Putin is supping at the last chance saloon. He will not be in power a year from now because he is very bad for business. He has managed to maintain the imagine of a hard man to the Russian population, but the ukrainian invasion shattered that and the tame media cannot ignore it and is telling the public that they are on the losing side. Drone strikes on Moscow rams the message home. Without the venear of success Putin is a dead man walking and it will be one of his own that does it.

Or the next guy is the same, or even worse the country collapses and all their weapons land on the black market. Not great options.

Laughable. Ukraine is getting battered, even with EU weapons. Zelensky will be begging for a negotiation before next summer.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,199 ✭✭✭thatsdaft

Russia collapsed before 30 years ago, the world is a better place since, just ask half of Europe east of the old west Germany border

Meanwhile instead of worrying about theoretical hypothetical worry about currently Russia teaching the fecks in Iran how to build nuclear weapons and rockets and arming and sending mercenaries to grab resources in Middle East and Africa, because spending a decade dropping barrel bombs and chemical weapons in Syria next door wasn’t good enough for them

When they deliberately target the Press who are there to report truth then they have completely lost any respect or regard a decent person could have for their cause.

To funny. Ukraine is getting battered but that doesnt means Putin can win. The momentum has shifted.

Can I just clarify something, the whole Iran is about to get nukes seems to be a recurring threat since the US installed Shah was ousted.

Plus why would Iran use a nuke on Israel if it also kills those Iran wants to protect from Israeli genocide?

There is a huge amount of millennial thinking on both sides, egged on by the influential evangelical lobby in the USA. Far to many people on all side want to see the end times.

Palestinians definitely see their salvation as that final battle on that armegedion hill. I heard it directly from a Palestinian refugee educated to PHd level. Don't underestimate the power of religious fanatism to kill us all.

Lot of Iranian hardware down today.

In the front to the south of Ukraine:

The IDF have told civilians up to 30km from the border to evacuate , basically all the areas where Hezbollah are in the south.About 10km north of Litani river.

Lots of Russian rockets and missiles captured in caves in South Lebanon.

Why does a neo fascist regime (that can’t spend a day without threatening everyone in Europe with WW3 and nukes) bombing the **** out of another country make you happy?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 40,692 ✭✭✭✭Boggles

is that why the majority of the worlds population are risking their lives to get into “the west” as refugees and economic migrants in their millions

Did you read that on Facebook?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,657 ✭✭✭yagan

Trump really crossed the Rubicon in supporting the Zionists with moving the US embassy to Jerusalem.

If you were Palestinian it was confirmation that the US was greenlighting your destruction. So who's the fanatic?

Russia has advised all of its citizens to leave Israel. Apparently Russians make up 10/15% of the population. Interesting times ahead.

The IDF looking for a buffer zone for their buffer zone?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,199 ✭✭✭thatsdaft

    I don’t use Facebook, it’s a cesspit of stupidity

    My point stands:

I don’t see any hordes of refugees and migrants trying to get into Russia, China or Iran

How come? Is it because these are not particularly great places to live where even the people from these countries goto extreme lengths to escape

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 40,692 ✭✭✭✭Boggles

    My point stands:

    Your point is mental.

The majority of the worlds population is not risking their lives trying to get into the West.

Own the stupidity of it and move on.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,199 ✭✭✭thatsdaft

Thanks for confirming my point, millions more would happily immigrate to the decadent west (but not Russia/China/Iran) but don’t have the means or risk appetite to do so, millions more per year do make the move

    Thanks for confirming my point

Your point was a figment of your imagination as is the idea that I have confirmed it.

Zero point engaging with that level of Mitty, have a good one.

Considering most of the settlers in illegal Israeli settlements in Palestine are of Russian origin

Them f**king off back to Russia sounds like a win win win for everyone

    Sky news

The Lebanese army has fired back at Israeli forces for the first time since the conflict began a year ago, a Lebanese security source has told Reuters.

The army itself said it fired at the "source" of an Israeli strike on a Lebanese military post in the south that killed one of its soldiers.

The news comes just hours after the army reported another Lebanese soldier was killed and one injured after being targeted by an Israeli strike while on a rescue mission with the Red Cross.

Makes sense …Russia is in dire need for more cannon fodder

A total of 1,974 people, including 127 children, have been killed in Israeli attacks on Lebanon in the last year, the Lebanese health minister has said.

Some 9,384 have been injured, Firass Abiad added.

one analysis I saw but it seems reasonable Iran essentially showed their teeth but was contained and not designed to cause max/indiscriminate damage, Israel probably understated the damage to show strength and motivate their people.

The US wont want 200$ oil before an election so will be sending a calming message, so its kind of up to Israel but it seems they wouldnt have a good enough excuse to go all out

Probably going to clear out infrastructure , fighter etc but I doubt they will aim to put a buffer up that far.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,388 ✭✭✭Potatoeman

Far better relationship then, very different dynamic today. It’s also a major concern that Pakistan is on the brink of financial default, while dealing with insurgents. Collapsing nuclear armed nations are extremely dangerous for everyone.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,199 ✭✭✭thatsdaft

    In the long run

Countries using threats of using nuclear weapons to expand their already largest empire in world is a bigger threat as it sets a precedent where everyone and their dog now wants these weapons, and the only country to have willingly de nuclearised forever used as an example why this is a bad idea

Imagine if Israel start threatening all their neighbours with nuclear weapon use unless they handover 25% of their countries and demand regime change and more, the posters here be up in arms, but that’s exactly what Russia been doing for three years now

I would hope so. If the UN failed to enforce the resolution and Hezbollah were using the zone to launch attacks on Israel, it's very hard to blame Israel wanted to clear it out.

If so, you should be able to cite the specific provision of international law (either Geneva Convention or the Convention on Certain Conventional Weapons would likely be your best bet) which states such.

I have already explained the error of the statement to you directly in post #374 back on page 8, in case you missed it. People always seem to forget the subsections of treaties or legislation.

On other matters, some incredible footage of the ballistic missile attack was posted by a stargazer in Jordan. FB link, but I can't find a good one online. Has shades of the old 'Missile Command' Atari game. The 1980s future is now…

You can see the two levels of defense. For the first couple of minutes (Don't worry, it's compressed time) you can only see the Arrow intercepts. When the camera is zoomed out in the end, you can see the David's Sling intercepts right above the horizon which got past the Arrow system.

Various reports out of Lebanon, members of the Red Cross saying they and other humanitarian workers have been specifically targeted by the Israeli forces, reports of White Phosphorous being dropped in civilian areas, a medical facility being bombed, Israel exchanging fire with and killing members of the Lebanese national army too, putting paid to the utterly braindead claims that they're only fighting Hezbollah and not invading Lebanon, the land they believe belongs to them based on extremist religious zealotry and they've invaded multiple times in the past long before Hezbollah existed. There are also reports that Nasrallah had settled on a ceasefire which is why Israel took him out to keep their desire for escalation going.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,388 ✭✭✭Potatoeman

It’s not the threat, it’s the vacuum of a government collapse and subsequent disappearance of military assets.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 52,522 ✭✭✭✭tayto lover

And they were protected all the time by their friends …. the IDF.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 40,692 ✭✭✭✭Boggles

None of that is really new. Aid workers, Paramedics, Doctors, Nurses and journalists are fair targets for the Israeli regime.

So the next time the likes of US or anyone else supporting the regime try and pontificate to other dictatorships targeting the same they haven't a leg to stand on.

The problem in Lebanon is the worlds media has descended on Beirut, it's only a matter of time before the IDF kill a well known western journalist and only then will the mood music change en masse.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,199 ✭✭✭thatsdaft

Once again you are talking about a hypothetical (ignoring there’s already example of last time Russia collapsing being a net positive for humanity) on one hand

While I’m talking about actual current events and affairs where the whole world is getting some fairly terrifying lessons from Russian actions, even if one ignores their rhetoric

Lessons that push us all closer to WW3

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,388 ✭✭✭Potatoeman

The collapse wasn’t the net positive it should have been, the Russian oligarchs come from the collapse and subsequent asset grab. Many military and police officers went into organised crime. The whole situation could have been handled far better with better outcomes.

Any military and geopolitical planner will be looking at what happens after the potential collapse and trying to figure out if it’s actually worth it.

Twenty-eight health workers in Lebanon have been killed in the last 24 hours, the World Health Organization (WHO) reports.

    ^Obviously intentional

The greatest load of bollox that comes from Israel is human shields. In what sense are they shields when they blow them up regardless, it literally makes zero difference to them. Privately they probably count it as a bonus.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,534 ✭✭✭✭kowloon

This really is turning into a groupfuck situation. Is Netanyahu trying to pull the US into this? If the US backed off and refused to back Israel if there were any further escalations would it calm things down? Would Iran consider the matter closed at that stage? Would Hezbollah go straight back to lobbing rockets randomly into Israel? (I suspect they would)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,779 ✭✭✭✭TheValeyard

Russia is ordering it's citizens to leave Israel.

Could be close to one million of them.

The Mad Man of Moscow must feel this is far from over.

All eyes on Kursk. Slava Ukraini.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,199 ✭✭✭thatsdaft

It was a net positive for most of countries that were part of USSR or colonised and vassalised by USSR

We have a war going on for three years precisely because 40 million people don’t want to be dragged back to that bullshit

Maybe not a positive for Russians themselves but they decided they wanted to remain as serfs to criminals and got their wishes now, despite that millions others voted with their feet and left

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,131 ✭✭✭.Donegal.

If they go back to Russia then go on to take stolen homes in eastern Ukraine that’s bad. If they go to the US they can live bid on a stolen home in the West Bank. That’s good apparently.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,300 ✭✭✭combat14

biden casually lets slip he was discussing hitting iranian oil facilities - worth thinking about it anyway ....

some sort of empire strikes back in the pipe line

"Oil markets are being too complacent given the risk of major supply disruptions in the Middle East, analysts told CNBC on Thursday, with one warning that crude futures could rally to more than $200 a barrel."

looks like we all suffer if that happens

And now here we are today. They aren’t alone either, other eastern block countries have the same issues just not at the same level.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,199 ✭✭✭thatsdaft

Here we are today Russia trying to rebuild their empire and threatening anyone who opposes them with nuclear weapons

Which goes back to my point you keep arguing against for some bizarre reason

You are worried a hypothetical scenario which could be planned for and managed (and last time it happened was a net positive)

I am worried about actual events where terrible lessons and precedent is being set by Russian neo nazi regime bringing the whole world closer to WW3

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,700 ✭✭✭✭osarusan

8 million former Soviet bloc migrants wanted to enter Russia in the two years leading up to the publication of this 2020 study.

    https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC7552588/

By September 2018, the number of labour migrants who indicated the purpose of their entry as “work for hire” reached 3.87 million people and of whom 83% were citizens of the former Soviet Union countries (in August 2017, 4.22 million people indicated their purpose of entry as “work for hire” and 96% of them were citizens of the former Soviet Union countries)
