There's usually an exit poll detailing what the biggest issue is for voters; I thought it'd be interesting to see how boards compares. Let me know if I've missed an obvious option

Aren’t the questions in this poll a bit leading? With none of the above option missing

    https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/2024_Irish_general_election

Here are top 4 issues one of which is missing from your poll, with stuff like Climate which I doubt is even in top 10 issues added

    -

The main issues in Ireland's 2024 general election are the cost of living, housing affordability and availabilityimmigration and asylum management, and economic stabilityamid external trade uncertainties, reflecting voter concerns despite the country's strong overall financial health.

The bases aren't covered OP. According to your poll we must have a problem with the government in areas proscribed by you and we can only vote for "change".

Apologies, I meant to include the Economy - the other 3 are covered though

Can't edit the poll now but if your main reason isn't listed, just post what it is

"I have concerns but have no confidence in the opposition"

"I'm satisfied with the current government"

    Housing

I picked housing but as an emigrant, I will not be casting a vote.

Yesterday, I went on Daft.ie and looked up accommodation for a town in Mayo. Cheapest was a flat for €1,300 a month. In the west of Ireland. No idea how that's supposed to be sustainable.

Hope as many people as possible vote though.

    Housing

yup, housing is a mess for everybody, and the disturbing fact is, nobody really knows what to do about it, so its gonna persist into the 30's….

I feel like this is how societies die, by making existence a luxury. Like, where do the next generation of taxpayers come from. We'll need them to pay our pensions when we retire.

Voted housing but that in turn is at least partly influenced by immigration which also needs to be significantly reformed.

High taxes, many stealth taxes, yet extremely poor services in return.

we actually need immigrants to help solve our housing issues, cause you can be damn sure, very few irish, including myself, are heading to building sites anytime soon!

    Cost of Living

There are pressing issues but I will selfishly worry about the cost of living.

The more and more I think about it I feel the Immigration issue is an "It's the norm now. Suck it up". Our population is going to balloon. All parties will be on board and boo hoo if the genreal public disagree with it.

    Immigration

Immigration- to enforce the actual rules that McEntee always mentions when questioned on the issue. Any increase in population puts pressure on all public services especially health, housing, education, justice, social welfare, transport, infrastructure etc.

    Immigration

Without a serious crackdown on immigration we are never going to solve any of the other options presented. Our current infrastructure (all systems from Health to Housing, Education to Environment, Social Welfare etc…) is not designed to cater for 4.5m people, let alone the almost ~5.5m we have. We cannot and should not be ingesting more people into a system that is utterly creaking at the seams.

    Nothing specific, just want change

I think "just liked / was impressed by the candidate" is usually an option in polls like these, and scores higher than you'd imagine

    Poll results here

    https://www.rte.ie/news/election-24/2024/1130/1483888-election-age-gender/

    Housing/homelessness 28% (22%)

    Cost of living 19% (16%)

    Health 17% (10%)

Economic stability 9% (ommited in error)

    Immigration 6% (29%)

    Climate 4% (10%)

    Crime 2%

    Local transport and roads 2%

    Childcare 2%

Value for money in public spending 1%

So the electorate is significantly less concerned about immigration & climate than boardsies and a good bit more concerned about housing & health
