FTA Tuning Guide - Oct 2024

    The following channels are available via satellite FTA (Free To Air), meaning they can all be picked up with ANY satellite receiver. Just tune in with the details in the table and enjoy! For a guide on how to tune in via a Sky branded receiver, see below the table. For other manufacturers, please consult the user guide on how to tune in new channels.

    Remember, all channels listed below are fully FTA which means NO blocked programmes, sporting events or films! A fair few are in HD also!

    SKY / SKY+ STANDARD DEFINITION

    To add new channels to your "Other Channels" section on your standard definition Sky or Sky+ Digibox then simply do the following....

    · Press the "SERVICES" button (near the top of the remote).

    · Highlight "SYSTEM SET-UP", press "SELECT" and then scroll down to "ADD CHANNELS" and press "SELECT".

    · In the appropriate fields enter the information required. To move through the fields simply press the "UP ARROW" and "DOWN ARROW" keys.

    · In the FREQUENCY field enter the 5 digit code, (it starts with either 10, 11 or 12 in the table above). Don't worry about the full stop in the frequencies, you do not have to enter them on Sky set-top boxes.

    · The next three fields are toggle fields, i.e. you use the "LEFT ARROW" and "RIGHT ARROW" keys to change the values.

    Polarisation - either H or V

    Symbol Rate - either 22000 or 27500

    FEC - either 2/3, 5/6 or 7/8

    · Once you have entered all the required information, scroll down to "FIND CHANNEL" and press "SELECT" to scan for the channels and in a few moments it should pop up, along with other channels on the same frequency.

    · Use the "YELLOW" button to place a tick beside each channel you find and wish to store and when you've finished ticking press "SELECT". These channels will now be stored in your "OTHER CHANNELS" menu. (Press "SERVICES" then highlight the "OTHER CHANNELS" option and press "SELECT").

    SKY+ HD

    To add new channels to your "Other Channels" section on your Sky+HD Digibox then simply do the following....

    · Press the "SERVICES" button on your remote and then keep pressing the "LEFT ARROW" until you see "OPTIONS" highlighted.

    · Now press the "DOWN ARROW" on your remote and on the middle menu keep pressing the "LEFT ARROW" until you see "ADD CHANNELS" highlighted.

    · Now, press the "DOWN ARROW" again and a few boxes will show up at the bottom which you have to enter details into.

    · In the appropriate fields enter the information required. To move through the fields simply press the "UP ARROW" and "DOWN ARROW" keys.

    · In the FREQUENCY field enter the 5 digit code, (it starts with either 10, 11 or 12 in the table above). Don't worry about the full stop in the frequencies, you do not have to enter them on Sky set-top boxes.

These channels will now be stored in your "OTHER CHANNELS" menu. To get to the list of other channels, press "SERVICES" then press the "DOWN ARROW" then keep pressing the "RIGHT ARROW" until you see the "OTHER CHANNELS" option highlighted, then press "DOWN ARROW" again. Highlight the channel you wish to view, then press "SELECT" to preview and "SELECT" again to make it full screen.

    SKY Q

    · Press the "HOME" button on the remote

    · Scroll down to “SETTINGS”

    · In the settings menu, choose “MANUAL TUNING”

    · Insert your PIN if prompted

    · Select “ADD A CHANNEL”

    · Input the frequency details for the channel you want as per the table above

    · Select “FIND CHANNELS”

    · A list will appear after a few moments, choose the channel(s) you would like to save – a tick should appear beside them

    · Select “SAVE CHANNELS”

    · To view the channels you have just tuned in, go back to the “SETTINGS > MANUAL TUNING” menu and choose the channel you want to watch.

    SET-TOP BOXES BY OTHER MANUFACTURERS

    There are many non-Sky branded FTA satellite receivers available out there, you will have to consult your user manual for how to scan for new channels as each box has different menu systems and options.

    I notice that now a lot of similar channels are grouped together on the same transponder .Makes it was easier to build a list from scratch using individual transponder scans rather than a full scan and then editing the channels into order.

    I have to retune it every evening on Other Channels on my Sky box using the tuning details above. Same with UTV & ItvBe and usually ITV4. It seems to lose those channels every day. Also, the EPG guide states “Searching for listings” instead of the current programme.

    I know ITV Be and ITV 4 moved this morning.Kingofsat states that ITV 2 hasn't moved. Just no signal..

    ITV 2 HD moved to 11386 on 18 September. It would have also continued on 11052 for some time after that. I think it is called Dual Illumination. But 11052 is empty now, even though it is still putting out a blank carrier. Whenever that is switched off, maybe boxes will start to ignore it. But a study of the instructions given above on how to tune the three different versions of Sky might be in order?

    Lyngsat and similar resources can be used in conjunction with the FTA Tuning Guide to get other channel details. Like regional variants of BBC and ITV. And to keep up with channel changes which may appear there before they make it on to the Guide.

    Big thanks to the good folk who posted the transponder info above. UTV & ITV4 HD gone today and the guide above is the only one I could find that was correct 👍

    All these changes are becoming a pain. My box ain't finding them with an automatic scan. They all have to be searched for manually lately.

    Christ can they do nothing right.

    Websites like KoS are only as good as the people who submit the channel change info and update the website, there can be a lag.

    UTV and ITV 4 have been transmitting on their new frequency since Aug iirc, I remember tuning them in at the time. Still no n&n programme info though.

    Clicking on the + sign beside the date on KOS, gives a change log for that channel going back over the years. Last changes for UTV and ITV 4 were 18 August, and of course it is only as good as the information that is sent in.

    This thread has been left open so it can be used as a sort of info dump of changes to new FTA channels but also contain a handy quick guide to the more popular channels. It may get a different name for the next update which may happen monthly or quarterly so it is as up to date as can be. I can use any changes posted here and any that I observe myself to keep the table in the OP as up to date as possible.

    PBS 11.344 V seems to have changed FEC to 2/3 and DVB S2. Anyone else confirm this ?

    Yes, That's TV channels also affected on same transponder. The amount of changes of late on 28E is bloody annoying.

    Yes the changes are annoying, I need to retune my TV as it has a single channel list made up of DTT/Astra 1 and Astra 2 channels, but need to wait until these DVB to DVBS2 changes complete, and they've been happening for months now!

    All my channels messed up. Tried a rescan but nothing. Did manual scan and I've 7/800 channels now, lots of them encrypted. Channel numbers all over the place. I've lost more4 & +1, CNN and not sure what other channel. Its a bloody mess.

    Yes some Channel 4 and ITV channels are still doing musical chairs. I was waiting until they had finished before submitting a new update but Channel 4 seem to want to drag it out as long as possible.

    I have lost ITV +1, +2 and +3 . I rescanned on 10891 2200 5l6 H and got nothing.

    I did a bit of research and lyngsat listed an alternative as a DVB-S 11343 27500 V 2/3. That did not work.

    I tried DVB-S2 11343 27500 V 9/10 and got them.

    That's TV, PBS, True Crime, Legend and others also on this frequency now.

    Yes, the ITV +1 services have moved to a different transponder and are not with the ITV transponders any more. Some broadcasters are making it easier by having all their channels grouped together, and now ITV are spreading theirs out. You can't win!

    They have always been like that. They need to be on multiple transponders for all the variations. Just like the BBC.

    It's not hard to find them on Lyngsat, if you need to see where they are for your list. Ctrl and F together on a PC keyboard, and type ITV into the Search box. Also UTV and STV. Sorry if that is something obvious for you.

    Not so sure about that point about being on different transponders like BBC. ITV 4+1 is no longer on DVB S 10891 22000, and is on DVB S2 11343 27500 with all the other +1's. It was not on this Freq last night, but was on 10891. All ITV+1 are now on 11343. Nothing on 10891 for me.

    Even your link to Lyngsat is wrong now. And last night it was wrong too for ITV +1,+2 and +3.

    What is obvious is that changes are happening all the time

    10891 is reported as losing most of the channels on 04/05/06 November. Like you say it is out of date for the 7th, being empty now. Lyngsat and the other sites depend on contributors to keep them up to date. Rick's tuning guide will equally go out of date. But in general the advice to consult Lyngsat and similar sources stands for him to keep it up to date.

    There are about 36 different ITV's including STV and UTV. They couldn't all be on one transponder.

    KingOfSat is up to date for 10891 on the 7th. Probably the other transponders as well, but I did not check.

    10891 is now up to date on Lyngsat, empty transponder.

    Recently removed: 241107: STV East. 241107: STV North. 241107: ITV 4 +1.

    Channel 4: next stage of DVB-S2 migration

    06/11/2024 – E4 Extra, 4seven and the last remaining Channel 4+1 regions are migrating to DVB-S2 pm 10936V, with a short dual illumination before 10714 H is cleared.

    The dual illumination on 10714 H and 10936 V has happpened. But anyone depending on 10714 H will lose their channels soon. Also 11127 V is now empty, but the carrier signal has not been switched off yet.

    "25 Nov. An update was issued to Freesat boxes on Monday morning. Sky boxes will be updated later. The last remaining Channel 4 SD feed on 11127V will be pulled from Sky satellite on Thursday (28th)."

    I will be making an updated thread for Dec 2024 in the coming week to cover changes made over the past few weeks. I think the majority, if not all of the DVB-S2 musical chairs has finished.
