Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. I know this might be seen as a controversial opinion, but Dom is living off a few good games at the very start of his Liverpool career and aside from a month or so of really good form, he’s shown very little quality since. He works hard, has a good shot on him but his passing and dribbling are overrated IMO. Gives the ball away far too often.

He’s still pretty young and has time to develop into the player we want him to be though. I’m absolutely not writing him off, he just isn’t quite there yet and that’s okay.

I don't think he's dribbling is below standard, likewise with his passing. The problem is when he decides to do either in certain situations. The guy is a unbelievable powerful runner, with great strides and can carry the ball comfortably from his box to the opposition half.

However, that style only works in certain situations, like when we quickly counter from deep, or if the balls gets to him with space to run into, like what happened numerous times against UTD for example. But, Sob often tries these types of runs, in tight areas higher up the pitch where there is simple no space and he inevitably gives the ball away.

Likewise with his passing, you can see his technically well above competent on ball and should have no issue keeping it simple. But that's a major issue for him, time after time he tries ridiculous first time passes, in ridiculous situations, when a composed simpler pass was the best option. It's like he feels like he has to be doing something amazing every few minutes to let us know he's on the pitch instead of just doing the basics and wait for the opportunity to impress.

I do think, like yourself, that there is a top class player in there.

Thought we would see more rotation tonight with Palace away early on Saturday. Although I guess Jota, Chiesa and Elliott are all unavailable.

Me too. Arne is the boss, buy he's very fond already of using (flogging?) the same core of 12 or 13 players.

Hope he knows what he's doing, this game should be won either way, even rotating a few more positions IMHO.

What was the booing and singing over the CL song for? I couldn't make it if it was Liverpool or Bologna fans, but nice spicy atmosphere.

    Same.

I guess we have to assume that Slot is still trying to learn about his team (game 10 is it), and also his team have to learn his ways. So he might be just trying to force it through to the same 13 players before trying to rotate more freely.

And then assume that he thinks he can win the game by 60 and rest players then. Hopefully!

One thing to note with Slot's rotation too is his style of play is more measured than Klopp's so more in-game type resting.

Klopp could have some games that went helter skelter and chasing lots of goals, because it was fun, and also to secure the win through scoring goals. But Slot seems to be a lot more control based after getting the lead.

The passes from VVD and Trent 🤑

We're also not conceding first every match and having to chase the game. That'll help put some extra miles on the legs as well.

Edit: almost spoke too soon… phew

    Great ball in by salah

Loving passing move all round, smart 1-2 between Mac and Szobo, then Nunez makes the right play out wide to Salah

Right, let's open the fcking floodgates now.

    Ahh nunez stay onside

    Mr Offside

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,130 ✭✭✭✭Fitz*

Ignore the dour Ronnie Whelan there. It was a very good run by Nunez but the defender did brilliantly and jumped at the exact time that the pass was played, so he moved the line himself and played Nunez off. If VVD did that, it would be in highlights reels!

Obscenely good pass from Alisson. Holy Christ.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,414 ✭✭✭facehugger99

This could be wrapped up by halftime if we keep playing like this

Obviously finishing needs to improve though.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,965 ✭✭✭✭Osmosis Jones

Salah gets handled like that 10 times a game and the ref tells him to get off the floor

This playing out from the back is bit of a shambles

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,620 ✭✭✭Damien360

This short pass stuff out from the keeper will be the death of me

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,620 ✭✭✭Damien360

Woeful defending from that free kick. Should be 1-1

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 780 ✭✭✭patsy sally

All over the place lucky to be still ahead

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,398 ✭✭✭✭Utopia Parkway

Blessed not to concede in the last 5 minutes there. Coughing up a lot of possession in bad spots due to Bologna’s pressing.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,662 ✭✭✭DJIMI TRARORE

Shambolic defensive performance, all over the fcuking place

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22,304 ✭✭✭✭citytillidie

Liverpool fans have been booing it since after Paris

Feck, if Diaz had just left that, Nunez and Mo were behind him in much better positions.

Both CBs on a yellow with barely a tackle between them

Both centre backs on yellows now

Allison isn't overly comfortable playing this way. If we're going to play this, we should be picking Kelleher.

Silly booking for Ibou there. Very chaotic performance all around again though.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 28,399 ✭✭✭✭TitianGerm

That was awful from the ref to book Konate and the Bologna lad. All he needed to do was tell them to cut it out.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,811 ✭✭✭Ottoman_1000

Hectic stuff from both sides, Allisson does not look comfortable and it's causing chaos at thr back for us....Szobo has been very good to be fair to him.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,068 ✭✭✭✭~Rebel~

Ah Alisson is very comfortable with his feet too. Maybe not quite as much as Kelleher, but he's still a very good ball playing keeper himself.

Elsewhere, Szobo has gotten some really important interceptions and turnovers.

Grav continuing to look very good across the board too.

Szoboszlai putting it a very strong shift running backwards and covering, harrying, winning it back etc.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,068 ✭✭✭✭~Rebel~

In fairness, if you fall having to jump over someones outstretched leg while sprinting, it's still a foul.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,965 ✭✭✭✭Osmosis Jones

Frustrating one with Salah there as there's no contact but he falls because he has to jump out of the way of the flailing leg

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,811 ✭✭✭Ottoman_1000

A lot of it is down to what Allisson is at on the kick outs. For whatever reason he does not look comfortable at all and has given at least 3 hospital passes out!!

Mo made a run, passed the defender, the defender stuck a late leg out - he didn't hit Mo, but Mo had to jump over the leg, and fell as a result. That is still a foul, as the defender's action is what directly resulted in Mo losing possession.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,650 ✭✭✭theoneeyedman

MO has yer man on toast, but his passing has been atrocious, he's butchered several chances.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 28,399 ✭✭✭✭TitianGerm

Liverpool better for the first 25, Bologna the better team for the next 10 and then it was very back and forth for the last 10.

Enjoyable enough game so far but need to tidy up a bit playing out from the back.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,965 ✭✭✭✭Osmosis Jones

How much more mileage are RTE going to get out of "isn't it funny how they're both bald"?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,965 ✭✭✭✭Osmosis Jones

Btw how good is Grav, that one where he just knocked it forward ten yards and strolled throigh the entire Bologna midfield to collect it was brilliant.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,811 ✭✭✭Ottoman_1000

Bar that crazy 15 minutes where we lost all composure playing from the back, we have bizarrely played some of our best football outside of that.

Some of the passing and movement, up until the final pass has been excellent.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,811 ✭✭✭Ottoman_1000

Got blatantly pulled back too and not even a free, it should have been a stonewall yellow!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,215 ✭✭✭shamrock55

Stopped playing after 10 mins why???

Poor last half hr of that half

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,130 ✭✭✭✭Fitz*

That 15 mins was worrying. Definitely something work on where playing it out from the back. Especially against better teams.

The weird thing is not like its an alien concept as the players can do it, and have done it previously. They used to go long a small bit under Klopp, are they focusing too much on not doing it now?

And the heads went a bit, which is even more worrying! Settled back again eventually though tbf

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,068 ✭✭✭✭~Rebel~

Would reverse that myself - was 30 decent minutes, 10 bad ones, and 5 niggly ones.
