Newcomers are not welcome to biker.ie. I have tried contacting several times over the year, only to realise the owner of the site just does not want new members—member growth is in single digits annually, and is controlled by the admin. There is no open way to join. I think that that approach is wrong.

And that is before you stumble on questionable posts, homophobic remarks, or insecure/juvenile jokes which clearly amuse some. Pity, as there is some good and helpful content there, but no way to be a constructive part of it. But also pity for biker.ie as there is also a lot of misinformation there that could have been easily corrected. Shame that a good domain name misleads and wastes.

You will find a few threads here about it, just scroll a bit down...

Their circle of jerk is complete. It's just awkward introducing a new set of unfamiliar hands :P

Sorry to dig up an old thread. Biker.ie has been down all week.

Looks like it has been finally wound up, shame because it was

a great site at one stage (a long time ago).

Saw that it's been off. Was a great site for chat and info but Facebook groups and the likes have taken a lot of traffic

My gaud, it has come full circle. Remember the bannings here years ago if biker.ie was even mentioned or linked from a thread.

I never bothered getting involved in any of the Fakebook groups.

Found they were full of idiots who loved themselves and posting pics

of themselves posing who in reality wouldn't ride a bicycle properly.

All the gear and no idea and plenty of money.

I thought it was dead years ago. Chopper was an ass and banned me for silly reasons, but I still wish her well in her new life, I genuinely hope she's happy.

Yep, was a brilliant site once upon a time which came to and end for me a good while ago.

Probably was part of the clic for sure, my avitar was a source of great fun for most, though not very NSFW lol, was even threatened with being made a mod at one stage lol, all you really had to do to belong was have a sense of humor, you'd be viciously poked to see how you reacted and thn dealt with accordingly, right or wrong I made some great 'real-life' friends through it, especially around Trim lol, even caught up with some long lost brothers and sisters on there.

I drifted out due to life, eventually didn't really know any of the regulars bar a few, Chop was and is a legend, a friend to me and mine when one was needed - not too many 'warriors' can really say that.

Became rubbish years ago unfortunately the racists and knob ends took over and ruined it.

Surely you're not in favour of censorship ? if they want to keep their forum free from over sensitive people then what's the problem ? you got super modded super censored boards.ie here if you like censorship so you can be protected from stuff that offends you.

Surely you can take being offended ?

This is why I love CB radio, I can talk all night to people about anything and not fear being censored or posts deleted like what happens here. And r/ireland on Reddit is a pure joke altogether with over sensitive snow flakes !

I also hold an amateur radio license and love talking to people all over the world about anything.

People can offend me all they want, I'm a big boy, I don't snitch out people to the mods !

    Censorship is wrong !

Great to see she decided to get the op and fully transition after all these years. Being true to yourself is important.

It use to be a good site. It had a decent buy and sell section, plus there was a few mechanics on there that would give good advice too. I just got tired of being banned left and right for ridiculous reasons. There was another Irish motorcycle forum for a while, I can't remember the name though.

Ibf / Irish Biker Forum which fell by the wayside a few years ago as well.

One extreme to the other, IBF one of the dullest forums around at the time.

Chalk and cheese alright! Not to everyone's taste but biker.ie allowed for a bit of craic!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,209 ✭✭✭GavPJ

IBF was the equivalent of The Dull Men's Club on fakebook.

You had to go there, was tempted but held back, accurate ;)

Bought my first "big" bike through biker.ie actually!

As a forum though, in its heyday, it was just too fast-paced for me and a bit cliquey. I preferred Irish Biker Forum and made life long friends through it but it definitely was a different sort of "atmosphere" to biker.ie.

Younger people don't bother with forums anymore, which is a shame I think because they contain so much knowledge!

I'm back on the bike after a few years and tried to log in to see about any group spins.......account was removed. I had well over 5k posts and countless build threads!!!! Shame.

Anywhere I can see group spins being organised?

There is very little posted there these days. Most are likely organised on WhatsApp or Facebook.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,430 ✭✭✭bladespin

Where you based? Most local ride outs/meets are through FB groups and the like as GBX said, North Dublin Bikers, Meath spins etc. (my local stuff).
