Anybody remember ‘The Slate’ magazine?

A great magazine. Still have a few of them knocking around somewhere.

Very funny. From memory they were free to be picked up in shops around Dublin?

I cannot remember the content of the article. But going by the cover. Not a great look tbh.

Who remembers Fitz? Gawdawful Irish Viz clone that was around for about a year 1995/96.

I still have a few of them in the house. Used to pick up a copy in Tower Records then go for a pint to read it. Some very funny stuff in them. Must have a look through them some day. 'Dublin's Top 10 Drugs' was another cover story I remember vividly.

Actually ran for 13 years up until the late 80s. Really horrendous stuff. To make it even worse, it turns out the artist himself had been abusing his own daughter.

I remember a ‘rugger buggers’ issue with a Ross O’Carroll Kelly type on the cover being very funny and another on modified car scene ‘one man, his moth and his motor’ IIRC.
A regular was a column from an ‘excitable culchie’ they sent on a J1 and his various exploits with using decent coke and loose women with fake boobs

From my understandably hazy memories from back then all of the toilet attendants were African. I don't think it's racist if it's factuually correct. Anyway all this pc crap only came in later. Those were the good old days when you could state facts clearly and there was freedom of speech unlike the current stasi era that we have created.

As a side note, the slate was genuinely very funny so you can forgive it pushing things a bit. As someone in University at the time, it really nailed the scene around Dublin's nightlife and some of the characters were spot on. You couldn't release anything as good these days unfortunately.

I enjoyed Slate at the time, even bought the annual/best bits thing they published to make some money out of it. But looking back at it now, it was all a bit naff and try-hard. Still, more entertaining than the painfully woke cultural media we have now

If I recall they had a review of a gig by trance DJ Paul van Dyk that had just two words: "A Cnut"
