Technically always been running, not sure how they have adjusted though

I ordered 4k firestick off Eirtech for 60 euro delivered recently. US plug came with it. I'm happy with it.

Looks like they are sold out or messing Irish customers around your £24.50 is the full UK price + VAT.

So they aren't sold out if you change to a UK address it will go through at the £7.99 deal price.

Looks like another deal that isn't available to Ireland - maybe Amazon charge the seller to much for delivery to Ireland to make it worth their while selling to here.

They seem to have amended this now!

Irish price after £10 voucher applied is £11.31stg, but jumps to £13.57stg when a UK address is selected. :)

Obviously, the original deal is over & a new £10 voucher deal is in place.

I've bought a few Amazon bargains of late, but has anyone noticed how bad An Post have become in sorting items? I've had 4 misdirected packages out of 10 that have ended up in an incorrect sorting office in the last month alone.
"Your post has been sent to the wrong delivery office. We will still get it to you."

40% failure rate... Which means I get it 2 or 3 days later. One didn't even have any tracking from An Post - the Amazon label was ripped off and a hand written one in its place. Of the others they eventually turned up but very frustrating. One just got mis-sorted this morning... I'm starting to think their own delivery logistics can't come quick enough for us outside of Dublin....

Really, Thats interesting. Might set up an account.
Does it matter what the price point of the item is, can it be say £100? or does it have to be under the £22 limit?

It really doesn’t matter as you will be charged Irish VAT (on top of the UK VAT) by address pal regardless.

In short, no. In fact my stuff is often delivered before Amazon are aware it's out for delivery.

If its with An Post when that happens they don't get paid :D

The postman should scan the mail when he picks it up in the morning and it shows in the Amazon tracking. If its not scanned at that point An Post don't get paid.

Wake me up when it's all over.

Yeah, I think you're just unfortunate. I've nothing but the highest praise for An Post. I get lots of parcels from Amazon and they've been on time 100% of the time. My heart sinks when I see a courier name as the delivery agent although that's rare now, I think even Amazon got fed up with complaints about the likes of Hermes and Yodel.

AnPost has been very good with my Amazon parcels over the years. It is only once they messed up and deliver my parcels to wrong address. But after phoning there, the issue was resolved - parcels were retrieved and brought back.

There was a significant drop of speed last year - be it because of COVID and Brexit, but things since got back to normal. I get notification that my my parcel gets sorted in Port Laoise - typically it gets delivered two days later.

I much more prefer AnPost than any other courier but DPD.

They get paid. My postman just arrives early and later Amazon tell me it's out for delivery, then delivered.

Not what my postman told me last week.

He said they keep getting told if its not scanned when they take it An Post don't get paid. He said there have been a few warnings recently because someone working out of his depot doesn't always bother.

How does this work? Do they open the parcel and assess or is it say a declaration sheet sent with parcel ?

Does me getting something sent to an relation in England costing 100 quid English VAT included and then her forwarding it on to me as a gift- will this get pulled for Irish VAT as well? or are gifts exempt?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,598 ✭✭✭The Continental Op

    So my postman is lying?

What does your postman have to do with it?

I usually get my deliveries before Amazon alerts me that they're out for delivery. Because I'm early on the route. This would suggest to a person of average intelligence that Amazon either doesn't receive "out for delivery" information in real time, or, more likely, that they don't want to send alerts to customers at 6.45am.

I know they've been scanned because, Sherlock, Amazon tells me they've been delivered.

If you have any more questions ask your postman or Amazon.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 143 ✭✭112143

I've found Amazon manages to get things to me quicker than some Irish businesses.
One order was delayed for a day and I received a email from Amazon telling me that I'd get the item for free if I didn't get it in the following two days, unfortunately it arrived the next day.
I never knew they offered money back.

    Yes, Revenue can open parcels.

Just did my daily scan of Hotukdeals. https://www.hotukdeals.com/hot

Appears there are lots of Apple phones and iPads reduced.

Will attract Irish import charges, but thought I'd mention it anyway.

No they won't. Amazon are VAT compliant.

Amazon remove the UK VAT and apply the Irish VAT so he’s right that it will attract Irish import charges. It’s just that you pay it upfront to Amazon.

At payment stage the price reduces to £375. £78 of import fees are added. Delivered price is £454.26. Or £7 less of you still have your Amazon credit for the photos app sitting there.

That is not how most people would interpret his comment.

Most would think that there would be ADDITIONAL charges top of the price to be paid (other than the paltry VAT difference).

The charges are estimated by Amazon but if the import fees are more than what Amazon charged you they'll pay the difference. If the charges are less they'll contact you and issue a refund for the difference.
We got €1.78 back on a phone purchased a few weeks ago.

It was but now stuff I was expecting yesterday (Monday) is still stuck in Dublin. It got to Dublin on Monday so expected a delivery today but they are all now "We’re very sorry your delivery is late." When I see that there is a chance some won't arrive at all.

Get onto customer support, you’ll usually get a £5 voucher if you ask for one as a gesture of goodwill for the delay

My parcel got to Dublin at 5pm yesterday, delivered here, Wexford, 9am today.
This is normal, usually get a text from An Post saying it'll be delivered in up to three days but with the exception of the couple of weeks before Christmas, it always comes the next day.

Same here, in Wexford too. Even the rare times that I don’t get a text, it generally arrives next day once it is showing as in Dublin Parcel Hub in my Amazon orders.

Adding to my post yesterday - I'm just Mr Unlucky it seems. Now it's 5 outta 11 items delayed in the last month - another supposed to be delivered today by AnPost is still bouncing around Dublin, even though I got the text yesterday and they always deliver the next day.

It was just Amazon being too optimistic.

They use previous orders history to estimate how much time is needed to deliver a parcel. Unless extremely pricy option is chosen, no courier would give warranty about delivery time. Amazon also says that this is their best guestimate.

Ok but the issue with the 5 items each time has when they are in Dublin with AnPost not Amazon.....
As I said, I even got the text from AnPost yesterday.

Anyhow no need to derail this thread further.

Don't forget that it's a bank holiday in the middle of the week week. So they need to handle 5 days worth of UK imports in 4 days, so I'm sure things will be a little delayed.
