Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    hi all,

As the (very specific) title suggests can anyone recommend a pub in Dublin City centre or south Dublin suburbs, that has a bit of live music, serves good food and welcomes young families, on a Sunday.
Ideally myself and the missus just want to go for a dinner with the kids and listen to some live music so the kids can see a live band playing music.
Also 2 or 3 beers, then the bus home.
Any recommendations and help greatly appreciated.

Temple Bar might fit the bill. But it could be a bit hectic

Live music during kid-allowed hours is pretty rare and often limited to trad performances rather than bands.

yeah even trad would be great.
The kids are going mad to see some guitar/ singing/ musical instruments live.
It’s mad how difficult it is to find something like this!

Yeah might be a bit much tbh.

O'Neills on Suffolk Street would probably tick the boxes here

I’ve contacted them to see what time music starts and if it’s carvery or a la carte etc.

5:30s probably a bit late to have the kids in the pub I’d say.
We’d be looking to be back on the bus at that stage i reckon or getting ready to go anyway.
    thanks though- keep em coming!

The Arlington on the quays does food and music. I'm not sure what time it starts though but worth a call

I rang Johnnie fox’s and they have music from 2pm on a Sunday until 4, you have to book as it’s quite busy but this might be an option, depending on the bus service 🧐

    edit

I don’t think the bus that goes to Johnny foxes (44B) operates at the weekend ffs 😱

The Brazen Head has a trad session on Sundays from 4pm on I think. Food is OK, Guinness lovely. Ring and check.

    Not your ornery onager

You could get a bus to Kilternan or Stepaside village and then a taxi up & back.

Serious risk of getting stranded at Jonny Fox's

Bus service for op is infrequent to non existent.Taxis are not waiting outside, have to be prebooked and make sure no one else takes it when it arrives.

Have you considered a DART out to howth? The abbey Tavern on Sundays I think have a show and dinner starting around 7pm which I think is child friendly. But you'd have to ask them that. But I see them mentioned on a list of "Irish Dinner Shows" which might be an article worth reading. It mentions things like "Or get the kids involved in the fun at Celtic Nights at the Arlington Hotel just off O’Connell Street. With sean nós (old style) dancing choreographed for maximum audience participation, they’ll be dancing like the pros in no time."

    https://www.visitdublin.com/guides/irish-dinner-shows

But right at the DART station there is the "Bloody Stream" which has a "sunday sesh" that starts about 4pm with music.

    https://bloodystream.ie/sunday-sesh/

Their menu is online and there is an online table booking form for booking tables indoors or in the heated beer garden.

And they seem to have an Oktoberfest coming up which might be a laugh:

    https://bloodystream.ie/oktoberfest/

It's been a few years since I was at the bloody stream. But I still remember the "Sea Food platter" I had when I was there. It was wonderful. I hope the standards are still good today on that one.

Freenow and uber work fine up there, you don't need to prebook, just call one when you're ready to leave

It's only down the road from Stepaside, sandyford, kilternan, Shankill, It's not in the middle of nowhere these days and its busy all the time so taxis get loads of work out of it

Anyway the poster probably doesn't want to get taxis with the kids in tow so doesn't really matter for him

Another option for Johnnie Foxes is to take the Luas to the Ballyogan or Leopardstown stop and get a Freenow or Uber from there.

12 mins in a taxi. Then same back down.

Another alternative is the Harbour Bar in Bray. Music starts at 4pm on a Sunday and is really good quality. Easy Dart out

folks, thanks you all for the suggestions.

I think a taxi isn't happening so that's johnnie fox's out of the equation which is unfortunate. (cant believe that bus doesn't run on a Sunday!!)

My next ones to check are:

The brazen head- easy to get to in the City Centre, the music starts at 3pm, food looks decent! Definitely a runner. thanks @Esel

Devitts on Camden street- this would be a great option, and from the website they are saying there's a trad session from 2pm and food served from 12 - 9pm. ill ring to make sure families are welcome. This is also really easy for us to get to by bus. Thanks for the suggestion @wandererz

The Bloody stream is a bit far out but this could be an adventure for the kids getting a bus and a dart to head to Howth- close to the beach and the marina, so there'll be plenty to do and see. The music starts from 4PM which might be a little bit later than we would like, as itll probably take us the guts of 2 hours to get back home from Howth. Great suggestion though @taxAHcruel

The harbour Bar in Bray is a bit far out also as its about 1hr 45 on PT going by todays times, so probably longer on a Sunday id imagine- but again a bit of an adventure. Music starts at 4:30pm so same sort of thing as the bloody stream. thanks for the suggestion @DelmarODonnell
