I dont think I could hate anything more that the Vodafone pig ads we got blasted with this year though, her stupid face and the way they played them in every ad break for months.

Good point to bring up. What was the worst/most hated ad this year?

Chicago Town pizza advert was ridiculous, like a parody, chance to get pizza shaped glasses you say?

Taking the baton from them is the Apache pizza advert for its app. Sh*te.

Oh well, give me an easy life and a peaceful death.

Supervalu, Lidl & Tesco deserve a slap for the sentimental rubbish they have produced, "let's make viewers feel as ****ty as possible about dead family members and have them buy a selection box to fill the void". **** right off.

Those voyage prive ads sound pretty sleazy, mainly because of the music, some kind of adult boat ride, it's like 80's porn, not that I watch that crap, but I just always felt 80's synths sounded a bit sleazy.

I can't stand the ads for Park, purely because of that nonsensical backing track of some moron just saying, "This is Santa Claus!"

Most hated ads. good lord where do i begin.

Tescos letter writing, actually didn't shop there because the ads were puke inducing.

Supervalu and Lidl mainly because of the music in the ads, slow acoustic horrible versions they were.

Mentioned already, "My name is Hannah WAHHHH"

German car ads are always terrible but that Klopp fella over laughing at bad jokes, a very german thing.

Meteor merry hintmas mostly beacuse of typical sourpuss Irish mother in it.

Last but not least Headintheballheadintheball, we are Oirish, why they didn't just use Wolfe Tones or something englsih hating to drive home the Oirish sentiment

SSE ad is back. Cut the soppy music, you lot are a utility company out to make maximum profit from consumers, not a bunch of do gooders.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,351 ✭✭✭✭Harry Angstrom

Current ad for Bank Of Ireland, which I'm assuming is their College Green branch. Trying to put across a caring, sharing, "olde worlde" style of banking which we all know is a load of bollocks these days. In the real world, anybody who even tries to join a queue to see a bank teller is immediately diverted to a machine, and resistance is obviously futile.

Not in my experience, wallet went missing and had to cancel my bank card. So in order to get my money out until my replacement card turned up, I had to use the teller.

    This too shall pass.

Well, unless they've introduced voice or fingerprint recognition machines in their branches, they didn't have much option but to serve you.

Lazy rehash of their ad from years ago when the bottle was white and did somewhat resemble a rocket. Now the ad is just stupid.

The original Duster came out in the mid 80s, so it's just a revival of that.

Much as I agree it's a bit of a silly name, I reckon it's much more memorable than something like D-100

Has anyone seen the 10 second ads lately featuring a rather bleek looking person saying "I want to get cancer"?

Yesterday we all looked at each other to see if we had heard the same thing then rewinded it to be sure.

By far the most unusual advertisement I've came across, and I don't even know what the message was.

Yep, though I have a thick skin I thought it was amazingly insensitive and bound to cause great upset to some people. I often have tv on in the background so was not sure I heard it right.

    But it was not misheard

no doubt some patronising cringeworthy "shock tactic" crap saying "well if you smoke you obviously want to get cancer". Sure why else would you continue smoking what is medically recognised as the most addictive substance known to medical science, including heroin, crack cocaine and methamphetamine (not saying the hardest addiction to kick but regarded as the most addicitve)

Whoever is responsible I would like to see what dictionary they have to see the meaning given for the word "want"

From the domain WHOIS its a person not company who registered it.

    domain: getcancer.ie
    descr: Alan Johnson
    descr: Discretionary Applicant
    descr: Discretionary Name

I'm guessing the mean 'get cancer' as in 'beat cancer' or 'harm cancer'.

Haven't seen the ad on tv but sure its going for viral so we'll see what it is soon.

I thought the same, but they certainly do not have that tone of voice in the ads. I saw another different one just a few mins ago and it again did not have that tone, more a "defeated" older man in his car saying it. Another one just this second, a woman drinking a cup of tea, no doubt viral etc but still potentially very upsetting. I cannot see any possible outcome where I will think "oh, well that explains it, that's all grand so" -damage is done.

not sure what you mean, do you mean get as in contract cancer or fight against cancer.

At first glance it seems tthey are bizarrely asking "do you want to contract the disease cancer", which of course is a ludicrous question. I still think it would cause huge upset to some people, who have cancer or not. They obviously think they are very smart, but are actually incredibly inconsiderate scumbags.

I am using chromium and do not see that. If I enter an email I get
We’ll be in touch soon about how together we can get cancer in 2017. Now tell the world.

which confirms they want to "fight" cancer, without any regard for people's feelings

What exactly are they trying to do here? Because between the adverts and news paper adverts it's rather cruelly being advertised and a lot of folks could take it up the wrong way & upset a lot of folks who have the disease and upset family members who have lost loved ones

The Vodafone team probably patting themselves on the back for this one. It is probably the worst advert that i have ever seen, so much so that i found out this thread existed.
