruck time didn't help fast ball so he probably suffered a bit by that, when Casey upped the tempo with with quick tap free kicks then we cut them open. Daly had a few good hits in defence, especially when we were trying to pen Connacht back in their own half late in the game. Hard to see Nash and/or Haley losing out so a few players are probably vying for the one spot

Daly's just so good defensively; once or twice (and in particular one late on around the 75th minute) he just shut down a 1-on-1, it slowed the attack and stopped all of Connacht's momentum. He's just so good at that, and on scramble. More than solid at the ruck too.

He gave away one penalty for crawling through a ruck in an attempt to counter ruck but other than that his defence was brilliant. He is great at presenting a ball for quick ball after being tackled to the ground.

as much as i agree that if hes good enough he'll overtake BB, it will be very hard for him to do that if hes barely getting any gametime.

Billy Burns was removed with a shoulder injury and will go for a scan. His availability for Saturday will be determined later in the week.

Patrick Campbell suffered a shoulder injury while in AIL action for Young Munster and will have a specialist review.

There is good news for Dave Kilcoyne as he returns to full training this week.

Continuing to rehab: Diarmuid Kilgallen (leg), Brian Gleeson (shoulder), Cian Hurley (knee), Tom Ahern (ankle), Rory Scannell (ankle), Paddy Patterson (knee), Edwin Edogbo (achilles), Roman Salanoa (knee).

With Scannell injured as well, even as a break glass option, that could leave us pretty short at 10 if Crowley isn’t back sooner rather than later.

what’s Damian McKenzie upto for the next couple of months…. 👀

Campbell just can't catch a break.

I thought they mentioned Ahern was with Jean Klyen in his final stages of rehab a few weeks ago. Hopefully we'll see him soon.

Rowntrees comments about Butlers defensive frailities was strange to say the least . Not very reassuring for a young player in his first Season as 1st team squad member

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,013 ✭✭✭50HX

He called it correctly, I fail to see how "we had a chat there & he knows he has a lot of work to do in the defensive channell " is some how you viewing him not reassuring a young player when it was preceeded by "I am proud of him"

Jaysus nobody can take some criticism anymore

I like Rowntrees interviews esp post match as he v honest

Finally got to watch the match, very scrappy but a decent win with the basics to work on - not a bad platform to launch your season from.

I was delighted for Haley, he finished last season in a poor vein of form (by his very high standards) so this game will set him up nicely in terms of confidence this season.

It was mentioned last week that he's due back for the Ospreys game. I'm sure if needed he could sit on the bench on Saturday.

I heard it somewhere last week that he was a little behind Kleyn but not too far away either. Hopefully not too far, would love to see him kick on from last season's form and maybe get an Ireland shot in the AI's.

Cian Hurley seems to be another in the "can't catch a break" group.

Signing for Leinster as injury cover for Jordie Barrett.

After the match on Saturday, in the dressing room, the 3 new caps were welcomed to the squad (in front of their families) and presented with their jersey, each by a player.

    Nice touch.
