Hi all, does anyone know how long it takes from when you submit your Garda vetting to starting your employment? I submitted mine yesterday but would like to know so I can give my present job notice.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 81 ✭✭Dublin.85

My Garda vetting took about 2 weeks to be completed. Then about a week after that, I got contract for new job and agreed on a starting date, which was about 4 weeks later.

  • Registered Users Posts: 204 ✭✭Damoedge

@Dublin.85 thanks so much for your quick reply. So it looks like about 7 weeks, that's good to know thanks again.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 81 ✭✭Dublin.85

No problem. Yeah about that give or take a week or two. I think they wanted me to start 2 weeks earlier then I actually did. So could be approx 5-7 weeks. That was 2 years ago.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 693 ✭✭✭brianomc

It took about 2 weeks for my garda vetting to be approved, and then i got an email to say that i would start work around 5 weeks later.

Thats this year’s competition, Dublin, mid 20’s OOM.

A Google search will find it and it's also attached on a post on page 1 of this thread.

I just googled it the last day, won't let me copy the pdf link here but it's on page 1.

no one in Monaghan had been interviewed as of last week anyway. last year was October before top 5 or 10 interviewed I think.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2 Molloy16

I’m number 36 on Dublin panel, vetting and all completed. People I work with in the 100’s are getting offered places.
Anyone else high on the panel that hasn’t got offered?

  • Registered Users Posts: 6 duffyfluffy

Last year they only got to no. 6 on the panel, as far as I know in Monaghan

    @Molloy16,

I am in the same boat here. I am a number before you. I called a couple of times since Monday. Finally got to speak to someone this morning. I got an email afterwards with a timeline.

You could send an email to the person that did your clearance for the latest update.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2 Molloy16

@ ink1hi, yes I’ve email them twice. Last reply is I’m writing it up this week. 2 days later still waiting. Wonder if it the same person as you

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 102 ✭✭summersun23

TThe vetting can take ( significantly) longer for certain depts eg guards

  • Registered Users Posts: 25 monaghan2022

Anyone have any info on the reference process? How many references do they ask for and do they need to actually speak to the reference on the phone for the check? My last workplace has a policy of only giving a letter saying you worked there for a given timeframe and won't do anything else, will they ask for more than that?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 84 ✭✭Newbie12345The

They'll accept that as most companies only give a statement of reference… Two is the number they ask for

  • Registered Users Posts: 6 duffyfluffy

    @monaghan2022

When I rang PAS they told me they only got to 6 on the CO panel for 2023 for Monaghan. I didn't get called for 2023 cos was in the early 30's.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10 BobsUncle

They contact the referees by email and send a template form to be completed.

If you have a current or the most recent employer that refuses to complete form then PAS may ask for a character reference from some group you are involved with say for volunteer/sports groups instead.

I was in similar situation during covid, as was made redundant due to close of business so PAS accepted the written reference from employer with a 3rd character reference completing the form instead of most recent employer.

Does anyone know how long it takes for them to get back to you after the Garda Vetting Disclosure has been sent. Its been about a week now and I did email a few days ago and haven't gotten a reply. I think the job is to do with the HSE.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 60 ✭✭smalltalker

I am wondering this too. My Garda vetting is complete but movement since then has been very slow. They asked me for a Statement of Liability from Revenue - I don't know why. I'm self-employed so sent in the equivalent. Since then no response, emailed them after a week and still nothing back.

    Hi all,

Had my interview this morning (Dublin). I’m New and clueless to all this. Assuming it went well, what’s the next step? If I pass the interview Do I go on a panel and can put in expressions of interest as jobs arise like in HSE or are you just allocated to a department and if it doesn’t suit for any reason that’s it you’re off the panel?

  • Registered Users Posts: 89 ✭✭Tr1ckieD1ckie

If you pass your interview stage, in communication of the result of your interview, Public appointments service may highlight to you specific departments or offices within the public service who are seeking specific expressions of interest and present. Otherwise, it’s a matter of waiting for your OOM number to be reached and being assigned to a Department for clearance.

to note I don’t expect that HSE will be sourcing candidates from this competition, they don’t employ this grade and recruitment for HSE clerical grades is done separately.

Thanks for reply. Sorry wasn’t clear, I know they’re different panels/organisations. Was just wondering as I’ve only experience with HSE as they (apparently I’ve still to see any due to recent freeze) post jobs that come up snd people on panel can express interest in applying. Was just wondering if it was same way or if successful candidates are just placed in a department when it reached their OOM. Was wondering if there was any choice involved or if you just accept wherever you’re place. Kind of one shot or you’re out kinda scenario 😬

Ive just received an email this morning and sent off my forms for Garda Vetting, employment details etc

Is it just a case now of waiting for the Gardai vetting to be completed and il be offered position in a Dept?

  • Registered Users Posts: 951 ✭✭✭furrybones

Assuming you pass the interview (best of luck to you🍀) and PAS reach your OOM, you will be put into Clearance. At that point you will be asked to provide references/statement of service and complete garda vetting. Once clearance is complete you will get a message on your publicjobs account telling you which Dept you are being assigned to.

And unfortunately.. yes, if you don't accept you are off the panel. I think there might be some rule around being able to decline and stay on the panel if the Dept you're assigned to is over a certain distance from your home, but I'm not 100% sure on the details of that, or if it is even still the case that you can do that.
