Red Dot on tyres

Hello, I got tyres on back of car recently, and they are making noise.
So went back and they ballanced them, and they are probably worse.
But notice a red dot on the tyres, and google suggests these should be lined up with the valve, which they are not.

Anybody any experience of this?

I always thought the red dot was opposite the valve and yellow at the valve, in practice I don't think I've ever seen it in person (even on brand new cars)

Here is an example from a new Hyundai I pulled from donedeal. The red dot is the highest point of the tyre and the yellow spot is the lowest point of the alloy, making the combination more round. The tyre is then balanced using wheel weights. This prevents the high point of the tyre and alloy aligning in the same spot which would cause an slightly egg shaped wheel which would hop at speed and no amount of wheel weights would correct. The method of putting the lightest part of the tyre at the valve or high point opposite is incorrect as you could end up with an assembly which isnt round. As seen in the picture the red dot isn't directly opposite the valve.

Even if they were out of balance they wont make noise because of it. What brand are the tyres? Cheaper tyres can sound like a wheel bearing is gone.

Thanks, yes, that's what google says, except there is no yellow dot on the tyre, so it says to line up with valve.

There Nexen Nblue, middle of the road for a run-around second car, handle ok and ok in rain.
Got 2 on the front with no problem, but no red dot. It's like a low rumble, hard to explain.

They're Nexen Nblue, middle of the road for a run-around second car, handle ok and ok in rain.
Got 2 on the front with no problem, but no red dot. It's like a low rumble, hard to explain.

That sounds a lot like tyre roar to me, they may just be noisy tyres

No don't think so, because I've the same on the front with no problem, and one is worse than the other on the back, so think its something to do with the red dots. Somebody must have seen it before.

It is absolutely definitely nothing to with the red dots or the tyre balance. That can't cause noise. The front and rear are very different, more weight on the front and more insulation through the dash etc compared to the echoey rear.

Try swap the front wheels to the rear?

If the noise only came after those tyres were fitted would be pointing to tyres.

Also check tyres to make sure you cant read inside on the outer side of tyre and are they directional with arrow facing direction of rotation.
