Tracer knocked over - where to go for repair?

Neighbour reversed into my Tracer 900 knocking it over. Bit of obvious damage: Puig auxiliary light smashed, brake pedal bent, front brake calliper leaking and plenty of scrapes.

I'm going to claim off their insurance because, even though they made a casual offer to pay the bill for repair, they'll have no idea how expensive repairs can be.

I want all damaged & scraped parts replaced. Yeah, maybe I'm being a bit of a prick, but it's a clean, low-mileage bike and I want it back the way it was.

Any suggestions where to go / avoid for repairs & a full check to make sure all's good?

I'd second somewhere like Danfays better off going to a dealership.
I'd wait until you are in contact with their insurance before going ahead though to confirm as they might have a yamaha specialist they use, or they'll try to delay paying out to find some minor reason to avoid (its insurance companys they hate to actually having to pay out)

Bike's not moving until I get insurance details. Last bike was hit too but I took the financial pain that time. I'm fed up being on the receiving end of others carelessness.

first off , report to the cops, just go down and log it in the station so they have a record. draw a simple diagram of house / drive where bike was and where the neighbour hit it.

to get assessment of costs, go to Danfay Yamaha direct so a dealer isnt adding on their cut to the parts etc. Danfay will log the damage and list the parts/labour and give you an invoice estimate i am sure.

a glaring fact is your neighbours attitude - like most other clowns, dismiss hitting a biker or knocking a bike over and consider it a trivial matter.

take a picture of his car insurance disc, and his reg and the part of the car where he hit the bike, it may be scratched / marked?

Garda will only be interested if someone was injured. Take photos of the vehicle positions and of the other party's insurance details etc. Then bring your bike to any bike shop who will do a crash estimate for you - I went to the Kawasaki Centre workshop before even though the accident happened in Tallaght - car reversed into the bike on it's sidestand and did over 3k worth of damage in my case.

Yep, her attitude wasn't great "it's not damaged", "I'm surprised the bike fell over - I only nudged it", etc. Thankfully, I have cctv footage so there's that.

Did call in to the Garda Stn and showed them the footage and they said to come back if there's any difficulty getting insurance details. I stopped short of making it official though; really want to avoid this becoming very messy with a neighbour - who needs that? Garda was 100% sound, to be fair.

I'm no rookie biker but I've never dealt with Danfay, so cheers for that recommendation.

It's normal procedure for the other Party's Insurer to insist on being provided with a "Pulse No." ( Report No.) when you make a claim. So, I'd head back to the Cop Shop, make an official report and get the number. It's obvious that there wasn't a Guard who witnessed this, but the Insurers will use any excuse to either delay paying out, or refuse the claim altogether. If there's no independent witness then the Insurers will usually head to the Guards for their take on it.

If you're referring to scrapes on Plastic Panels these will nearly always be replaced with new ones, assuming you want your Bike back to the condition it was in prior to this. This won't be particularly cheap.

And don't be too worried about getting "messy" with your neighbour. She's already taking the piss by pretending it's nothing. If it was you that scratched her Car with your Bike do you really think that she would be as quiet as you have been ???

You haven't done anything wrong, she has. And now she has to pay for it…..either out of her own pocket, or through her Insurer.

As already mentioned Danfay would be your best bet. Don't be surprised if her Insurers keep fobbing you off with random Bullsh!t . This is normal. You may have to get a Solicitor involved just to get paid. It's not a big deal, it's just the way it works sometimes.

    Best of luck with this.

Danfay is an importer/distributor, they do not do crash estimates. A bike shop will do the crash estimate and send the parts list to Danfay for prices.

Danfay don't do repairs at all then?

Believe it or not, I only picked the bike up from Mototechnic the day before it was knocked over. Had left it in for a full service & other bits (€425 that didn't get me too far). Robbie knows his stuff but he said he's winding down this year - not sure if he would welcome the hassle of a job like this.

Danfay is a Yamaha parts importer/distributor. They certainly do not do bike repairs or anything like it. They'll sell you the parts you need to fix it though. If you're Southside bring it to Stefan in Scott's Bikes - Harold's Cross.

I dont work / affiliated to Danfay.

they are a main YAMAHA dealer and YAMAHA distributor. Go look at their new setup at Newlands Cross, its a walk-in bike shop - with a showroom - which is very impressive.

they carry out sales, repairs, warranty and servicing , so there is NO reason why they wouldnt do an estimate for someone for yamaha parts / bike thats been damaged.

    @ One Who Waits

    just call Danfay and ask.

ah OK, I was talking about the warehouse in Sallynoggin, didn't realise they now have a shopfront in Newlands, apologies OP. Even still, the shop is to sell Yamaha products and provide after-sales service for those products. Bilke repairs and crash damage estimates I would very much doubt they have anything to do with.

Like all Main Dealers (Cars and Bikes) I can imagine they would be only too happy to take people's money and farm out the work.

That's the way it always has been, and continues today.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 351 ✭✭Banzai600

you cant and dont know that for a fact. Maybe the OP will let us know when they speak ot DF.

You're assuming that Danfay will admit that they get someone else to do Crash repair work.

Most Dealers will use phrases like "our repairers", etc.

But that's not really the issue here.

BTW, how do you know that I'm not Derek Keany ???

So, it's been 10 days and no attempt to contact me so took her insurance details off her car window this morning and lodged a claim. I can expect to hear from a claims handler within 48hrs.

Will contact Danfay when it gets to repairs stage and suss what repairs, if any, they provide.

good on ya, it just shows the contempt and ignorance from ppl these days in general. good luck with it.

Rang Danfay and the bike's booked in next week for inspection & repairs estimate (flat fee for this job is €160).  Appears they do the work themselves in Newlands Cross and the 2 people I spoke to were sound which is not always the case when you ring a bike shop.

Good stuff. Any contact from the neighbour or their insurance company since?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,446 ✭✭✭One Who Waits...

Insurance company contacted me to confirm their customer had admitted liability and advised me to proceed with getting the bike inspected and to submit an estimate for repair / transport costs.

No contact from the driver - the 'man of the house' was nominated as spokesperson once insurance company got involved and asked if I'd consider not going through insurance. Said I would let them review the estimate before I submit to insurer but made it clear it's not for negotiation and I won't be cutting corners. If it's scraped or damaged, it gets replaced.

"oouffhh" Sucks air in through teeth. "thats a bit pricey lad, its only a bike cant be worth that much", "let me get a qoute for that" * proceeds to get qoutes for scrap tracer parts." see your qoute is a ScAaAaMmM lad"

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,446 ✭✭✭One Who Waits...

Yeah, that won't be tolerated. Any bullsh!t and the estimate goes straight to the insurer along with a claim for a replacement bike while mine's off the road.

I'm trying to be fair(ish) but underneath it all I'm raging about the whole thing.

    Any further update.

Other party opted not to settle when they got a copy invoice for repair & transport (just under €2K) so it was submitted to their insurer.

Insurer agreed to pay costs of repair and transport to / from Danfay but not the cost of a replacement rental bike. Offered a replacement car instead (much, much cheaper), which I didn't need. Just couldn't be bothered fighting with them but they did offer €600 for loss of use so I left it at that. Still waiting on that €600 plus the transport costs, which I paid, to appear.

Got my bike back at the weekend. Danfay were 100% to deal with and I wouldn't hesitate to deal with them again, so fair play for the suggestions above.

Robbie from Mototechnic did initially agree to look after the job but was under serious pressure to get things wound up when I rang him, and who knows how long this might have taken to sort.
